MHS Cake AuctionIt’s that time of year for the 27th Annual MHS Cake Auction, Muskie Jam is the theme. Friday, February 10th, Snow date February 11th. Girl/Boy Doubleheader basketball games vs. Bettendorf. Girls game @ 6 pm, Boys game @ 7:30 pm. There will be live cake auctions in the gym, silent auction in the Cafeteria, 50/50 Raffle, Cake and Ice Cream for Sale. Join in the fun! If you would like to bring a cake for the auction, please have cakes to MHS by 4 pm on Feb. 10th.

  • Boys Track Meeting – There will be a boy’s track meeting during enrichment in Coach Rusch’s room (22-017, old room 200) on Tuesday, January 24. The meeting will include information about the upcoming season. Please contact Coach Rusch ( if you have questions.
  • Vote for your favorite Iowa High School Book Award book! All students who participated in the IHSBA challenge and read at least two (2) books form the IHSBA list can vote for their favorite in the library or here: by Wednesday, February 1st.

  • New Scholarship Added – April 2017
  • 8th Grade Parent Night (Incoming Freshman for 2017-18) – Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 – 5:30-7 PM, MHS Auditorium, doors open at 5:00 pm – Please plan on attending this informational night. Information that will be presented includes testing and testing results (ACT Aspire), rules & expectations, graduation requirements, and Advanced Placement course information. Counselors will meet with 8th grade middle school student and their parents at CMS & WMS Feb. 27 – March 3.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) Class Parent/Student Information Meeting – Thursday, Feb. 2, 5:30-7pm, MHS Auditorium/AP Teacher’s classrooms. Learn about AP class opportunities and meet the teachers while visiting the classroom for a brief overview.
  • Course selection for the 2017-18 school year – Grade level counselors will meet with 9th – 11th grade students January 30th through February 17 for one-on-one course selection meeting.
  • Mr. Armstrong’s freshmen P.E. classes will begin swimming Tuesday, January 17th. Please bring swim attire and towel.
  • MHS Yearbook Purchase Cut-off Date – The last day to order an MHS Yearbook is February 24th. Purchase at the Attendance Center – $56.
  • New Scholarship Added – April 2017
  • Humane Society Gourmet Apples – It’s time to place your order for your Muscatine Humane Society Valentine’s Gourmet Apple(s). See attachment for more information. If you’ve never had these before, they are delicious! A great gift for anyone or treat for yourself!     MHS Sign up & payment in Principal’s Office w/ Mrs. Borde. Daffodil orders due Jan. 27, deliveries by March 8. Deliveries only made in Muscatine City Limits.
  • Girls’ Track and Field will be holding a short informational meeting on Wednesday, Jan 18 at 3:35 in Coach Falk’s room (11-010, old AA-18). Bring a friend for some snacks and info about the upcoming season. Can’t make the meeting? Send Coach Falk an email at or stop by his room.
  • MHS Baseball Open Gym – If you are considering playing baseball this summer, baseball open gym will begin Sunday, February 12th from 6-8pm in the MHS Gym.
  • WQAD 2017 My Favorite Teacher Contest – Deadline: Feb. 6, 2017 @ 5 pm. See attachment for details and application. WQAD My Favorite Teacher Contest
  • Component Recovery – Students – Please check PowerSchool to see if you have Component Recovery.  If you raise a failing grade to a passing grade by Friday, Jan. 20, you will recover the credit for that class and you will not have to retake that class (if a required class or prerequisite to another class) or a replacement class (elective) with same number of credits prior to graduating.
  • Reminder – Student Council will be opening its doors to new members in February.  Stay tuned for applications!

  • Grant Elementary is still looking for volunteers to help at the Grant Carnival on Friday, February 24. The carnival is from 5:00-7:00 pm. Volunteers need to arrive at Grant at 4:30 pm for instructions.  Please contact Jaimie Caffery, Grant principal at if you are interested.
