  • MHS Homecoming Events
    Sept. 26 – Powder Puff – 7 PM – MHS Football Stadium
    Sept. 29 – Homecoming Parade – 6 PM
    Sept. 29 – Coronation – 7 PM – MHS Gym
    Sept. 30 – Senior March to Red Brick Building – 11 AM (Permission slip required)
    Sept. 30 – Homecoming Football Game – 7 PM – MHS Football Stadium
    Oct. 1 – Homecoming Dance – 9PM – 12 AM – MHS Gym
  • Seniors!!  Senior Homecoming March Permission Slips can be picked up at the Attendance Center. Permission slips need to be signed by your parent/guardian and returned by Thursday, Sept. 22nd to Mrs. Walker in room 130 (science hall). The cost is $5 and the march will take place Friday, September 30th.
  • For those interested in the Summer 2017 Honduras Trip: There will be a presentation Thursday, September 22nd at 5:00 PM in the MHS Library. Students and parents are invited to learn about the trip and meet with a representative from Operation Wallacea. Attendance is strongly recommended for those wanting to join the expedition. Contact Mrs. Coffman (room 138) with any questions.
  • Latino Youth Summit – Any student interested in attending the Latino Youth Summit in Iowa City please attend an informational meeting in Mrs. Kroll’s room (213) this Wednesday, Sept. 21, during the second half of Enrichment.
  • Girls’ Basketball: Open gym this week is on Monday and Thursday from 5:45-7:15pm in the main gym.
  • Model UN: Juniors and Seniors interested in attending the New York trip in March should see Ms. Hansen during lunch on Thursday, September 22. For students attending the Des Moines conference, Paper Night has been moved to Monday, October 3 from 6:30-8:30 pm.
  • FCA: Meeting over lunch on Wednesday, September 21 in Room 11-037 (first floor, new wing). Pizza will be provided!
  • Boys Basketball Open Gym will be held, starting on Monday, September 19th, from 7:15 ‐ 8:45 pm in the MHS gym. Most open gyms will be held on Monday and Thursday nights at the same time.
  • Financial Aid Presentation – Wednesday, September 28th , MHS Commons – 6 PM
    Do You Know How to Pay for College? If you’re a senior planning for college (or the parent of one), you probably have questions about the financial aid process. Find answers during a free presentation by the Iowa College Access Network® (ICAN). Topics will include:
    Financial Aid Process, FAFSA Application Review, Understanding FAFSA Results, Understanding Costs – College Comparisons, Financial Aid Options, Scholarships Process, Where to Go for Help
  • ICAN Tip of the Week – September 15, 2016 – FSA IDs and Preparing for the FAFSA form  YouTube – FSA IDs and Preparing for the FAFSA form
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology students will be attending a field trip on September 21st to Palmer Chiropractic’s Human Anatomy & Physiology organ labs to participate in an engaging laboratory activity. This opportunity is a rare chance to see first hand the organs that comprise us, effects of environmental stressors on organ function, advancements in medical technology, and developmental changes that occur throughout a person’s life. Remember to turn in your permission slips by the end of the day Monday, Sept. 19th!
  • The Healthy Living Fest Committee is looking for golf cart driver volunteers for their event on September 24th.   Please contact Brenda Christensen at bchristensen@mpw.org if you are interested in driving a golf cart for a couple hours — shift times are 10 am-12 pm, 12 pm-2pm, and 2 pm- 3:30 pm.

  • Class of 2017 – Need help completing your college applications? Bring your lunch and your laptop to the Student Services Conference Room during Enrichment on the first and third Wednesdays the months of October, November and December to get assistance from MHS Counselors and staff. October 5, October 19, November 2, November 16, November 30, December 14
  • MHS Baseball – Anyone interested in playing baseball is invited to participate in open field at Tom Bruner field every Monday from 6:30-8 pm as well as Saturday (beginning this weekend) at 9 am for Freshmen and Sunday at 1pm for Soph/Varsity. Follow the MHS Baseball Twitter page at https://twitter.com/MHSMuskieBBall for possible cancellations and any other updates.
  • Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) – Golden Circle College and Career Fair, Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Iowa Events Center – HyVee Hall, 730 3rd St, Des Moines, IA. Largest college & career fair in the State of Iowa, bringing the greatest variety of colleges and universities from across Iowa, and the nation. The fair is sponsored by ACT, Inc, The Greater Des Moines Partnership, and Hy-vee. There will be a career feature that will have 16 Career Clusters represented by Iowa Businesses, enabling students grades 9-12, to discuss prospective career pathways with the leaders in those fields.  Iowa College Access Network

** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • The Healthy Living Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 24th from 10am-3pm and we are looking for volunteers to help out at the Kids Activity Tent at Weed Park with miscellaneous activities. We also have other kids activities at the Riverfront that we are looking for help with. We would like to do shifts of 10am-1pm and noon-3pm on that Saturday. Please contact Brenda Christensen at 563- 299-6425 to sign up!
