2015-16 Draft Calendar – Parent/Community Feedback

The Calendar Committee has met and determined factors that must be considered when developing a calendar. This 2015-16 Draft Calendar is the result of taking into account the following factors:

Calendar Considerations for Muscatine Community School District

There are a number of factors that must be considered in developing the school calendar.  The most significant elements that impact the development of the school calendar include the following:

  • 178 student instruction days
  • 6 teacher in-service days (as per contract)
  • 2 teacher quality days
  • 2 parent/teacher conference compensation days (as per contract)
  • 6 holidays (as per contract)
  • 2 semesters consisting of 89 days of student instruction each
  • Coordinated spring break with state university systems
  • 80% of instruction prior to AP exam dates (early May)
  • 80% of instruction prior to ACT exam
  • 80% of instruction prior to Iowa exams (grades 3-8)
  • Coordinated calendar to accommodate MCC / PSEO classes
  • Honor traditional holidays
  • Provide as many 5-day weeks as possible
  • Identify school make-up days

As you will note after looking at the draft calendar, it is very hard to accommodate each factor. The Calendar Committee asks that parents and community persons take a look at the calendar and the various factors for consideration and provide any feedback that they may have.
