At Risk

Director info: Jan Collinson, Director of Special Programs

What is this?

Iowa Administrative Code 12.2(256) has defined the  ”At-risk student” as any identified student who needs additional support and who is not meeting or not expected to meet the established goals of the educational program (academic, personal/social, career/vocational). At-risk students, other than students with disabilities, include but are not limited to students in the following groups: homeless children and youth, dropouts, returning dropouts, and potential dropouts.

Each school district shall include in its comprehensive school improvement plan specific provisions for meeting the needs of at-risk students, including identification procedures and criteria, appropriate educational strategies and a process to determine effectiveness of programs and strategies.

Forms

Each person, program and activity funded through At Risk is required to complete the attached forms to assure the provisions listed above are met.

Other info

There is no specific program called ”˜At Risk.’ Instead it is a multitude of strategies and programs designed to meet the individual needs of students identified as being At Risk.
