  • Girls’ Basketball: Open gym next week is on Monday (6:30-8:00pm) and Thursday (5:30-7:00pm) in the main gym.
  • FCA: Lunch meeting in Ms. Hansen’s room on Monday at noon! We’ll finish up our series on Ruth, enjoy some pizza, and talk about the year-end gathering.
  • 2nd Annual Muskie Baseball Hit-A-Thon – Come out to Tom Bruner Field on Friday, May 13th for a night of fun and to kick-off the 2016 Muskie Baseball season. Gates open at 4pm with a Muskie Alum HR derby beginning around 7pm. There will be a speed pitch, autographed Muskie Baseball bat, raffle for Muskie Baseball apparel, a burrito for a year from Mami’s Authentic, Major League Baseball tickets, White Sox autographed baseball, TAT 2 Bats and more.
  • Eliminate Week – Next week Key Club will be collecting donations for Eliminate Week. Eliminate uses donations to help cure neonatal tetanus. Neonatal tetanus is the cause of many infant and mother deaths, and is caused by non sterile delivery.  In order to eliminate this, Key Club will be collecting pennies on Monday, nickels on Tuesday, dimes on Wednesday, quarters on Thursday, and dollars on Friday (Although all change is welcome).

  • Muscatine FFA Plant Sale at the MHS Greenhouse:  May 5-6, May 7th, May 12-13, May 19-20,  Thursdays and Fridays 7:30 AM – 6 PM, Saturday, May 7th 8 AM – 10 AM.  See attachment for more information. 2016 FFA Plant Sale

  • 4th Annual MCSD Race for Schools  in on May 7, 2016.  Registration forms are available at the Attendance Office.
  • The MHS Bands will hold their final concert of the school year on Tuesday, May 10th, at the Muscatine High School Auditorium, at 7:30 PM.  The concert will be the final performance by the senior band members, and will include two featured (secret) guest conductors on the program.  Admission will be $4/adult, $2/student.  $10/family.  All passes accepted.  Please join MHS Bands for the final concert of 2016!
  • Seniors & Parents/Guardians of Seniors – An important reminder from the MCSD Food and Nutrition Dept. – If you received a letter from the MCSD Food and Nutrition Dept. regarding money left in your student’s food account (Seniors students only), and have not returned it, please return it by May 16th. If the letter is not returned by May 16th, we will assume that is is acceptable to donate leftover money to the MHS PTO meal fund.
  • Girls Golf on May 12 vs. Assumption has been moved from Municipal Golf Course in Muscatine. It will now be played at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport at 1pm.
  • Seniors – All Silver Cord hours need to be turned in to Mrs. Anderson by May 6th, 2016.
  • Academic Awards Assembly – Thursday, May 12th @ 9:00 AM in the gym. Parents are invited to attend the Awards Assembly.
  • High School Softball – If you are interested in playing softball this year, there will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, May 4th during lunch in room 11-022. If you have questions see Coach Stoltzfus.
  • High School Softball Tryouts begin next week, Monday, May 9th through Thursday, May 12 at Kent Stein Field #4 from 4-6pm. If you have questions please see Coach Stoltzfus.
  • SeniorsAll library books and materials are due by Tuesday, May 10th. If you need to keep a book longer for a class assignment, please contact Mrs. Keltner. Also, a reminder that all library fines need to be taken care of before graduation.

  • Seniors – If you had a baby picture submitted for the yearbook, you can pick up the picture(s) in the Attendance Office starting today. If you have any questions, please see Katie Brown in Room 21-035.

  • Looking for MHS Sports Programs from the 2014-spring and fall seasons, or the 2015-spring, fall, and summer seasons?  They’re free!  If interested, please see Mrs. Watson in the AD’s office.
  • 2016 Graduates who were in Cantrell’s English 9 class should report to room 212 to pick up time capsules.
  • Volleyball Information – All girls that intend on participating in volleyball this year, the Spring/Summer schedule is out and available to be picked up in the AD’s office – see Mrs. Watson. If you have any questions please contact Coach Martin.

  • All students interested in the Work-Based Learning Manufacturing Program need to have applications with references completed and turned in to Mr. Kitzmann no later than Friday, May 13th.
  • Summer Work Opportunity – Attention students!  If you are interested in earning some money this summer, please stop by Student Services to pick up information about detasseling.
  • CAPE Committee Members needed for next year.  We have several CAPE committee member positions that need to be filled for next year — Chair and Co-chair, Treasurer, Games…and possibly a couple more.  This would ensure that CAPE plans for next year would not be interrupted or delayed.  We have at least 5 parents of Seniors that want to step down and allow others to take over their positions.  If interested, please contact Ginger Chatfield at
  • Muskie Booster Members Needed!  The Muskie Boosters are currently recruiting new board members for the 2016-2017 Board.  Board members help with special events like Fall kick-off, Cake Auction, etc. also helping with concession volunteers.  The Muskie Boosters support all MHS sports, activities, clubs, etc raising funds and helping keep the activities/sports going.   • STARTALK grant from the National Security Agency. The grant supports high school kids to study Chinese this summer at the University of Iowa from July 5-29 to earn college credits. The grant will cover expenses of tuition, textbooks, lunches, and cultural activities.   • Students are needed to help at the Washington Elementary Community Celebration/Open House on Thursday, May 19th from 4:30 – 7:30PM.  If interested, please contact Brian Walthart at brian.walthart@mcsdonline or by phone at 563-263-9135.
  • Two students are needed to rearrange books in the Homeschool Office Library at the School Board Office.  If you like to rearrange and organize things, this would be a perfect fit for you!  Four (4) Silver Cord hours are available per student.  If interested, please call the School Board Office at 563-263-7223 and ask for Gina or Kat.

** Scholarships **

The Rove Pest Control Scholarship – Applicants must be attending college by the Fall 2017 semester and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is open to anyone seeking a higher education.  Deadline: December 31, 2016.  Application: Only online applications will be accepted. The application can be found at:

The NROTC Scholarship is a full-ride scholarship ($180,000) to any university that has an NROTC program. Upon graduating from college, they will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, leading Marines as young 22 year old! NROTC scholarship recipients will be debt free from students loans and have a guaranteed career with starting pay and allowances of up to $60,000! Some nearby schools are Iowa State University, University of Nebraska, University of Illinois, and Marquette University. Please stop in Student Services for more information.

Children’s Cancer Connection Empower Scholarship – Applications for the fall Semester are due May 27, 2016. KWQC Broadcast ScholarshipThey are offering (2)$1000 scholarships. Must live in the KWQC viewing area and plan on enrolling in broadcasting classes. Deadline is May 6, 2016. Pick up an application is in student services.

American Legion Auxiliary – 2016 Iowa Department Merit Award Application.  Deadline is June 1, 2016.  American Legion Auxiliary Application

Iowa Section Professional Golfers’ Association, the Iowa PGA Foundation offers an annual scholarship opportunity in memory on one of its members – Charlie Burkart. This scholarship is open to any graduating senior within our section boundaries and any graduating student of an Iowa high school. It is awarded every year to one recipient. The winner will receive $1000 each year of full-time attendance for four years at a college or university of their choice. Deadline is June 15, 2016.  PGA Golf Scholarship

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship:  Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:  A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics & A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of health care. This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue a college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.
