Yearbook Orders: The last day for yearbook orders has been extended to February 23rd. Order yours today at the Attendance Center – $56.

** Daily News & Information **

  • SENIORS: Today there will be information sessions regarding the local scholarship online application. These information sessions will be the first 15 minutes of each period in the auditorium (including the first 15 minutes of lunch). Please attend whichever period works best for your schedule. Email if you have any questions or are unable to attend one of the sessions.
  • Senior Scholarship Online Application Video Tutorial: Below is the video tutorial on how to create an account and complete the Senior Scholarship Online Application.

  • Juniors: ACT Prep sessions are available the first half of lunch in the Science wing in room 12-018. Today there will be a Math session covering Geometry.
  • Attention Juniors: This Sunday, February 25th from 2-5:30 will be the second ACT practice test session. Studies have shown that the best way to prepare for the ACT is to do a full practice test ahead of time so you understand the topics covered, but also the pacing needed to complete it. Also this year the ACT will be given online, so it is even more important that you come in and do a practice test to understand the formatting. Please sign-up so we know how many to plan for. These sessions are FREE and we will also be providing pizza the second Sunday. Encourage your friends to sign up also!
  • Boys’ Track Practice starts Tuesday, Feb. 20th. Meet in the gym above the boys’ locker room by 3:40 P.M. Bring workout clothes for both indoor and outdoor workouts. If you have questions contact Coach Rusch (
  • Boys’ Basketball Awards Banquet: All players and their families are invited to the Muscatine Boys’ Basketball Awards Banquet on Tuesday, February 20th, at 6:00 pm in the Stan Howe Commons.   • Come support our MHS students traveling to Italy this summer at the Missipi Brew, (107 Iowa Ave.), on Tuesday, February 20th anytime from 5-9pm. 20% of the proceeds will support students on this international, educational experience.

  • Kickball Tournament – To bring awareness to tobacco/nicotine and Kick Butts Day 2018: Wednesday, March 21, 2018 3:30-5 pm, Muscatine High School Gym. Tournament is sponsored by Fuel the Fire and MHS Key Club. Sign-up by March 8th at the Attendance Center.

  • Hobbies and Talents Needed for Yearbook: If you have a unique hobby or talent that you think would be good for a picture in the yearbook can you email me back with your name and the hobby/talent? We are looking for something unique. Please email Ms. Brown at with your picture or any questions.
  • Superstitions and Good Luck Charms for Yearbook: We are looking for students and staff that have some odd/unique superstitions or good luck charms that would be good for a picture in the yearbook. Please email Ms. Brown at with your picture or any questions.
  • Boys’ Tennis Meeting: Coach Kiser, boys’ tennis coach, will have a tennis meeting after school on Thursday, March 1 in Room 21-030. Anyone interested in playing tennis needs to attend this meeting.
  • Boys’ tennis practice starts March 19 at 4:00pm at Weed Park. Be sure to have all of your paperwork filled out prior to the first practice. Check with Mrs. Watson in the Athletic Office.
  • Sophomores & Juniors: The Muscatine Rotary club is sponsoring a youth leadership program held at Grinnell College from July 15-20 for students in the class of 2019 and 2020.
    The cost of the program is covered by the Rotary club. We encourage your students to apply using the online link. A committee will review applicants and recommend them for participation.
  • Needed – 12 oz. 16 oz, and 2-liter clear bottles for CAPE decorating. If you have any of these bottles and are willing to donate, please wash them out, take the label off, and drop them off at MHS to Mrs. Borde in the principal’s office.
  • Carnival After Prom Extravaganza (CAPE) 2018 is looking for adult volunteers to help during the CAPE event which follows prom on April 21, 2018, at MHS (11:30-3:30am).  If you are interested, please contact Amy Fortenbacher at 410bocr@gmail.comDriver Ed information can be obtained from the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency (MBAEA) website –

** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • Volunteers for Girl Scouts: “Want to help the at risk youth in your area? Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois is looking for volunteers! We are looking for students who want to make a difference in young girls’ lives by providing them with Girl Scout opportunities they might not otherwise have. Currently we are looking for students to help at cookie booths in Muscatine and the QC area as well as Girl Scout programs. If you are interested in hearing more or signing up to volunteer please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for your area, Amy Green, at or (563 )823-9940 x302.”
  • MCC Harry Potter Festival committee is looking for volunteers on May 19th. They will need volunteers from 9 am to 6 pm. Our plan for volunteers is to divide our festival map into quadrants and divide volunteers accordingly. Areas of assistance needed will be: Some of the things we need assistance in are: greeting people, directing people where they want to go, if necessary helping bands with their stands and equipment, and running activity booths. All of these areas will be supervised by either staff members from the class, or the instructors. If interested, please contact Kayla Leming at (Staff t-shirts will be provided to all volunteers!)
  • Volunteer Camp Counselors Needed at ISU Extension & Outreach: Volunteers will assist a group of 3 – 5 youth during various day camps. May assist the instructor with setting up the camp or putting supplies away based on the type of camp. Orientation will be held in early March of 2018 and at that time the volunteers will have the opportunity to pick with days camps that they would like to assist at throughout spring break and summer.   • Juntos is in the process of organizing a Juntos series at the high school. We are looking for two students interested in earning Silver Cord or volunteer hours to provide child care for the following dates: February 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and March 1st from 5:30 – 8:00 pm.

  • MCSD Food Service is looking for students who would be willing to volunteer at various elementary buildings to get the students through the breakfast line. Times would be 7:40-8:05 daily. Please email Alisha Eggers at if you are interested in volunteering.
