1st Semester Final Dates    2017 Detailed Finals Schedule

The Muskie Library will have extended hours for finals week! During finals week (Monday, December 18 and Tuesday, December 19) the library will be open from 7:30 am – 7:00 pm. Students are encouraged to come use the extra study time to prepare for semester tests or final projects – FREE snacks (brain food) will be served from 5:00-7:00 pm every night. Dec. 19: Finals for 1st, 3rd, 5th period classes
Dec. 20: Finals for 2nd, 4th, 6th period classes
Dec. 21: Finals for 7th hour class and make-ups (2-hr Early Out)

Dec. 22-29: NO SCHOOL – Winter Break – Happy Holidays!
Jan. 2: NO SCHOOL – Teacher Work Day
Jan. 3: Classes Resume – First Day of 2nd Semester

  • If you plan on attending events at PV or Dav. Central — {Please read the parking info below:
    Parking for Winter athletics at Pleasant Valley High School: Athletic spectators can park in the west lot or the new PVHS east parking lot off Scott Drive and enter PVHS from Spartan Stadium. Doors W1 and S7 will be open for all athletic spectators.
  • Davenport Central Spectator Parking and Entrance Change –
    Directions to Marshall Gym/Grensing Field House:

    • Spectators will want to park in the lots immediately west of the school on Harrison St or
      the lot immediately north of the school across 12 th St or in the lot directly south of the
      PAC.
    • There will be signs pointing you the West Sports Entrance off of Harrison St.
      (entrance 10W) Enter there. If you park in the lot south of the PAC, enter at the
      Pool/PAC commons entrance off of Harrison St.
      (The
      re will be no access to the building from the east (or Main St side) of the building or through the Grensing Fieldhouse entrance.)
  • Girls’ Tennis Sign-up: Any girls interested in playing high school tennis, please sign up in the Athletic Office (11-005).
  • Wells Fargo Advisors Shootout (Basketball) – US Cellular Center, Cedar Rapids, January 13th: Tickets are $10 ticket, 6 and under free.  Tickets on sale in the AD Office-rm 11-005 until Dec. 21st. Wells Fargo Advisors Shootout Info.pdf
  • MHS Winter Glow Concert is a joint and collaborative concert with the MHS Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Jonathan Thoma, has been changed from December 8th to December 15th. Please mark your calendars! The concert will take place on Friday, December 15th at Ss. Mary & Mathias at 7:30 pm.
  • MHS Band Concert: Saturday, Dec 16, 2017, 3:00pm – 4:30pm, MHS Auditorium
  • Overdue Library Books: If you have overdue library books, please return them or get them renewed before finals.
  • Last SOAP meeting will be a Christmas party this Thursday from 7:30-9:00 at 2702 Surrey Ct. Bring a snack to share!
  • Nominate MHS Staff of the Quarter: Teachers and Support Staff play an important role in the lives of children, families, and communities. Each quarter we would like to recognize outstanding educators at Muscatine High School and highlight her/his achievements.
    The Muscatine High School Staff of the Quarter award has been established to recognize outstanding people for their dedication, professionalism and work in the classroom. Those selected can be nominated by students, parents, administrators, community members and colleagues. All nominations should be turned into Chris Nienhaus by Dec. 20th.

  • Senior Survivor Packets: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast! Senior Survivor 2018 begins Monday, February 26th! Any male or female seniors wishing to participate should pick up a sign-up packet in the Attendance Office. Packets need to be completed and submitted to Mrs. Walsh (room 12-008, old room 140) by Friday, Jan. 5th at 3:30 pm.
  • Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer Sign-up: Any boy or girl interested in playing high school soccer, please sign up in the Athletic Office (rm 11-005).
  • Yearbook Orders: The last day for yearbook orders is February 12th. Order yours today at the Attendance Center – $56.
  • Girls’ High School Soccer Open Gym will start December 3 from 4-6 pm in the main gym.
    Open gyms will be December 3, 10, 17. Open gms will start again January 7th and every Sunday after until March 4th which will be the last open gym.
  • Boys’ High School Soccer Open Gyms are on Sundays from 2-4 pm in the main gym. There will be NO open gym on December 24, possibly the 31st. Open gyms will start again January 7th and every Sunday after until soccer practice begins in March.
  • Outstanding Fees: Letters for outstanding fees have been sent out to parents. Partial or full payments can be made. If you have questions, please contact the MCSD Finance Dept. at 263-7723.
  • 2018 Drake University Department of Physics and Astronomy Physics Prize: Students wishing to take this test please email Ms. Milani at margaret.milani@mcsdonline.org
    Must register by 1:00 pm on Friday, February 2, 2018.

    • Please Help Support Muscatine High School Bands!  For every purchase, you make at the Muscatine Hy-Vee Food (2400 Second Avenue) Store Monday, Dec 11 through Wednesday, Dec 13 that is accompanied by the attached slip, Hy-Vee will donate 7% of your total sale to the Muscatine High School Bands!
      Present this slip at any cash register when you complete your shopping. Hy-vee Shopping Slip

  • MHS Band Fundraiser: The Muscatine High School Band’s annual nut fundraiser is underway!
    The Koeze products – cashews, mixed nuts, puddles (turtles), chocolate dipped cherries and blueberries, malted milk balls, and milk chocolate raisins – make great holiday gifts for family and friends, grab bags, and wonderful treats for yourself!

The band’s “nut house” at 208 West 2nd Street (inside Pearl Plaza) is open on Tuesday evenings (6-7:30 pm) and Saturdays (10 am-noon) for walk-in purchases. Special order items will be taken until December 2. The nut house will be open this Friday night during the holiday stroll. The last day is Dec. 19! don’t delay – there will
    be a very limited selection the last two weeks.  If you need a gift for a co-worker, boss, pastor, friend, client, or Aunt Matilda, Koeze products make great presents! They’re also a nice gift for yourself!  Funds raised go toward music, instrument purchases and repairs, uniforms, band camp section instructors, marching show-related expenses (props, transportation), honor band registrations, summer music camps, etc.  Thank you for considering purchasing Koeze nuts and supporting the Muscatine High School band.

** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • Madison Elementary is looking for MHS students to help with our annual “Holidays Around the World” event on Wednesday, December 20th.  If you are available afternoon only, that’s okay too! Please email stephanie.zillig@mcsdonline.org if you can help us out.
  • MCSD Food Service is looking for students who would be willing to volunteer at various elementary buildings to get the students through the breakfast line. Times would be 7:40-8:05 daily. Please email Alisha Eggers at alisha.eggers@mcsdonline.org if you are interested in volunteering.
