** Daily News & Information **

  • All Muscatine Community School Buildings will be following Summer Hours starting
    June 10 – July 26:  Monday through Thursday, 8am-4pm.  Closed Fridays.
  • Finals Schedule June 3-5:  Finals Schedule
  • Student’s last day is June 5 with a 2-hour early out.  Buses will pick students up at 1:30 pm.
  • Summer Camp Information: See Summer Camps section below.
  • FRESHMAN-JUNIORS: All library books and materials should be returned ASAP! Fines will be assessed for unreturned materials – and the fines will show up when parents register students for classes in the fall.
  • The next session of Driver’s Ed will take place June 10-29 at MHS in Room 11-022/11-024. Please bring pencil/pen to class. Driving lessons take place after class and Fri & Sat mornings.   • Attendance During Finals Week: Attendance is required for all students for the remainder of the school year. Students need to attend, even if their finals or projects are completed.
  • Yearbooks for sale at the Attendance Center — only 10 left! Cost is $56.
  • Library Cafe and Commons seating will be closed starting June 3rd for the rest of the school year. Seating will be available in the Cafeteria and outside picnic table area.
  • New Silver Cord Opportunity: See Silver Cord section below.
  • Students taking AP Chemistry next year,  if you have not picked up your summer assignment, please stop in Mrs. Pautz’s room 12-006 this week or next week.
  • Seniors: Final Transcript forms are available at the Attendance Center or in Student Services.
  • Seniors: If you didn’t pick up your envelope with final grades, diploma and other important information after graduation, you can pick it up in Student Services.

  • If you are taking AP Human Geography next year, pick up your summer assignment in Ms. Hansen’s room (11-024).
  • Students taking Human Anatomy and Physiology or AP Environmental Science during the 2019-2020 school year need to stop by Room 12-004 in the Science wing and see or email Mr. Johnson before the end of the school year.
  • Cheer Tryouts: Anyone interested in trying out for Cheer next year, please stop in the AD Office or the Attendance Center to pick up a tryout packet.
  • MHS Boy’s Soccer will be participating in Buffalo Wild Wings “Home Team Advantage” fundraising program through June 20th. All you need to do is simply mention “TEAM M” to your server and 10% of your bill will go the MHS Boys’ Soccer program. This applies for take out orders as well!  BWW Home Team Advantage Flyer
  • Orientation for 2019/2020 Concurrent Students at MHS
    • If you requested to take a concurrent college class offered at MHS, please plan to attend an orientation. Orientation sessions will be held during the day of Wednesday, May 29th. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
    • Orientations will be held in the MHS Commons at 8:30am, 10:00am, 4:00pm and 5:00pm.
      In order to complete the registration for this class you must have an active college application on file with Muscatine Community College, one of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges. www.eicc.edu/apply

  • MuscaBus offers free route bus rides to students K-12, including graduating seniors, for the summer. This goes from June 5 to August 22. Our service runs 6:30am to 5:00pm M-F and 8:30 to 4:00 on Saturday.
  • Summer Food Service Program:  Summer Food Service Information
  • Seniors who took college classes in high school and are requesting your Muscatine/Eastern Iowa Community College transcript get sent to another institution.
    Go to: www.eicc.edu/transcriptrequest
    Transcripts are ordered online through our transcript ordering center; National Student Clearinghouse. When ordering:

    • You will need to know your student college ID#.
      If you do not know your ID#, please email MCC rep Anabelia at acalderon-flores@eicc.edu or call her at 563-288-6035.
    • If you are currently in a concurrent class, make sure to select to have your transcript sent “after grades are posted”
    • Lastly, to complete the ordering process you will need a debit or credit card.
  • Summer Employment Opportunity: Corn Detasseling – Must be at least 14 years old by June 18, 2019. Workers will need to attend a safety meeting June 18th from 5:45-8:00 pm at MCC. Applications are available in the Student Services Office.
  • Driver Ed information can be obtained from the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency (MBAEA) website – https://www.mbaea.org/en/student_programs/driver_education/

** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • Need silver cord hours over the summer? Summer STEAM camp at Jefferson elementary is looking for MHS students to help out in our classes. The focus of camp is math, art, science and fitness. You can choose the days and pick AM or PM time slots between June 17 and July 26. To sign up to volunteer just go to the link below.   • The 13, 14, 15 year old HNI city league team is looking a for a coach. They are looking for someone to coach them through their last four games. Their season will end on 6/14. If you are interested in helping out please call 263-0449 to speak with Ronnie Swailes.
  • Muscatine 2nd Saturday is a non-profit organization under the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine, and we are looking for volunteers. Volunteers would help with anything from setting up or tearing down barricades, to supervising family friendly activities – for example, simple rock decorating, sidewalk chalk drawing, & some light sport activities at times (all materials are provided). We will also be partnering with Special Olympics, Big Brothers Big Sisters for their “Over the Edge” fundraiser, as well as other local charities and businesses. Officially, Second Saturday is a once a month arts and music street fest to be held on 2nd Street from Cedar to Iowa and on Iowa from Mississippi Drive to 3rd Street the second Saturday of every month from May to October.   • The Muscatine Art Center is hosting an Ice Cream Social on Sunday, June 30th from 1-5pm. Volunteers are needed to help run games, work in the art studio and help with various crafts and activities. For more information contact Katy Loos @ 563-263-8282.
  • Muscatine County Extension Day Camp Volunteers Needed: will assist a group of 3 – 5 youth during various day camps. May assist the instructor with setting up the camp or putting supplies away, plus other duties as needed with camps. Orientation will be held in late May of 2019 and at that time the volunteers will have the opportunity to pick which days camps that they would like to assist at throughout the summer.   • Muscatine Heart Study located in the old Muscatine Hotel is looking for students to earn silver cord hours by helping them with their office work.  Hours are flexible as they are open 10am-8pm Monday-Thursday. Contact 264-3886 for more information or to set up a time to work.

  • 2019 Muscatine Summer Wrestling Camp will be held on August 1-2 from 8am-12pm both days in the MHS wrestling room for grades 2-8. All abilities welcome and the cost is $50 before July 15 or $65 after July 15. 2019

  • St. Ambrose Summer Camps. From engineering to piano, high schoolers can find something great to get them excited about learning! Find out more or register by going to www.sau.edu/summer!
    • PIANO CAMP: June 24-28, grades 9-12
      Students will participate in daily lessons, group seminar, theory/composition class, piano ensemble call, and supervised practices. On the last day, campers will present a concert.  Cost: $225 – Time: 5 days
    • ENGINEERING BOOT CAMP: June 26-28, grades 9-12
      Students will complete hands-on projects to develop skills in team working, problem solving, and communication.
      Cost: $200 – Time: 3 days, 2 overnights
    • FASCINATING HUMAN BODY CAMP: June 26-27, grades 11-12
      Students will explore the marvels of human body anatomy using cadavers.
      Cost: $75 Time: 2 days, 1 overnight

** Fundraisers **

  • The Muscatine High School Dance Team will be selling Love Your Melon cuffed beanies with our Muskie logo on them. The hats will not only help us to raise money for our team, but they will raise money for the efforts of Love Your Melon. Love Your Melon is an apparel brand dedicated to giving a hat to every child battling cancer and supporting the fight against pediatric cancer. Attached is an order form for the beanies that contains pricing, payment and distribution.
