Go Muskies!

  • Spring Sports Assembly – The Spring Sports assembly is scheduled for Monday, April 25th at 3 PM in the MHS Gymnasium.  Prom and CAPE information will also be discussed as well as a short game of human hungry hippo.
  • Juniors & Seniors: Prom tickets will be sold in front of Student Services during lunch/enrichment this week and next. Tickets are $15 each.
  • The MHS Drama Department is proud to present “Catch Me If You Can – The Musical” on Thursday, April 21st and Friday, April 22nd at 7pm, and again on Saturday, April 23rd at 2:00 and 7:30 pm.  Performances are held in the MHS Auditorium.   Tickets are available in advance (reserved seats) Catch Me Ticket Order Form  Tickets are also available at the door on the day of the show.  Adults $8, Senior (60+) and Students (K-12) $6.  Please note – no passes.  Catch Me If You Can Poster

  • Are you interested in hosting a student from France for 4 weeks this summer?  Language & Friendship is looking for a couple of families to welcome a French high school student into their home from June 10 to July 10.  To apply, or for more information, go to languageandfriendship.com and click on the hosting link, or see Mrs. Paulsen in room 201.
  • Football Players: All Freshmen, planning on participating in Sophomore football next season, need to report to Coach Moose’s room on Wednesday, April 20th at 12:30.  We are going to have a short meeting. Coach Moose’s room is 11-022.
  • Girls’ Basketball: Open gyms this week are Monday from 5:30-7:00pm and Thursday from 7:00-8:30pm in the main gym.
  • Girls & Boys Soccer Players: Soccer Work Day is Sunday, April 24.  If you have not picked up your assignment, please contact your coach for details.  If you have any questions please contact Kathy Berns @ 563-260-4380.
  • Scholarship Opportunity: The NROTC Scholarship is a full ride scholarship ($180,000) to any university that has an NROTC program. Upon graduating from college, they will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, leading Marines as young 22 year old! NROTC scholarship recipients will be debt free from students loans and have a guaranteed career with starting pay and allowances of up to $60,000! Some nearby schools are Iowa State University, University of Nebraska, University of Illinois, and Marquette University.

    If you would like to learn more about the NROTC program, Staff Sergeant Reyes from the U.S. Marine Corps will be in the Auditorium this Wednesday, April 20th at 12:30 to present more information about this opportunity.
  • Muskie Football: Current 8th-11th grade football parents, we will have a Spring meeting on Sunday, May 15th at 4:15 PM in the MHS cafeteria.

    2016 Muskie football players (grades 8-11), Sunday, May 15th at 5pm, we will have our Lift-a-thon letter writing night. We will meet in the MHS Commons.

    2016 Sophomore & Varsity football players can pick up their summer workout schedules in Coach Mueller’s office.
  • Muskie Baseball Fundraiser: Present your Home Team Advantage Card (attached) at the Muscatine Buffalo Wild Wings from now until May 31st and the Muskie baseball program will receive a portion of your total bill. BWW Home Team Advantage Card

  • All students interested in the Work-Based Learning Manufacturing Program need to have applications with references completed and turned in to Mr. Kitzmann no later than Friday, May 13th.

  • Summer Work Opportunity – Attention students!  If you are interested in earning some money this summer, please stop by Student Services to pick up information about detasseling.
  • CAPE Adult Volunteers needed to work on May 1, 2016.  CAPE is the post-prom event that takes place at MHS and is FREE to all Juniors and Seniors to attend. There are various jobs and shifts to volunteer for such as large games, casino games, food, etc.  If available or would like more information, please contact Ginger Chatfield at ginger.chatfield@mcsdonline or Becky Wichers at becky.wichers@mcsdonline.org
  • CAPE Committee Members needed for next year.  We have several CAPE committee member positions that need to be filled for next year — Chair and Co-chair, Treasurer, Games…and possibly a couple more.  This would ensure that CAPE plans for next year would not be interrupted or delayed.  We have at least 5 parents of Seniors that want to step down and allow others to take over their positions.  If interested, please contact Ginger Chatfield at ginger.chatfield@mcsdonline
  • CAPE – Large plastic bottles needed (Hawaiin Punch, Cranberry Juice, not gallon milk containers).  If you have any to donate, please drop them off at MHS – Attn: Ginger Chatfield.
  • Junior and Senior Girls:  If you are in need of a Prom Dress, stop in the Assistant Principal’s Office and see Mrs. Chatfield.
  • Prom 2016 – April 30th: To attend prom, students need to be at least a 3rd year student (Junior or Senior) in good standing with at least 14 credits. Also, out of town guests need to be approved prior to prom. Prom Guest Letters are available in the Asst. Principal’s office.  This permission slip is for guests that do not attend MHS, are in good standing and are under the age of 21.  Guest forms need to be approved by MHS administration by Tuesday, April 26th.

