  • Parent/Teacher Walk-in Conferences
    Monday, Oct. 24 – 4:00 – 7:15 PM
    Wednesday, Oct. 26 – 4:00 – 7:15 PM
    Thursday, Oct. 27 – 1:45 – 3:45 PM (2-Hour Early Out)
  • New this year at Parent Teacher Conferences – A complimentary meal for parents will be served in the MHS Cafeteria on Monday, Oct. 24th from 4:00 – 7:15 PM (or until food is gone).   • SOAP will meet this week from 7:30-9:00 PM at 2702 Surrey Court. Come join us! Everyone is welcome.
  • AKOP – There will be no AKOP meeting this afternoon.
  • Model UN – Students planning to attend the Des Moines conference (or on the wait list) should come to a brief meeting in Ms. Hansen’s room on Thursday, October 13th at 12:30pm. You will get an itinerary for the trip and parent permission form.
  • FCA – We will meet today (Wed, Oct 12) over the lunch hour in room 11-037. Join us for pizza!
  • New Silver Cord Opportunity – See Silver Cord Section below.
  • Classes of 2019 & 2020 – Make sure to respond to the ASPIRE Test Lunch Options survey sent out by Ms. Anderson & Mr. Welsch as soon as possible. If you DO NOT respond to this survey, a school sack lunch will be ordered for you and your account will be charged. Free and Reduced purchases ARE allowed. Class of 2020 test date is Oct. 25. Class of 2019 test date is Oct. 26.
  • Boys’ and Girls’ Bowling Informational Meeting – Friday, Oct. 21st at from 3:30 – 4:00 PM in the Commons. If you are interested in the MHS bowling program, please attend this meeting!
  • Girls’ Basketball – There will be NO open gym this week due to home volleyball games on Monday and Thursday.
  • Muskie Library is celebrating Teens Read Week — stop in the library to check out a display of our favorite teen novels and join the Teens Read Week Challenge through Musser Public Library.
  • The MHS Cheer Program will be holding cheerleading tryouts for winter basketball & wrestling cheer. Practices will be 10/24 from 5-7 pm in the girls’ side upper gym and 10/27 from 5-7 pm in the commons. Tryouts will be October 29th from 9 am to 12 pm in the MHS Gym. Tryout packets will be available at the attendance office on October 10th. Any girls and boys, with a cheer, dance, and/or tumbling background, in any grade, are encouraged to tryout!   • Spring/Summer Yearbook Inserts are available at the Attendance Center for those that purchased an MHS Yearbook last year.

    This week’s tip is about getting help with the FAFSA form through FAFSA Ready Iowa or an ICAN center and is brought to you by the Greater Des Moines Partnership.

  • Fall Wrestling Club will have Open Mat workouts in wrestling room on Sundays from 5-6 pm and Tuesdays from 7-8pm.

  • Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards – Students must be in grades 9-12. Deadline to submit entries to local VFW Auxiliary is March 31, 2017. ** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department has an opportunity for several students to receive Silver Cord hours by volunteering to help at the Fall Festival on Saturday, October 22 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Muscatine Mall. Please contact Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department at 563-263-0241 or at parksoffice@muscatineiowa.gov
  • Salvation Army is in need of bell ringers during their Red Kettle Campaign. Bell ringing begins on Nov. 18 through Dec. 24. Inside and outside sites are available. If interested or for more information, please contact Sissy at 563-263-8272.
  • Volunteers Needed – Pearl Valley of Muscatine is looking for volunteers for their Fall Festival on October 14th from 5-7 PM. We need volunteers to man our games (football toss, ring toss, gone fishing, Plinko), face painting and monitor the Bouncy House.  The event will take place at 2002 Cedar St. in Muscatine. If interested, please contact Jina Hernandez, Nissa Fox, or Amy Graham at 563-264-2023 or email jhernandez@pearlvalleyrehab.com

  • Grant Elementary is looking for volunteers for the Grant School Family Reading/Tailgating Night on Friday, October 14 from 4:30-7:00 pm in the Grant School Parking Lot.  Help is needed with Face Painting for the Muskie football game or to help serving food or cleaning up. If interested, please contact Gina Schliesman at gina.schliesman@mcsdonline.org
  • Jefferson Elementary is looking for volunteers for their Clifford the Big Red Dog Family Reading Night on Thursday, October 13th from 3-5pm. Students would run the book walk and/or craft station. Please contact Stephanie Zillig at stephanie.zillig@mcsdonline.org if interested.
  • Jefferson Elementary is looking for volunteers for their Build It Family Night with the Bettendorf Family Museum on Wednesday, October 19th from 5-7pm. Students would volunteer at a station to build with legos, kinex, or another material. Please contact Stephanie Zillig at stephanie.zillig@mcsdonline.org if interested.
