- Juniors & Seniors: LAST DAY TO GET YOUR CAPE PERMISSION SLIPS IN! CAPE tickets are FREE and you can attend CAPE even if you don’t go to Prom! In order to receive your tickets, a parent-signed release form must be filled out and returned. (If you are 18 or older, you can fill out/sign your own form.) CAPE Release Forms are available in the Asst. Principal’s Office (Mrs. Chatfield) or at the CAPE table during lunch/enrichment located in gym/commons foyer. You MUST have a signed release form turned in order to receive the FREE tickets. Don’t miss out on the FREE fun! CAPE is May 1, 12AM – 4AM at MHS – immediately following Prom.
CAPE – What to Expect
- Juniors & Seniors: Prom tickets will be sold in front of Student Services. Tickets are $15 each. LAST DAY TO PURCHASE YOUR PROM TICKETS.
- Prom 2016 – April 30th: To attend prom, students need to be at least a 3rd year student (Junior or Senior) in good standing with at least 14 credits.
- April 28 – Girls Tennis vs. Dav. North has been rescheduled for May 2nd.
- MHS CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS FOR THE 2016 FALL SEASON are scheduled for Friday, April 29th from 4:30 – 8:30 pm in the Commons and Cafeteria. Doors will open at 3:30 pm that day to practice and warm up. All students in grades 8th-11th are encouraged to try out! If you have any questions please email Head Coach, Ashley Sink, at muskiecheercoach@gmail.com
- Adopt-a-Highway scheduled for Jeff Schmelzer’s Work Study on April 28 has been rescheduled for May 3.
- Baseball Tryouts will begin Monday, May 2nd for anyone interested in playing baseball this year. Freshmen and sophomores will have tryouts beginning at 4pm at Tom Bruner Field. Varsity tryouts will follow at 5pm – VARSITY TRYOUT TIME HAS BEEN MOVED UP TO 5 PM.

Please check the lists to see if you are on the appropriate list before May 4th, 2016. If you are not on a list and feel you should be, check with Mrs. Edkin in Student Services for Academic Awards or Mrs. Chatfield in the Assistant Principal’s office for Perfect Attendance questions.
Qualifications for Academic Awards this year are as follows:
Sophomore who has 3 consecutive semesters of 3.0 GPA and above.
Junior who has 5 consecutive semesters of 3.0 GPA and above.
Senior who has 7 consecutive semesters of 3.0 GPA and above.
Students listed will be recognized at the Academic Awards Assembly Thursday, May 12th @ 9:00 AM
in the gym. Parents are also invited to the Awards Assembly.
- Parent Volunteers URGENTLY needed to work CAPE! CAPE (Carnival After Prom Extravaganza) is a FREE night of safe fun, games and prizes for 11th and 12th grade students. - STEM: Growing the Future Internship (Summer) – Applications due by May 2, 2016.
Monsanto will be conducting numerous corn field trials this summer to determine if plant height can be modulated to improve pollination efficiencies and increase yield. Students will learn about plant physiology, the production of hybrid corn along with challenges related to increasing production. To support the trials we are looking for high achieving and actively engaged high school students to help support the study. Students will be gathering phenotype data for the screening trials. If successful, the screening trials will be scaled up in 2017 with eventual deployment across North America. Students will have interactions with professionals in the following disciplines: Engineering, Genetics, Agronomy, Plant Physiology, Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality and Industrial Hygiene.

The Rove Pest Control Scholarship – Applicants must be attending college by the Fall 2017 semester and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is open to anyone seeking a higher education. The NROTC Scholarship is a full-ride scholarship ($180,000) to any university that has an NROTC program. Upon graduating from college, they will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, leading Marines as young 22 year old! NROTC scholarship recipients will be debt free from students loans and have a guaranteed career with starting pay and allowances of up to $60,000! KWQC Broadcast Scholarship–They are offering (2)$1000 scholarships. Must live in the KWQC viewing area and plan on enrolling in broadcasting classes. Deadline is May 6, 2016. Pick up an application is in student services.
Toyota of Muscatine Scholarship – Toyota of Muscatine has established a scholarship program through the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine for graduating Muscatine County students. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually and is renewable for a second year. To be eligible, a student: Must be a graduating senior, Muscatine County resident, 2.5 cumulative GPA or better, demonstrate unmet financial need, intend to enroll in an automotive program or business field such as business, finance or marketing at an accredited Iowa educational institution. Preference will be given to applicants enrolling specifically in an automotive program. Applications are available in Student Services. Alive and Running Scholarship – Alive and Running is a volunteer driven 5K Run/Walk event held in Dunkerton, Iowa to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention. The Alive and Running Fund will award a $1,500 scholarship to a 2016 High School graduating senior or Current College Student to fund educational costs at a college, university, vocational, or trade school. The award is to recognize and support an individual who has made a positive contribution to the state of Iowa. Iowa Section Professional Golfers’ Association, the Iowa PGA Foundation offers an annual scholarship opportunity in memory on one of its members – Charlie Burkart. This scholarship is open to any graduating senior within our section boundaries and any graduating student of an Iowa high school. It is awarded every year to one recipient. Aspiring Nurse Scholarship: Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship: Must be of Protestant Faith, resident of Iowa, and will attend the University of Iowa full-time in the Fall of 2016. The scholarship award is $800. The application is only available in MHS Student Services. Application deadline: May 2, 2016.
