- Baseball Meeting – Any boys interested in going out for Baseball, please attend the meeting on Thursday, October 9 at 3:35 in the Commons. If you are unable to attend please email edwin.colon@mcsdonline.org
- Come join us for SOAP! We will be meeting on Thursday, October 8 at 2702 Surrey Court from 7:30-9:00.I
- f you are interested in being part of the Environmental club, please meet in Mrs. Baillie’s room 146, Thursday, October 9th, after school.
- Art Club will hold its first meeting of the year after school this Thursday, Oct. 9th in the art room (room 106). Art Club is for everyone that loves art! Join us!
- Model UN: Anyone attending the Des Moines conference must attend a training session on parliamentary procedure. Choose one of two sessions to attend: Thurs, Oct 9 @ 7:00pm orMonday, Oct 13 @ 7:15am. Email your training preference to Ms. Hansen.
- Key Club: Our next meeting will be Wed, Oct 15 at 7:20am in the Commons. Bring $14 for your dues and any donations from the sleep-in-a-box night. This is the last dayto pay dues. Make checks payable to MHS Key Club.
- Girls Basketball: Open gym this week is on Monday (7:00-8:30pm) and Thursday (5:30-7:00pm) in the main gym.
- The freshmen football game on 10/13 at Brady Street Stadium starts at 4:30.
- The Teen Library Committee (TLC) will now have their first meeting on Wednesday, October 8th at 12:15 (note the change in date)in the library. Bring your lunch, a book, and a friend! Anyone interested is still welcome to sign up in the library or send Mrs. Keltner an email!
- Friday, October 10 – Soph/Varsity Football Ottumwa will be played Schaefer Stadium (1401 E 4th, Ottumwa). The Sophomore game will start at 5:00 PM, with the varsity game to follow. Go Muskies!
- Students are reminded to check their PowerSchool every day to see if they have a Tardy. If you do, you have 2 days to serve the detention. This means you have the day you received the detention and the next day to serve or you will have ISS the day after that.
- This Friday – Interested in earning Silver Cord hours? The Colorado Fall Festival is looking for volunteers to help with games and activities for families on Friday, Oct. 10 from 4:40-8:30 PM. If interested in volunteering, please email Heather Noll at noll@mcsdonline.org or text 563.260.8251 (please leave a name and number where you can be reached).
- The PSAT sign ups are going on NOW in Student Services. The fee is $14. The exam will be on October 15th at the Board Office. Call MHS Student Services with any questions.
- Baseball & Softball parents are in charge of working at football concessions on Friday, October 17th. There are two shifts to work 4:30 is start of 1st shift and 6:30 is start of 2nd Lots of volunteers are needed to run the concessions. Parents are reminded that the Booster club provides money to the sports to help with equipment, tournaments, etc. Parents are asked to volunteer to work in exchange for the funds provided to their students sport. - Students – You will no longer receive a note to report to your Enrichment for next week. You will be receiving an email from your grade level counselor telling you which enrichment to attend. You will get this email if you are new to enrichment or if your enrichment class has changed. Students who remain in enrichment will not be notified. If you have any questions of where you should report please log into PowerSchool and check your schedule on Monday mornings.
- Scholarship Information can be found at the end of the announcements in their own section. If you have any questions, please contact Student Services.
- Juniors and Seniors – Washington University in St Louis will have Admission Counselors available at the West Des Moines Marriott on Sunday, October 26, 2014. If you have questions, contact Wash U at 800-638-0700.
- Senior Pictures and a senior saying is due November 14th. This information has been sent to students and parents.
- Class of 2015, If you are a student athlete who plans or has the potential to participate in athletics in college at the Division 1, Division 2, or NAIA level, please make an appointment to meet with Mr. Welsch in the next few weeks to make sure that you meet the NCAA Clearinghouse requirements. It is important to note that some of these requirements differ from MHS graduation requirements and must be met in order to participate in athletics at the Division 1, Division 2 and NAIA levels.
- Blood Drive – Key Club will hold a Blood Drive on November 10. We will send more information when it becomes available.

- October 14 – 9(G)/10/Varsity Volleyball Dav. North has been rescheduled to October 13 @ Dav. North (date change due to Dav. North’s request). The 9th grade game will begin at 4:30, with the sophomore and varsity games to follow.

November 18 – Seniors report to auditorium 10:10 on November 18 for Graduation information.
November 25 – Jostens will be here to take orders in the commons hallway during lunch.

Senior Scholarships
- Horatio Alger Association Scholarship: Application is available at horatioalger.org/scholarships. Deadline is October 25, 2014
- Awards range from $7000-$22,000
- Plan on attending college in the Fall of 2015
- Demonstrate Financial Need
- Be involved in school and community
- 0 GPA minimum
- US Citizen
- University of Iowa Presidential Scholarship is now available at http://admissions.uiowa.edu/finances/scholarships-first-year-students. Deadline is December 12, 2014.
- 30 ACT (or a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1330
- 80 GPA on a 4.00 scale
- Other criteria are on the application
- **Other Iowa, ISU, and UNI scholarships are available on the websites of each individual institution.
- Washington University in St Louis: Students interested in applying for the Danforth Scholarship (full or partial tuition) please see Ms. Anderson before October 10th, 2014
- Notre Dame University: Students interested in applying for the Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program ($25,000 per year for 4 years) please see Ms. Anderson before October 10th, 2014
- Voice of Democracy: The Veterans of Foreign Wars offers the Voice of Democracy contest to graduation seniors annually (up to $30,000). For rules and application procedures visit vfw.org/VOD. Deadline is November 1, 2014
