- Juniors: Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award:
The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award is a $5,000 scholarship program for Iowa high school juniors. The program annually identifies and honors up to 15 Iowa high school juniors who propose and then accomplish a project of their own choosing and design. Grades, test scores, essays and financial need are not evaluated. The next application deadline for the Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award is March 31, 2015. To apply, students must be juniors in an Iowa high school or home schooled program in the spring of 2015, with a high school graduation date of spring, 2016. First District American Legion Glenwood Long Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior who is a member, son, daughter, grandchild, brother, or sister to an American Legion or Auxiliary member. The application is available in MHS Student Services. Due date is May 1, 2015.

Leo H. Grether Memorial Scholarship: IHSMA is offering a $2,500 scholarship to students enrolling in college as a vocal music education major. Other criteria apply. See application and other information in MHS Student services. Due date is April 15, 2015.

Children’s Cancer Connection: Scholarship values range from $500-$5,000. Applicant must be directly affected by childhood cancer and must plan to attend a 2 or 4 year university. Application and other information are available in MHS Student Services. Due date is May 29, 2015.

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) (Rock Island Post) Due April 1st: The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Rock Island Post, has a scholarship trust fund to encourage and support talented students in their pursuit of careers in engineering and the physical sciences. For 2015, SAME is offering a combination of one-year and four-year scholarships to qualified students who are pursuing a baccalaureate degree in these fields.
One-year scholarships will be awarded at the $1,000 level to a combination of graduating high school seniors and student members of the University of Iowa SAME Student Post. SAME will award the scholarships to the students who best fit the criteria (download the application below). In selecting scholarship recipients, graduating high school seniors and University of Iowa SAME Student Post members will be ranked separately.
Four-year scholarships will be awarded at the $4,000 level ($1,000 per year for four years) to graduating high school seniors. The Post will award the scholarships to high school seniors who best fit the criteria. The benefits to these scholarships include sponsorship to SAME and future mentor connections that can be invaluable to the student. These scholarships are offered to graduating seniors from several local high schools in the Quad Cities Area.
The Rock Island Post shall determine the scholarship recipients in April based on applications postmarked by April 1, 2015. Scholarships will be awarded at a SAME meeting, or at the school if time permits. - Nursing Schools Almanac Scholarship: Nursing Schools Almanac is proud to announce our inaugural Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. We will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:
Competition eligibility: This scholarship competition is open to all US high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.
Applicants must be in good academic standing and on track to graduate from high school at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. Only one application entry is accepted per student.
Important dates:
June 30, 2015: Submission deadline for scholarship applications is 11:59pm PT.
July 2015: Scholarship committee will meet to review all applications received.
August 2015: Winner will be notified and $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

- KWQC Broadcast Scholarship: (2) $1,000 scholarship awards are available to students who are accepted to a college and planning to enroll in broadcasting classes. Students must also reside in the KWQC viewing area. Applications are available in MHS Student Services with a postmark due date of May 8, 2015.
- ASHRAE Scholarship: ASHRAE scholarships are designed to encourage and assist heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration education through the granting of a scholarship at the undergraduate level. The program also serves the public interest in aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers or technicians in the HVAC and/or refrigeration field.
ASHRAE Scholarships are available to students enrolled in any school provided the curriculum in which the student is enrolled is accredited by an agency recognized by ASHRAE and the student is pursuing a course of study which has traditionally been a preparatory curriculum for the profession of HVAC and/or refrigeration.
Basic criteria on which all scholarships are granted are as follows:
Prior academic performance – A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Recommendations from instructors and references.
Character, involvement in other activities and leadership ability.
Potential service to the HVAC and/or refrigeration profession, and involvement in ASHRAE chapter or student branch activities.
Applications shall be postmarked no later than April 15, 2015. The following data must be submitted:
Completed and signed application form.
A letter of recommendation from Professor or Faculty Advisor.
Two or more additional letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with applicant’s character, accomplishments and likelihood of success in the HVAC and/or refrigeration industry.
Applicants will be notified of the Selection Committee’s decision by April 24, 2015. The winner will be invited to attend the Chapter’s monthly meeting on April 30, 2015 to accept the scholarship.