  • SENIOR GIRLS & PARENTS: Muscatine Community YMCA honors MHS Senior Girls Athletes
    The Muscatine Community YMCA will hold it’s 40th annual Senior Female Athletic Recognition Banquet Wednesday, April 27th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wesley Methodist Church.  The banquet & program will be held to honor the senior girls athletes of all MHS sports, and thank them and their coaches for their contribution to the MHS Athletic Program, the Muscatine community and the field of sports for women.  The Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year award, chosen by the athletes, will be presented.   Keynote speaker for the event will be Frannie Malone, Associate Head Coach for Women’s and Men’s Swimming and Diving for the University of Iowa.   Athletes, parents and coaches should have received an invitation in the mail.  Reservations need to be turned in by Fri., April 22.  For more information, contact Amy or Mel at the Y at 263-9996.

  • Muskie Booster Members Needed!  The Muskie Boosters are currently recruiting new board members for the 2016-2017 Board.  Board members help with special events like Fall kick-off, Cake Auction, etc. also helping with concession volunteers.  The Muskie Boosters support all MHS sports, activities, clubs, etc raising funds and helping keep the activities/sports going.   • 4th Annual MCSD Race for Schools  in on May 7, 2016.  Registration forms are available at the Attendance Office.
  • STARTALK grant from the National Security Agency. The grant supports high school kids to study Chinese this summer at the University of Iowa from July 5-29 to earn college credits. The grant will cover expenses of tuition, textbooks, lunches, and cultural activities. ** Silver Cord Opportunities **

Students are needed to help at the Middle School track meets on April 26.  If you are interested in earning Silver Cord hours or for more information, please contact Dan Wright, CMS Sports Coordinator, at dan.wright@mcsdonline.org

Two students are needed to rearrange books in the Homeschool Office Library at the School Board Office.  If you like to rearrange and organize things, this would be a perfect fit for you!  Four (4) Silver Cord hours are available per student.  If interested, please call the School Board Office at 563-263-7223 and ask for Gina or Kat.

Children’s Cancer Connection Empower Scholarship – Applications for the fall Semester are due May 27, 2016. KWQC Broadcast ScholarshipThey are offering (2)$1000 scholarships. Must live in the KWQC viewing area and plan on enrolling in broadcasting classes. Deadline is May 6, 2016. Pick up an application is in student services.

Toyota of Muscatine Scholarship – Toyota of Muscatine has established a scholarship program through the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine for graduating Muscatine County students. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually and is renewable for a second year.  To be eligible, a student: Must be a graduating senior, Muscatine County resident, 2.5 cumulative GPA or better, demonstrate unmet financial need, intend to enroll in an automotive program or business field such as business, finance or marketing at an accredited Iowa educational institution. ACLU Robert Mannheimer Youth Advocacy AwardThe Mannheimer Award carries a $500 cash prize, given each year to a young Iowan who has shown a passion and advocacy for civil liberties.  To nominate someone or enter yourself, just go to www.aclu-ia.org.  Deadline is April 25, 2016.

Muscatine County Soil and Water Conservation Districts’ Kirchner Scholarship information – The Muscatine County Soil and Water Conservation District has established this scholarship program through the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine for graduating Muscatine County students. One $1,000 scholarship is available this year.  to be eligible, at student: Must be a graduating senior, be a Muscatine County resident, 2.5 cumulative GPA or gerr, intend to pursue a career in conservation or agriculture, preference will be given first, to those students enrolling at accredited educational institutions in conservation or agricultural programs, and secondly, those students demonstrating unmet financial need.  Applications are available in Student Services.  For more information, visit your high school counselor’s office, call the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine at 563-264-3863 or email smaharry@GivingGreater.org

Alive and Running Scholarship – Alive and Running is a volunteer driven 5K Run/Walk event held in Dunkerton, Iowa to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention. The Alive and Running Fund will award a $1,500 scholarship to a 2016 High School graduating senior or Current College Student to fund educational costs at a college, university, vocational, or trade school. The award is to recognize and support an individual who has made a positive contribution to the state of Iowa. Iowa Section Professional Golfers’ Association, the Iowa PGA Foundation offers an annual scholarship opportunity in memory on one of its members – Charlie Burkart. This scholarship is open to any graduating senior within our section boundaries and any graduating student of an Iowa high school. It is awarded every year to one recipient. The winner will receive $1000 each year of full-time attendance for four years at a college or university of their choice. Deadline is June 15, 2016.  PGA Golf Scholarship

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship:  Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:  A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics & A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of health care. This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue a college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship: Must be of Protestant Faith, resident of Iowa, and will attend the University of Iowa full-time in the Fall of 2016.  The scholarship award is $800.  The application is only available in MHS Student Services.  Application deadline: May 2, 2016.

Midwest Technical Institute Scholarship Program: Must plan to attend MTI in Fall of 2016.
The application is available in MHS Student Services or with an admissions representative at MTI www.midwesttech.edu   Application deadline: July 1, 2016.
