** Daily News & Information **

  • Seniors: If you would like your own painted and reserved parking space, make sure to pick up an application packet at the Attendance Center. Packets and money ($35) must be turned in to Ms. Heimerdinger (11-028) by Thursday, October 3rd. Painting of spaces will take place on October 5th and 6th. Spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis! See application packet for more details and requirements. 
  • TODAY! Seniors: On September 25th, Jostens will be taking graduation orders during lunch time in front of Student Services. Orders can also be placed using  Jostens Graduation Online Store or by calling 1-800-JOSTENS from 8am-7pm – bilingual assistance is available.
  • Deaf Awareness Week – Interesting Facts
    • 250 million people, 15% of the population have some kind of hearing loss.
    • The outside part of your ear is called the pinna and its job is to collect and funnel sound into your ear canal.
    • Ear wax is important for keeping dirt out of your ear canal.
    • The three bones in your middle ear are the smallest bones in your body, and all three could fit together on a dime.
    • The inner ear is called the cochlea. It is shaped like a snail shell and is about the size of a pencil eraser, but it contains more than 20,000 hairs or cilia. The cilia turn sound waves into electrical impulses that run along your auditory nerve to your brain.

  • The PSAT will be given on Wednesday, October 16th at 8am. Juniors interested in participating in the National Merit Scholarship Program must take the PSAT in order to be eligible. The cost of the exam is $17 made payable to Muscatine High School at the MHS Attendance Center. Stop in Student Services after the payment is made to pick up the PSAT Study Guide. There are fifty-five (55) tests available to juniors and twenty (20) available for sophomores who wish to take it as practice. Please contact Mr. Mueller in Student Services with any questions.
  • Juniors: If interested in the Job Shadow program, please complete and submit the Job Shadow Application google form that was emailed to you by October 1st. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Beran in Student Services.
  • Poetry Out Loud will meet on Fridays during Muskie Time in room 11-009. Sign up in adaptive scheduler under Mr. Gehret.
  • Seniors: If you did not go on the Senior March and still want to put your handprint on the senior wall, please stop by the wall this Friday, the 27th during lunch. You will have the opportunity to put your handprint and signature on the wall at that time. Please make sure to bring your ID.
  • Seniors: If you are interested in applying to any one of the United States Military Academies now is the time to complete the nomination packet. The deadline for applications is October 31st. If you have questions see Mrs. Hawkins or Ms. Beran.
  • Girls’ Basketball:Open gym on Thursday will be at MHS from 5:30-7:00pm.
  • Parents and Guardians: Our school utilizes the School Messenger system to deliver text messages, straight to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts and more.*  You can participate in this free service* just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587.  See flyer for more information.   SMS Text Opt-In Flyer.pdf
  • Lifetouch Picture Orders:  If you would like to place an order from picture day on Sept. 9th, go to https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/ .  Picture Day ID is BN309002Q0.
    Picture retake day is October 30th starting at 7am in the gym.
  • Seniors: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an important application that prospective college students must complete to qualify for state and federal financial aid.

  • Breakfast starts at 7:30am and runs until 8:15am and is available in the Cafeteria.

** Silver Cord Opportunities/Volunteer Opportunities **

  • The MCSD Food & Nutrition Dept. is looking for MHS students to help students at elementary schools with breakfast cards & getting through the serving lines any time from 7-8am during the 2019-2020 school year.
