WMS Daily Announcements 11/17/16

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL               ANNOUNCEMENTS                     11/17/2016

Today is a BLUE Day!

Upcoming events and dates to remember:

Nov. 23 – 2 hour early dismissal

Nov. 24, 25 – NO SCHOOL

Dear West Families,

As many of you know, morning traffic at West has been a bit of a challenge some days! Thanks to the cooperation of Transportation, Maintenance and Central Office staff we have a positive solution. Beginning Monday, November 28, the day we return from Thanksgiving Break, the following changes will be in effect:

Morning

  1. Busses will drop students off at the back of the parking lot by the large gym.
  2. Cars will drop students off in the front of the building. Cars will enter the current bus lane from the north (from Fulliam Ave past McKinley School). After dropping off students, drivers will proceed south on Kindler toward Newell Ave.
    1. It will not be possible to turn left toward Fulliam between 7:30 and 7:45.
    2. Those who must come from the south OR have students at McKinley are encouraged to drop all students off at McKinley. West students can cross Kindler using the light. Please do not drop students off and have them walk across the traffic.
  • Doors open at 7:50, students are allowed in the halls at 8:17 and the tardy bell rings at 8:25.

After School – No change to current procedures

  1. Busses will pick students up in the front of the building.
  2. Cars will pick students up from the large gym. Please park when you arrive to avoid traffic spilling onto Kindler.
    1. Students are dismissed at 3:21 to go their lockers. Dismissal is at 3:25.

The Sheriff’s Department will help direct traffic as we all develop new habits! I apologize for changing things so late in the year, and greatly appreciate your support as we create a safer environment for our students and families at West. Please call (563-263-0411) or email (jan.collinson@mcsdonline) if you have any questions or comments.

The Muscatine Orchestra Boosters are once again selling Flower Cards through the Flower Gallery in Muscatine.  For $30, you will receive a card that entitles you to 1 bouquet of flowers from The Flower Gallery each month in 2017.  Yes, that means you are getting 12 bouquets for only $30!  Talk to any 7th & 8th grade orchestra student or Ms. Blanchard to get yours!  We will be selling them until we run out.

It is that time of year again when the musical will commence. Once again the musical is only open to 7th and 8th Grade students at Central and West.

Auditions will be:

Central- Monday, Nov. 14th and Wednesday, Nov. 16th in the Auditorium

West – Monday, Nov. 21st in the West Choir Room

Students interested in doing the musical should go to www.muskiechoir.com for all of the information and to sign up for an audition time. All information is located under the Musical Information page.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know at your earliest convenience at   tristan.tolle@mcsdonline.org . Practices will start on Monday, November 28th at Central Middle School and we will provide transportation for you.

Instructional Time is very important to us at West. We don’t interrupt class time to deliver messages. Our last class of the day begins at 2:42 and ends at 3:21. Beginning October 3rd, messages must be received before 2:30 to assure they will be announced at2:42.

The sixth grade teachers and students would appreciate if everyone could turn in any Box Tops they have been collecting at home: 6th graders can bring their Box Tops to Mrs. Soy or Mrs. Stutzel, and 7th and 8th graders can bring their Box Tops to the main office. Every Box Top counts!

For your convenience all athletic and activity events can now be found on the WMS calendar.  This one stop convenient calendar will make it easy for staff, students and parents to access dates and times for all activities. Just click on the “School Calendar” tab at the top right.

The Attendance Office has purple NIKE athletic bags for sale for $30.00. Stop by to take a look.
