Go Muskies!
- FFA Kiddie Barnyard – TODAY, Friday, May 1 – 8:15AM – 2:20PM at the Agricultural Learning Center @ 3200 Lucas St, Muscatine. Individuals wishing to attend, please plan on attending from 11:20-12:30 to avoid wait time.
- Don’t Miss It! – Giles Joslyn Memorial STRINGFEST 2015 – Friday, May 1, 2015, 7PM – MHS Auditorium. Join us for a wonderful concert that will feature string players from around the Muscatine area. Admission: Adults $7, Students $5. Tickets sold at the door. All proceeds will go towards scholarships for private music instruction, instrument repairs, and purchase of new instruments.
- We are still in need of volunteers to help with C.A.P.E. (Carnival After Prom Extravaganza) this Saturday, May 2nd. Volunteers would need to be at the school from 11:30pm–3:30am. If interested, please contact Becky Wichers at becky.wichers@mcsdonline.org or ph # 263-7005.
- Please note the following adjustment for MHS Girls Soccer:
On Friday, May 8th, Solon has replaced Ft. Madison as the varsity opponent. The game will be played at the Muscatine Soccer complex with a start time of 5:00 P.M. Following the varsity game, a JV game vs. Solon will also be played.
- MHS JV/Var Boys Tennis vs. Bettendorf has been rescheduled for Monday, May 4th. The meet will be held at Bettendorf with a 4:00 p.m. start.
- Girls’ Basketball: Open gym on Monday, May 4th from 6:30-8:00pm in the main gym.
- Model UN: Our car wash fundraiser is on Saturday, May 9th from 1:00-3:00pm at Hy-Vee Gas.
- REMINDER: Any high school boy interested in playing baseball, tryouts will be on May 4th at Tom Bruner Field. All 9th and 10th grade boys will tryout at 6:00pm. All 11th and 12th grade boy will tryout at 7:30pm. If you can’t make your allotted time slot, please contact coach Edwin Colón at edwin.colon@mcsdonline.org or 563-263-0411.
- Summer Job Opportunity: Attention students! If you are interested in earning some money this summer, please stop by the counselor’s office to pick up information about detasseling.

- We invite you to attend the 1st Annual Muskie Baseball Hit-A-Thon on May 14th at Tom Bruner Field. Your Muskie Baseball players will be performing in a HR derby similar to what you see on TV to help raise funds for the baseball program. There will be music and a live broadcast by Vintage Sound 93.1 and our own radio personality Tony Tone. There will be catering from Hy-Vee grill, as well as entertainment for all of our youth which include speed pitch and a bounce house. We also want to welcome all youth in the dugout to spend time with our players. Community members will also have the opportunity to win the following items through a raffle: an autographed picture of Chicago Cubs Anthony Rizzo, a burrito for a week for a year from Mami’s, Muskie Baseball apparel, and more….Hope to see you all on May 14th! - All volleyball players – there will be an informational meeting Thursday May 7th in the Commons from 3-4 pm. Just wanting to touch base and hand out information for the summer. All returning varsity players and this year’s sophomore class is being requested to attend to help complete summer camp information. If you have questions please contact Coach Martin.

- Color Guard – There will be a color guard meeting for all those marching guard this fall on Thursday, May 7th from 4 to 6 pm in the high school band room. If you are unable to make the meeting for any reason please contact Debbi Sulzberger at 563-506-9771 to confirm your involvement and set up a time to be measured for a uniform.
- Key Club: We will be hosting a Cardboard Overnight on Friday, May 8th to raise funds and awareness for our local homeless shelter, MCSA. Contact a Key Club member about joining us as we camp out on the turf for 12 hours. All donations go directly to MCSA. We hope to raise $1,500 – enough to run MCSA for a day!
- Seniors & Senior Parents: Jostens will be at school delivering cap and gowns on Friday, May 22nd from 10:30-2:00-pm in the library. If your student still has a balance due, please remember that all items must be paid in full in order to pick up the cap and gown. We only accept cash or money orders on Friday, but if you would like to pay by credit or debit card, they can call 1-800-JOSTENS to pay or to check if you have a balance due. We are open from 8am-7pm and we have agents that are bilingual.

Help needed at Benefit for Piper Pigsley: A benefit for Piper Pigsley, a 2 year old girl that has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia will be held on be May 17, 2015 between 12:30-3:30 at Muscatine Community Y. If you like children and activites with children we would love to have a few students help us during this event. We will have food and drinks, Gunny the Clown will be there doing balloon twist and face painting; we have a couple craft ideas for kids along with Pin the Nose on Olaf. ** Scholarship Information **
- Quad Cities Illini Club Scholarship – $500 scholarship is available to a student from the Quad City area who begins at the University of Illinois in Fall of 2015. The 2015 scholarship is open to any graduating senior or community college student who will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Fall of 2015. All applicants will be evaluated on the basis of need, community service, academic success, an message and other criteria. Due date is May 15, 2015. - First District American Legion Glenwood Long Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior who is a member, son, daughter, grandchild, brother, or sister to an American Legion or Auxiliary member. The application is available in MHS Student Services. Due date is May 1, 2015.

Children’s Cancer Connection: Scholarship values range from $500-$5,000. Applicant must be directly affected by childhood cancer and must plan to attend a 2 or 4 year university. Application and other information are available in MHS Student Services. Due date is May 29, 2015.

Nursing Schools Almanac Scholarship: Nursing Schools Almanac is proud to announce our inaugural Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. We will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:
Competition eligibility: This scholarship competition is open to all US high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.
Applicants must be in good academic standing and on track to graduate from high school at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. Only one application entry is accepted per student.
Important dates:
June 30, 2015: Submission deadline for scholarship applications is 11:59pm PT.
July 2015: Scholarship committee will meet to review all applications received.
August 2015: Winner will be notified and $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

- KWQC Broadcast Scholarship: (2) $1,000 scholarship awards are available to students who are accepted to a college and planning to enroll in broadcasting classes. Students must also reside in the KWQC viewing area. Applications are available in MHS Student Services with a postmark due date of May 8, 2015.
- Iowa Section PGA–Charlie Burkart Scholarship: $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year for 4 years). Application is available in MHS Student Services. Due Date is 6/12/2015.
