Virtual Backpack

Muscatine Schools Virtual Backpack is the district’s “green” approach to distributing information from school sponsored activities and non-profit organizations during the school year. The district will no longer send flyers home with students from these organizations beginning with the 2015-16 school year.

Why Go Green?

  • Parents will now be able to find information in one easy online location.
  • Saves our district and community non-profits money on printing.
  • Be more responsible toward caring for the environment.

For Parents:

Parents can sign up to receive backpack items by subscribing to their student’s school news feed or the district’s news feed. (Sign up HERE.) All that is required is an email address. For step-by-step instructions: Virtual Backpack Sign Up Instructions

Items in the Virtual Backpack will also be posted onĀ  the district’s Facebook page, Twitter feed, and Pinterest.

Parents who would like a hard copy of any of the backpack items can pick them up at their child’s school or the district office.

For Organizations:

Non-school sponsored information will only be distributed from non-profit organizations via the Virtual Backpack. All flyer distribution requests should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the desired distribution date using the MCSD Virtual Backpack Request to Distribute Materials form. Also, one copy of the exact material in PDF form must be emailed to vBackpack@mcsdonline.org.

Non-school sponsored materials must include the following statement located in a conspicuous location:

This is not a Muscatine Community School District publication. It is being distributed through the school district as a community service of the district to inform you of other community activities or services available.

Limited Print Materials: Upon approval, a limited number of materials (50 per building) may be distributed for students who do not have a computer and/or internet access via each school’s secretary or the administration office. All flyers must be approved and dropped off at the district office for distribution. NO flyers should be dropped off at the school buildings. Flyers should be separated in bundles and labeled with the name of the school you would like your flyer to be distributed to.
