** Daily News & Information **

  • 2-hr Early Out @ 1:30pm on Wednesday, October 9th.
  • FFA meeting on Oct 15th during Muskie time in rm 13-008E. Sign up in adaptive scheduler under Mr. Paul.
  • Saturday, October 12th and Saturday, October 19th are major events with the campus involving 20 bands and 1700 students each night.  We will be using the parking behind MHS, as well as Cedar St. Lot for equipment.  Please do not park in those areas on Saturday, October 12th, 4p-midnight, and Saturday, October 19th, 8am-5pm.
  • New Silver Cord Opportunities: See Silver Cord section below.
  • Student IDs and for students that had their picture taken on Oct. 9th can be picked up in Student Services. At the time you pick up your new ID you will need to turn in your current Student ID.
  • Pictures: Students that ordered pictures from Sept. 9th can pick them up in Student Services.  Proofs are available in Student Services for anyone that had their picture taken on Sept. 9th.
  • New Scholarships Added: See Scholarship section below. (Nov., Jan., Feb.)
  • Muskies Against Violence will be meeting Wednesday, October 16th in the Commons Area during Muskie Time. If you would like to make a difference by taking a stand against important public health topics such as bullying and substance use come to this meeting and see what it’s all about!” Sign up in Adaptive Scheduler – Muskies Against Violence w/ Heather Duytschaever.
  • October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and violence is a serious public health problem!  So on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16th during your lunch period PAINT your PINKIE NAILS PURPLE and take a stand.  DO NOT let acts of violence be brushed under the rug!  After you get your pinkie nails painted purple, post a pic of you nail on social media and use the hashtags #PaintItPurple, #EndDV, #PurplePinkieAgainstDV.
  • Parent Information Night Scheduled: The Muscatine Police Department and the Muscatine Community School District will hold a Parent Information Night on October 9th at 6:30pm at the Central Middle School Auditorium. This will be a session on school safety–what happens when threats are received, and how you as parents and the community, can help.
  • Yearbook Supplement: Everyone that purchased a yearbook from last school year also gets a supplement that sticks into the back of the book. Spring sports, prom, graduation, and the musical are included in this 16-page supplement. Please stop by the Attendance Center and pick one up to put into your yearbook from last year.
  • CHESS CLUB AMENDMENT: The first Chess Club meeting has been rescheduled to October 16th.  Do you enjoy playing Chess? Don’t know how but want to learn? Join MHS Chess Club! Meetings are on Wednesdays in Room 12-016 during Muskie Time beginning next Wednesday, October 16th. Sign up in adaptive scheduler with Mr. Johnson; if there is no space available email me, and I will adjust and add you.

    • Monday, Oct. 21: 4:00-7:15pm
    • Wed., Oct. 23: 4:00-7:15pm
    • Thursday, Oct. 24: 1:45-3:45pm

  • TONIGHT! Pizza Ranch Fundraiser for Muscatine-Japan Youth Exchange Program on Wed., October 9th, from 5pm-8pm.  Come out and help support the Muscatine-Japan Youth Exchange Program earn money towards plane tickets. Last year, Japanese students visited and stayed with students in Muscatine and this year Muscatine students get to travel to Japan to stay with their Japanese friends. A portion of ALL proceeds including dine-in, delivery, and take-out will be donated to the Muscatine-Japan Youth Exchange Program.  MJYEP Pizza Ranch Fundraiser
  • Due Oct. 18th! Seniors and Parents/Guardians of Seniors: Baby Ads for the yearbook need to be submitted to Ms. Brown by turning in the form, payment, and picture at the Attendance Center, mailed to the school (Attn: Katie Brown), or dropped off in Ms. Brown’s room (21-035). This form will be mailed home, linked in this email, and has been emailed to all seniors.

  • Sophomores: Class ring orders can still be placed using Jostens Jewelry Online Store or by calling 1-800-JOSTENS from 8am-7pm. Bilingual assistance is available.
  • CAPE Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs Needed: We received great response from our outreach to parents to volunteer for CAPE Committee. We are still in need for the following positions:
  • The PSAT will be given on Wednesday, October 16th at 8am. Juniors interested in participating in the National Merit Scholarship Program must take the PSAT in order to be eligible. The cost of the exam is $17 made payable to Muscatine High School at the MHS Attendance Center. Stop in Student Services after the payment is made to pick up the PSAT Study Guide. There are fifty-five (55) tests available to juniors and twenty (20) available for sophomores who wish to take it as practice. October 14th is the deadline to sign up. Please contact Mr. Mueller in Student Services with any questions.
  • The Muskie Cheerleaders are going to the Iowa state championship competition at the beginning of November. The cheerleaders will be fundraising to help pay for admission fees, hotel costs, and gas.   • Seniors: Senior parking spot due date has been pushed back to October 10th and painting will be done on Oct. 13th and 20th. Also, remember that this is the only chance you will have for the whole year to purchase a spot. If you would like your own painted and reserved parking space, make sure to pick up an application packet at the Attendance Center. Packets and money ($35) must be turned in to Ms. Heimerdinger (11-028) by Thursday, October 10th.
  • Seniors: It’s not too late to order graduation items.Orders can be placed using Jostens Graduation Online Store or by calling 1-800-JOSTENS from 8am-7pm. Bilingual assistance is available.
  • Parents and Guardians: Our school utilizes the School Messenger system to deliver text messages, straight to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts and more.*  You can participate in this free service* just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587.  See flyer for more information.   SMS Text Opt-In Flyer.pdf
  • Lifetouch Picture Orders:  If you would like to place an order from picture day, go to https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/ .  Picture Day ID is BN309002Q0.  Proofs are available in Student Services.  Picture retake day is October 30th starting at 7am in the gym.

  • Breakfast starts at 7:30am and runs until 8:15am and is available in the Cafeteria and Library Cafe.

  • The Muscatine Dance Team are selling Muskie M’s to be painted on driveways!

** Silver Cord Opportunities/Volunteer Opportunities **

  • The Muscatine Arboretum Committee is looking for 2 or 3 students who could work for a couple of hours to assist in spreading mulch around the bases of trees in the Arboretum.  (We have equipment to load and deliver mulch, but we need people to spread it once it is delivered to each tree.) Students interested, please contact Kathleen Green at kittyagreen@yahoo.com or 563-299-9245.
  • The YMCA is looking for high school students interested in teaching the game of basketball to youth and help running scoreboard. Volunteers are able to get four hours every Saturday morning from 8:30-12:30 starting October 26th. Contact Brandon VanZandt at 563-263-9996 or bvanzandt@muscatiney.org for more information.
  • The MCSD Food & Nutrition Dept. is looking for MHS students to help students at elementary schools with breakfast cards & getting through the serving lines any time from 7-8am during the 2019-2020 school year. If you are interested in helping out & earning silver cord hours starting Friday 8/23, please contact Alisha Eggers at 563-263-7223 or alisha.eggers@mcsdonline.org
