• Looking for MHS Sports Programs from the 2014-spring and fall seasons, or the 2015-spring, fall, and summer seasons?  They’re free!  If interested, please see Mrs. Watson in the AD’s office.
• Boys & Girls Swim Team Meeting – There will be a Boys & Girls Swim Team meeting on Wed., May 4 @ 6:30 AM at the MHS pool.  Boys and girls interested in Swim Team next year should attend.  Please bring a 3-ring notebook. – Coach Anderson
• Adopt-a-Highway event scheduled for May 3rd for Jeff Schmelzer’s Work Study has been postponed.
• Baseball Tryouts will begin Monday, May 2nd for anyone interested in playing baseball this year.  Freshmen and sophomores will have tryouts beginning at 4pm at Tom Bruner Field. Varsity tryouts will follow at 5pm – VARSITY TRYOUT TIME HAS BEEN MOVED UP TO 5 PM.

• STEM: Growing the Future Internship (Summer) – Applications due by May 2, 2016.
  Monsanto will be conducting numerous corn field trials this summer to determine if plant height can be modulated to improve pollination efficiencies and increase yield.  Students will learn about plant physiology, the production of hybrid corn along with challenges related to increasing production.  To support the trials we are looking for high achieving and actively engaged high school students to help support the study.  Students will be gathering phenotype data for the screening trials.  If successful, the screening trials will be scaled up in 2017 with eventual deployment across North America.  Students will have interactions with professionals in the following disciplines: Engineering, Genetics, Agronomy, Plant Physiology, Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality and Industrial Hygiene.

  Please check the lists to see if you are on the appropriate list before May 4th, 2016.

  Qualifications for Academic Awards this year are as follows:
  Sophomore who has 3 consecutive semesters of 3.0 GPA and above.
  Junior who has 5 consecutive semesters of 3.0 GPA and above.
  Senior who has 7 consecutive semesters of 3.0 GPA and above.
  
  Students listed will be recognized at the Academic Awards Assembly Thursday, May 12th @ 9:00 AM
  in the gym. Parents are also invited to the Awards Assembly.

• Summer Work Opportunity – Attention students!  If you are interested in earning some money this summer, please stop by Student Services to pick up information about detasseling.
• CAPE Committee Members needed for next year.  We have several CAPE committee member positions that need to be filled for next year — Chair and Co-chair, Treasurer, Games…and possibly a couple more.  This would ensure that CAPE plans for next year would not be interrupted or delayed.  We have at least 5 parents of Seniors that want to step down and allow others to take over their positions.  If interested, please contact Ginger Chatfield at ginger.chatfield@mcsdonline
• Muskie Booster Members Needed!  The Muskie Boosters are currently recruiting new board members for the 2016-2017 Board.  Board members help with special events like Fall kick-off, Cake Auction, etc. also helping with concession volunteers.  The Muskie Boosters support all MHS sports, activities, clubs, etc raising funds and helping keep the activities/sports going. • 4th Annual MCSD Race for Schools  in on May 7, 2016.  Registration forms are available at the Attendance Office.
• STARTALK grant from the National Security Agency. The grant supports high school kids to study Chinese this summer at the University of Iowa from July 5-29 to earn college credits. The grant will cover expenses of tuition, textbooks, lunches, and cultural activities. American Legion Auxiliary – 2016 Iowa Department Merit Award Application.  Deadline is June 1, 2016.  American Legion Auxiliary Application

Iowa Section Professional Golfers’ Association, the Iowa PGA Foundation offers an annual scholarship opportunity in memory on one of its members – Charlie Burkart. This scholarship is open to any graduating senior within our section boundaries and any graduating student of an Iowa high school. It is awarded every year to one recipient. The winner will receive $1000 each year of full-time attendance for four years at a college or university of their choice. Deadline is June 15, 2016.  PGA Golf Scholarship

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship:  Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:  A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics & A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of health care. This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue a college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship: Must be of Protestant Faith, resident of Iowa, and will attend the University of Iowa full-time in the Fall of 2016.  The scholarship award is $800.  The application is only available in MHS Student Services.  Application deadline: May 2, 2016.

Midwest Technical Institute Scholarship Program: Must plan to attend MTI in Fall of 2016.
