Go Muskies!

  • The 9th Grade Football game scheduled for tonight, Aug. 25, at Bettendorf has been cancelled due lack of players on the opposing team.  There will be no practice tonight.
  • Good luck to all of our student/athletes/activity members participating in events this week!
  • Muskie Football Fans – If you are attending the CR Kennedy football game tonight at CR Kennedy, the Muskie theme is “Beach Night”.  Sophomore game starts at 5 PM, with Varsity to follow.  Go Muskies!
  • Support Muskie Football with a Muskie Football T-Shirt for $10.  On sale in Student Services.  Checks to be make out to MHS Football Club.  Checks accepted, made out to MHS Football Club. Muskie Football T-Shirts
  • Back to School Dance, Friday, August 26 from 9-11 PM.  Dress is casual. $5 admission fee at the door.
  • For Students Interested in Marine Biology and Conservation Research – Study tropical rainforests and dive coral reefs on a research expedition to Honduras, Summer 2017! For more information, stop by Mrs. Coffman’s room 138.
  • Seniors & Parents of Seniors – This year brings a new change to filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Sallie Mae has created the attached information sheet to assist you.

  • MUSKIE 5K RUN/WALK at Weed Park (by the lagoon) Muscatine, Iowa on Monday, September 5, 2016. Start Time –  8:00 AM.  Course: The Weed Park trail; out and back; flat and fast. Entry Fee: $15 through September 1st. $20 late registration. T-shirt included. Register early; every effort will be made to honor your request, but cannot be guaranteed.     Make checks payable to Muscatine Boys Cross Country and mail along with completed entry form(s) to: Muscatine High School Attn: Chris Foxen 2705 Cedar St. Muscatine, IA 52761 Awards: Awards to the first place male and female in the 5K run. Medals to the first 3 finishers in each age category. Registration: 7:00-7:45 A.M. at Weed Park shelter (by the lagoon).
  • Students: If you find yourself in a bind and in need of some school clothes, school supplies, hygiene products or food email alison.anson@mcsdonline.org and you will be set up with what you need. You’re welcome to go to any of the guidance counselors or their secretaries to access the school supplies as well. The school pantry is called the Muskie Locker and all supplies are free of charge!
  • MHS Hall of Honor Nominations being accepted until Sept. 9, 2016.   At this time we are requesting nominees for the Muscatine High School Hall of Honor for the induction class of 2016.  Please submit all nominations along with accompanying material by September 9, 2016 to:

    The nomination form can be found at Muscatine High School – Principal’s Office or on the Muscatine High School website at www.muscatine.k12.ia.us/mhs.  Under “Forms” click on “Hall of Honor Nomination.”  A nominee must be an individual who has achieved distinction in a profession, public and/or community services and has had a positive influence on the lives of others. They must be a graduate of Muscatine High School at least 10 years prior to the year of nomination.If you have any questions, please contact Doreen Borde at doreen.borde@mcsdonline.org or call Muscatine High School at 263-6141 x 1116.
  • The MHS Attendance Office phone number is 263-6616.  Please use this number to call in absences, tardies, etc.
  • For information MHS Student policies, such as Dress Code, Tardies/Absences, etc., please refer to the MHS Student Handbook.  The MHS Student Handbook is in a bookmark folder in the toolbar of your Chromebook web browser called “MCSD”. The link to the student handbook is in that folder.  The MHS Student Handbook is also available on the MHS Website under the “For Parents and Students” folder.
  • Auditions for the MHS Fall Play will be held next Tuesday, 8/30 and Wednesday, 8/31 after school beginning at 3:45 pm. (Report to the choir room) You only need to attend one of the audition dates. This year our show is Play On!, a comedy by Rick Abbot.  More information is available at the drama webpage, www.muskiedrama.wordpress.com.  Contact Mrs. Mauck (rene.mauck@mcsdonline.org) with questions!  
  • The Muskie Girls’ Cross Country team is ranked 6th in the state in the pre-season rankings. First meet is at Cedar Rapids Prairie this Saturday.
  • The Volleyball team is looking for student managers that are willing to volunteer their time to assist the program.  Coach Martin is looking for 3 individuals, 2 to help with the varsity and 1 to help with the Sophomore squads, if interested please contact Coach Martin during practice times in the gym (4-6pm) or just leave your information with the Athletic Department.
  • Recycle the Dress Homecoming 2016 – Young ladies going to prom in Muscatine County can stop by and check out Recycle the Dress Homecoming 2016 onSaturday, August 27, 2016. This event will be held at the Muscatine Recycling Center and Transfer Station, 1000 S. Houser St. Muscatine, Iowa. This event is an opportunity to get a homecoming dress at no cost and is a first come, first serve event. Doors open at 9:00 am and the event ends at noon.  Recycle the Dress is in the 5th year for prom and the 3rd year for homecoming. All dresses are gentle worn and have been donated by generous members of our community. Over 700 young ladies have received dresses from this event. Recycling and being green is the in thing to do!   • Volleyball on Oct 18 vs Clinton has been moved to Oct 13 @ 4:30pm @ MHS.  
  • ID badges will be scanned during meal times — until 2016-17 ID badges are issued, students can use last years student ID or you will need to enter your student ID at the register.  This improves the speed of service and prevents unauthorized usages on your account.  ID badges will be distributed in the very near future.
  • On August 28, North Scott Cheer is teaming up with other area cheer teams (we invited over 20 teams) to have a gently owned Homecoming/Prom Dress Sale from
    1 – 6 pm at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Eldridge, IA. If you have a dress to donate or sell or if you are looking for a great way to save money on an amazing dress – please come out and see us! Dresses may be dropped off at Cornerstone on Aug 22-24 (Mon-Wed) at the church office from 8-12,  at our first game against Assumption at Brady St Stadium in Davenport on Thursday or on Friday in Eldridge from 3-6 pm.  See attached flier.  
    Homecoming Dresses

  • Peer Tutoring is a program for students that has students help students in math and science. We are currently in need of tutors for the program. To be a tutor you must have taken/be taking the subject that you want to help in and must have an A in the class. If you are interested please email either Evan Colony at
    colonyee@mcsdonline.org or Ms. Hirschfeld at betsy.hirschfeld@mcsdonline.org.  If you decide to tutor you will receive Silver Cord hours.
  • Muskie Booster Club Adult Activity Punch Card – If you would like to purchase a Parent Activity Punch Card you can purchase them tonight at the Fall Sports Kick-off or by sending in the attached order form.  Adult Activity Punch Card

  • CAPE Committee Members Needed!  Parents – If you are interested in being a Cape Committee Chair or Co-Chair, please email Ginger Chatfield at ginger.chatfield@mcsdonline.org  In order to keep CAPE available to our students, the CAPE Chair and Co-Chair positions are very important! These positions manage the various elements of CAPE. (Food, Decorations, Games, Budget, Prizes, Security, Volunteers to name a few.)
  • Yearbooks can be picked up at the Attendance Center throughout the summer.   If you did not order a yearbook but would like one, extra copies are for sale at the Attendance Center on a first come first serve basis for $56.00

** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • The West Middle School Homework Club is looking for high school students to tutor/buddy up with sixth-grade students to help them with their homework, practice reading aloud, etc.  The Homework Club will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 pm-5 pm.   If you are interested in volunteering please contact Amy Matteson at WMS – amy.matteson@mcsdonline.org.
