Prom and CAPE Info: Guest forms are available in the AP office (room 12-001B). If you plan to bring a guest to Prom or CAPE that is not attending MHS, you will need to have a guest form filled out and approved before you pick up tickets. All guests must be at least a Jr./Sr. or have graduated from high school, and cannot be older than 20 years of age. REMEMBER—CAPE is FREE and you can attend even if you do not go to Prom. If you have questions please see Mrs. Chatfield in the AP office.

  • New Silver Cord/Volunteer Opportunity: Volunteers are needed for the Girls’ Track Meet – Dick Washburn/Muskie Invitational on March 22nd starting at 3:45 pm.  If interested, please contact Coaches Tim Armstrong, Rebecca Harris, or Bill Flowers.
  • March 12-16: SPRING  BREAK – NO SCHOOL
    Classes resume March 19th
  • Boys’ Soccer Practice started on March 12th! Meet on the MHS Turf at 3:30 pm! 
  • Muskie Soccer Booster Store:
    Store deadlines: March 31st is final deadline. (Those practice sets and warms ups won’t be available until after April 7th.
    There are a limited number of women’s warm up pants. The earlier you order the more likely you will be to get what you want.)
  • Model UN: Background Guides are posted on the IHSMUN website. Start drafting those position papers in preparation for Paper Night on Sunday, March 18 from 5:30-7:30 in Ms. Hansen’s room.  Background Guides –
  • Photography Contest – Muscatine McDonalds: The Muscatine McDonald’s is looking for some unique photos from Muscatine High School students, to be permanently displayed on the walls of their restaurant! Each winners name will be displayed by the image for years to come. Entries due by April 1st. See flyer for more information!

  • Jazz Ensemble T-shirts for sale: Money can be turned in to Mr. Heid or Mr. Plummer in the band room by Tuesday, March 20th. Jazz Ensemble T-shirt Order Form
  • Seniors: Jostens will be at MHS to deliver your graduation items on Thursday, March 22nd during lunch outside of Student Services.  Please remember that cash or money orders are the only forms of payments accepted on delivery day at school.  If you have any questions, please call 1-800-JOSTENS (567-8367).

  • Muscatine Girls’ track will host a home meet Thursday, March 22 beginning at 4:30. We are seeking volunteers to help with the meet, duties include finish line help, exchange zone judges, hurdle movers, result runners, field event judges. Contact Coach Armstrong,Coach Harris, or Mr. Morgan if interested. All help is greatly appreciated.
  • Disc Golf Practice will resume March 20th.
  • Chinese at MHS 2018-19 School Year: After one year of online Chinese at MHS, we are very happy to announce we have hired a terrific teacher to teach Chinese at MHS for the upcoming school year! The teacher we have hired is very excited to grow our Chinese program. She is passionate, engaging and will do a great job teaching Chinese.
    If you were involved in the Chinese program or if you have an interest in taking Chinese next year please email or speak with your grade level counselor by the end of the week.
  • Looking for high school students who: care passionately about the world and want to make it a more just and equitable place for all; believe everyone should have access to nutritious food, clean water, education, and a fair income; and are problem solvers who want to be part of the solution. The Iowa Youth Institute is a life-changing experience at Iowa State University where high school students engage with leaders and experts on critical global for security challenges, participate in hands- on science activities, and explore exciting ways to make a difference in Iowa and around the world.   • Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge (near Wapello) is currently accepting applications for our Youth Conservation Corps crew for this summer! The crew, made up of (4) 15-18 year olds, works for 8 weeks in the summer on a variety of habitat conservation, biological, and maintenance jobs. Youth Conservation Corps Info
  • Poetry Club: There will be no Poetry Club this week or next. We will resume the Thursday after Spring Break!
  • Sophomores & Juniors: The Muscatine Rotary club is sponsoring a youth leadership program held at Grinnell College from July 15-20 for students in the class of 2019 and 2020.
    The cost of the program is covered by the Rotary club. We encourage your students to apply using the online link. A committee will review applicants and recommend them for participation.
  • Interested in scheduling a college visit? Go to the website of the college/university you are interested to schedule an individual visit. Stop in the Student Services Office and see Ms. Milani if you have any questions or would like assistance.
  •  Boys’ & Girls’ Soccer Work Day (April 29th, Rain Date May 6th)   Players need to fill out this google form:

  • Kickball Tournament – To bring awareness to tobacco/nicotine and Kick Butts Day 2018: Wednesday, March 21, 2018 3:30-5 pm, Muscatine High School Gym. Tournament is sponsored by Fuel the Future and MHS Key Club. Sign-up by March 8th at the Attendance Center.

  • Boys’ tennis practice starts March 19 at 4:00pm at Weed Park. Be sure to have all of your paperwork filled out prior to the first practice. Check with Mrs. Watson in the Athletic Office.
  • Carnival After Prom Extravaganza (CAPE) 2018 is looking for adult volunteers to help during the CAPE event which follows prom on April 21, 2018, at MHS (11:30-3:30am).  If you are interested, please contact Amy Fortenbacher at 410bocr@gmail.comDriver Ed information can be obtained from the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency (MBAEA) website –

** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • Volunteers are needed for the Jefferson Carnival on Friday, April 6th from 4:30-7:30. Anyone interested in volunteering can email Sarah Manjoine at before the end of March.
  • Grant Elementary School is hosting their spring carnival on Friday, March 23rd. We are looking for volunteers to run games, hand out prizes, and more from 4:30-7:30 pm. Free dinner is provided! Please contact Jessi Freers at or 263-7005 if interested.
  • Volunteers for Girl Scouts: “Want to help the at risk youth in your area? Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois is looking for volunteers! We are looking for students who want to make a difference in young girls’ lives by providing them with Girl Scout opportunities they might not otherwise have. Currently we are looking for students to help at cookie booths in Muscatine and the QC area as well as Girl Scout programs. If you are interested in hearing more or signing up to volunteer please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for your area, Amy Green, at or (563) 823-9940 x302.
  • MCC Harry Potter Festival committee is looking for volunteers on May 19th. They will need volunteers from 9 am to 6 pm. Our plan for volunteers is to divide our festival map into quadrants and divide volunteers accordingly. Areas of assistance needed will be: Some of the things we need assistance in are: greeting people, directing people where they want to go, if necessary helping bands with their stands and equipment, and running activity booths. All of these areas will be supervised by either staff members from the class, or the instructors. If interested, please contact Kayla Leming at (Staff t-shirts will be provided to all volunteers!)
  • Volunteer Camp Counselors Needed at ISU Extension & Outreach: Volunteers will assist a group of 3 – 5 youth during various day camps. May assist the instructor with setting up the camp or putting supplies away based on the type of camp. Orientation will be held in early March of 2018 and at that time the volunteers will have the opportunity to pick with days camps that they would like to assist at throughout spring break and summer.   • MCSD Food Service is looking for students who would be willing to volunteer at various elementary buildings to get the students through the breakfast line. Times would be 7:40-8:05 daily. Please email Alisha Eggers at if you are interested in volunteering.
