MHS Announcements – July 21, 2016

Go Muskies!

  • There will be No Parking at Muscatine High School in the Bonnie Drive, Cedar Street, or Maintenance (by the Shop area)  & Mulberry Elementary parking lots beginning at 5 PM on Thursday, July 20 through 1 PM on Saturday, July 23 and on Saturday, July 30th all day through 2 PM due to RAGBRAI-sponsored parking.  Students attending practices need to find alternative short-term parking for Friday, July 22 and next week practices. Short-term, up to 4 hours, curb side parking and diagonal parking in front of MHS.
    VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED IF THEY ARE NOT REGISTERED FOR RAGBRAI PARKING.
    NO OVERNIGHT PARKING IN FRONT OF MHS IS ALLOWED AT ANY TIME.
    Note: Students attending ALC and Staff working on Friday and next week should use curb-side or diagnol parking in front of MHS.
    RAGBRAI parking at MHS & Mulberry Elementary is a Muskie Boosters Fundraiser and a portion of the parking fees go back to the Muskie Boosters.

  • 2016 Muscatine RAGBRAI Maps are available by texting “BIKE” to 563-263-8600
  • Boys Golf Meeting –  Attention all boys Grades 9th thru 12th that are interested in playing fall golf.  There will be a parent/student meeting Thursday, July 28th at 6 PM at the High School Commons.  Practice will start Monday, August 8th.  Make sure you have your physical.  If you have questions please contact Coach Rivera at matt.rivera@mcsdonline.org
  • Laptop Pickup –  IT Staff will begin handing out laptops to all MHS students on Wednesday, July 20.  The pickup times for this week are listed below.
     
    Wednesday, July 20 -> 8:30am – 11:00am  and  1:30pm – 3:00pm
    Thursday, July 21 -> 8:30am – 11:00am  and  1:30pm – 3:00pm
    Friday, July 22 -> 8:30am – 11:00am  and  1:30pm – 3:00pm

    Additional pickup dates/times will be sent out next week.

  • East Campus Registration Reminder – Reminder to all parents that are registering their students for the East Campus program. East Campus is a part of Muscatine high school and all students registering for East Campus in the fall will need to register as a Muscatine high school student.
  • Back-to-School Night – August 17th, 5-7 PM –  Take time to walk your class schedule (available on PowerSchool), visit with staff and friends you haven’t seen throughout the summer, and meet the new MHS Principal, Jared Smith, and new Asst. Principal, Mark Groteluschen.

  • Fall Sports Kick-off  – August 18th, 5 – 9 PM – MHS student-athletes, marching band members, pom pon, and cheer members will be recognized during the night.  Don’t miss the Muskies Boosters Cookout starting at 5 PM (pork chop sandwiches, hotdogs, and hamburgers, chips and drink on sale). Football scrimmage will begin around 7 PM.  Purchase your Muskie spirit wear as well.  Hope to see you there – Admission is free!
  • Online Student Registration began on July 11, 2016, at 5 PM.  Go to powerschool.muscatineschools.org (no “www” in front of the URL). and sign into your PowerSchool account that was created last summer. Forgot your username and password? No worries!  You can recover them at the PowerSchool login page.

  • Muscatine High School Bands and Band Boosters will present their fifth annual  drum corps competition, ”Percussion on the Pearl,” on Friday night, August 5, at 7 p.m., at the MHS stadium. Drum corps (brass and percussion players ages 15-25) from Wisconsin, Louisiana, California, Texas, and Iowa will compete, with the goal to make it into the lineup of competitors in the World Championship held in Indianapolis.The Muskie Marching Band will preview their fall show, “Swan Lake,” before the corps begin competition.Tickets are $10 general admission and are available from MHS band students, at Hy-Vee customer service on Second Ave., ordering at www.muskiebands.org, or mailing the attached order form. Tickets will also be available at the gate.   • Muskie Stadium Seats for Sale by Muskie Booster Club –  see attachment for more information!  Muskie Stadium Seat Information
  • The Cedar Street entrance to MHS is now OPEN and is the only entrance and exit to MHS!  The Houser St. and Bonnie Dr. entrances will be closed until further notice.
  • Summer hours for the MHS Attendance Center are 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday.  Please use the Maintenance/Receiving entrance doors to enter the school located in the back of the building / across from the turf practice field or the Main Entrance Doors.
  • CAPE Committee Members Needed!  Parents – If you are interested in being a Cape Committee Chair or Co-Chair, please email Ginger Chatfield at ginger.chatfield@mcsdonline.org  In order to keep CAPE available to our students, the CAPE Chair and Co-Chair positions are very important! These positions manage the various elements of CAPE. (Food, Decorations, Games, Budget, Prizes, Security, Volunteers to name a few.)
  • Yearbooks can be picked up at the Attendance Center throughout the summer.   If you did not order a yearbook but would like one, extra copies are for sale at the Attendance Center on a first come first serve basis for $56.00
