- October 11th Volleyball Hosting Davenport Central has been rescheduled to October 10th. Freshmen start at 4:30pm in the MHS gym.

- LifeTouch student & staff photos will be taken Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 7 – 11 am in the Commons Foyer. If you did not have your picture taken on Aug. 12, you will need to stop by and get your picture taken. The photo is used for your Student ID and for the yearbook.
- The Teen Library Committee will have their first meeting of the year Wednesday, August 31st during the second half of lunch in Mrs. Keltner’s office (in the library, right next to the tech office). Everyone is welcome to attend — bring your lunch and a friend! Email questions to Mrs. Keltner at: jen.keltner@mcsdonline.org
- Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) – Golden Circle College and Career Fair, Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Iowa Events Center – HyVee Hall, 730 3rd St, Des Moines, IA. Largest college & career fair in the State of Iowa, bringing the greatest variety of colleges and universities from across Iowa, and the nation. The fair is sponsored by ACT, Inc, The Greater Des Moines Partnership, and Hy-vee. There will be a career feature that will have 16 Career Clusters represented by Iowa Businesses, enabling students grades 9-12, to discuss prospective career pathways with the leaders in those fields.

- Student IDs are being distributed in front of STUDENT SERVICES for those students that had their picture taken on Aug. 12. Please tell the Student Council members your last name and grade. This will speed up the process. Also, If you purchased an ACTIVITY PASS, it is indicated on the card. When attending an event, please show your ID card for regular athletic events and specified concerts and drama events.
- Activity Pass – A list of those that purchased ACTIVITY PASSES will be available at all events until Student IDs are handed out. Give your name at the ticket booth or table and they will check the list to see if you purchased a pass.
- Model UN: If you missed the Model UN meeting this morning but are interested if finding out more about Model UN, please stop in and see Ms. Hansen.

- S.O.A.P. (Students of Active Prayer) is a student-led group that meets on Thursday nights from 7:30 to 9:00 pm for prayer and encouragement. All interested students are welcome!! We will meet this week, Sept. 1st, at 2702 Surrey Court. If you need a ride, or have any questions, contactSarah Solt, Sydney Roeth, Alyssa Scholz, or Mrs. Paulsen (in room 201).
- Key Club will have their first meeting of the year this Friday, September 2nd at 7:30am in the Commons. Join us and find out what Key Club is all about. Previous member please make sure to be there. Donuts and lots of fun are involved!

- Anyone interested in playing high school baseball is encouraged to attend a brief meeting in Coach Josupait’s room (AA14) on Wednesday, September 7th at 8am. If you have any questions, contact Coach Josupait or Coach Colón.
- Looking for a safe atmosphere to share your thoughts and ideas regarding a variety of topics? Then All Kinds Of People Jr. (AKOP Jr.) is the club for you to join! Formerly we were known as the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), but after reading the mission statement, it was decided we needed a more all-encompassing name. This club is student-run in a high school or middle school that brings together students to support each other, provide a safe place to socialize, and create a platform to fight for racial, gender, LGBTQ, and economic justice. If this sounds interesting to you please come to Mrs. Walker’s classroom (Room 130 in the Science Hall) Wednesday, September 14th at 3:45 pm. There will be snacks and drinks provided for this first meeting of the year.

- For Students Interested in Marine Biology and Conservation Research – Study tropical rainforests and dive coral reefs on a research expedition to Honduras, Summer 2017! For more information, stop by Mrs. Coffman’s room 138.

- MUSKIE 5K RUN/WALK at Weed Park (by the lagoon) Muscatine, Iowa on Monday, September 5, 2016. Start Time – 8:00 AM. Course: The Weed Park trail; out and back; flat and fast. Entry Fee: $15 through September 1st. $20 late registration. T-shirt included. Register early; every effort will be made to honor your request, but cannot be guaranteed. Medals to the first 3 finishers in each age category. Registration: 7:00-7:45 A.M. at Weed Park shelter (by the lagoon).
- Students: If you find yourself in a bind and in need of some school clothes, school supplies, hygiene products or food email alison.anson@mcsdonline.org and you will be set up with what you need. You’re welcome to go to any of the guidance counselors or their secretaries to access the school supplies as well. The school pantry is called the Muskie Locker and all supplies are free of charge!

- The Volleyball team is looking for student managers that are willing to volunteer their time to assist the program. Coach Martin is looking for 3 individuals, 2 to help with the varsity and 1 to help with the Sophomore squads, if interested please contact Coach Martin during practice times in the gym (4-6pm) or just leave your information with the Athletic Department.

** Silver Cord Opportunities **
- Peer Tutoring is a program for students that has students help students in math and science. We are currently in need of tutors for the program. To be a tutor you must have taken/be taking the subject that you want to help in and must have an A in the class. If you are interested please email either Evan Colony at
colonyee@mcsdonline.org or Ms. Hirschfeld at betsy.hirschfeld@mcsdonline.org. If you decide to tutor you will receive Silver Cord hours.
- The West Middle School Homework Club is looking for high school students to tutor/buddy up with sixth-grade students to help them with their homework, practice reading aloud, etc. The Homework Club will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 pm-5 pm.
