A Message from Superintendent Riibe: Regarding Weather Make Up Days

I wanted to provide staff and parents with information regarding snow make-up days as quickly as possible. I appreciate the patience and understanding of the staff with the number of school interruptions this month. I know it creates difficulty in maintaining classroom continuity. I have shared this plan with MEA to ensure fulfillment of the contract. I think it meets the needs of students and teachers. To this date, there have been seven canceled school days. Late starts and early outs are not part of the equation.

The plan is to make up four student days (May 31, June 3, 4, 5). Teacher’s last day will be June 6, 2019. Teachers would have three days to make up to complete the contract. Teachers can make up those days between the end of the year and August 9th. In addition, teachers may use non-contract days during the year for this purpose. Teachers could work independently or with others on special projects. Staff will be asked to have building principals approve the days selected. Teachers needing to pack rooms or re-locate could use those days for that purpose. Para-educators will be able to make up the three non-student days at the end of the year.

Jerry Riibe,
Superintendent
