  • Students taking AP Lang. and Comp. in the 2016/2017 school year need to attend an informational meeting in Mrs. Fallon’s room, room 21-022, on Wednesday, May 18th from 3:30-3:45.   • Class of 2016 – There will be a Pancake Breakfast for seniors this Friday, May 20,
    from 9-10 AM in the Commons.
  • Good luck to the Boys & Girls Track athletes at the 2016 State Track & Field Meet!

  • The library will be closed all day this Friday, May 20th for senior cap & gown pick-up.
    The library will only be available to students who are using the printer, returning books, or paying fines.
  • Girls’ Basketball – We will have our last open gym of the school year on Monday (5/16) night from 6:30-8:00pm in the main gym. Open gyms will resume for the summer on Wednesday, June 1. Please see Ms. Hansen in Room 11-024 if you need a summer schedule.
  • Students & Parents/Guardians  – Please check your child or children’s outstanding fee/fine balances online at or by contacting your school directly.  Payments can be made online by logging on with your PowerSchool information, in person at MHS or at the Board Office.  Senior balances will be finalized by the end of the business day on Wednesday, May 18th. All other balances will be finalized by the end of the day on Monday, May 30th.
  • Eliminate Week – This week Key Club will be collecting donations for Eliminate Week. Eliminate uses donations to help cure neonatal tetanus. Neonatal tetanus is the cause of many infant and mother deaths, and is caused by non-sterile delivery.  In order to eliminate this, Key Club will be collecting pennies on Monday, nickels on Tuesday, dimes on Wednesday, quarters on Thursday, and dollars on Friday (Although all change is welcome).
  • SeniorsIf you haven’t returned library items, please do ASAP. Also, a reminder that all library fines need to be taken care of before graduation.
  • Seniors – If you had a baby picture submitted for the yearbook, you can pick up the picture(s) in the Attendance Office. If you have any questions, please see Katie Brown in Room 21-035.
  • 2016 Graduates who were in Cantrell’s English 9 class should report to room 212 to pick up time capsules.
  • Seniors & Parents/Guardians of Seniors – Important reminder from the MCSD Food and Nutrition Dept. – If you received a letter from the MCSD Food and Nutrition Dept. regarding money left in your student’s food account (Seniors students only), and have not returned it, please return it by May 16th. If the letter is not returned by May 16th, we will assume that is is acceptable to donate leftover money to the MHS PTO meal fund.
  • Boy’s Track and Field Banquet – To all Boy’s Track and Field families. Please join us for a wonderful celebration of effort and accomplishments on Tuesday, May 17th, at 6:30 PM in the MHS Commons. Please bring your own table setting (Drinks/cups/napkins provided).  Freshman-Main Dish, Sophomore- Main Dish, Junior- Salad or Side Dish. Seniors-Dessert. UNIFORM HAND IN AT BANQUET 5-17 or AFTER SCHOOL WED. (5-18 or 5-25) 3:30 PM near Wrestling Room.
  • Freshman, Sophomores, and JuniorsAll library books and materials are due by Friday, May 20th.

  • Boy’s Cross-Country Meeting – To all boys interested in XC for the fall there will be a short meeting Wednesday, May 18th. Please come to Mr. Foxen’s room 11-033 in the new wing. The meeting will happen the second half of lunch 12:25PM. Important summer information will be discussed.  Please see Coach Foxen with any and all questions.

    Choreography Sessions: There are both singing and dancing components to the audition; however no previous experience is required. The music that you will perform is found at under resources and links, and the dance will be taught at any of the four choreography sessions in the choir room.   • Summer Work Opportunity – Attention students!  If you are interested in earning some money this summer, please stop by Student Services to pick up information about detasseling.
  • STARTALK grant from the National Security Agency. The grant supports high school kids to study Chinese this summer at the University of Iowa from July 5-29 to earn college credits. The grant will cover expenses of tuition, textbooks, lunches, and cultural activities. ** Scholarships **

The Rove Pest Control Scholarship – Applicants must be attending college by the Fall 2017 semester and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is open to anyone seeking a higher education.  Deadline: December 31, 2016.  Application: Only online applications will be accepted. The application can be found at:

The NROTC Scholarship is a full-ride scholarship ($180,000) to any university that has an NROTC program. Upon graduating from college, they will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, leading Marines as young 22 year old! NROTC scholarship recipients will be debt free from students loans and have a guaranteed career with starting pay and allowances of up to $60,000! Some nearby schools are Iowa State University, University of Nebraska, University of Illinois, and Marquette University. Please stop in Student Services for more information.

Children’s Cancer Connection Empower Scholarship – Applications for the fall Semester are due May 27, 2016. American Legion Auxiliary – 2016 Iowa Department Merit Award Application.  Deadline is June 1, 2016.  American Legion Auxiliary Application

Iowa Section Professional Golfers’ Association, the Iowa PGA Foundation offers an annual scholarship opportunity in memory on one of its members – Charlie Burkart. This scholarship is open to any graduating senior within our section boundaries and any graduating student of an Iowa high school. It is awarded every year to one recipient. The winner will receive $1000 each year of full-time attendance for four years at a college or university of their choice. Deadline is June 15, 2016.
PGA Golf Scholarship

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship:  Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:  A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics & A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of health care. This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue a college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.
