What is this?

Iowa Administrative Code 12.2(256) has defined the ”At-risk student” as any identified student who needs additional support and who is not meeting or not expected to meet the established goals of the educational program (academic, personal/social, career/vocational). At-risk students, other than students with disabilities, include but are not limited to students in the following groups: homeless children and youth, dropouts, returning dropouts, and potential dropouts.

Each school district shall include in its comprehensive school improvement plan specific provisions for meeting the needs of at-risk students, including identification procedures and criteria, appropriate educational strategies and a process to determine the effectiveness of programs and strategies.

Other Information

There is no specific program called “At Risk.” Instead it is a multitude of strategies and programs designed to meet the individual needs of students identified as being At Risk.
