• MHS Parent Teacher Conferences will be held virtually using Google Meet or via phone conference on:
  • Monday, Oct. 19 from 4-7pm

    Please watch for an MHS Communication and an email from your student’s teacher(s) next week to sign up for a 15-minute virtual/phone conference and for more information regarding Parent Teacher Conferences.
• REMINDER: Senior Students & Families: MHS and the Iowa College Access Network will be hosting a FAFSA Completion event on Monday, October 12th from 3-7:00 pm in the Student Services Office. If you would like to schedule an appointment to receive assistance filing your FAFSA, please call 263-6141 ext. 1120.
• REMINDER: Juniors & Sophomores: If you are planning on taking the PSAT exam on October 14th, please make sure you have paid the $17 exam fee by October 13th at the Attendance Center. After you have registered, Student Services will notify you of a time to come and pick up your PSAT study guide There are forty (40) tests available to juniors and ten (10) available for sophomores who wish to take it as practice. The test spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-served (with payment) basis.

• Senior Pictures Submissions for the Yearbook – Due Friday, November 13th, 2020
  Senior pictures will only be accepted by submitting them to the Josten’s website.
  If your photographer wants to submit your picture for you, it is up to you to talk to the photographer and tell them the process. Photos received after this date cannot be guaranteed a place in the Yearbook. If a senior picture is not provided, the school picture will be used.
  To submit your picture, follow these steps:

• Seniors: MHS is looking for a student or two who would be interested in working with their peers on completing college enrollment steps. This is a paid position offered to a student who will be 17 upon graduation and plans to attend college next fall.   AmeriCorps Student Leader Position    Please contact Mrs. Hawkins for more information.
• 10th Grade Students/Families: Jostens has mailed home a Class Ring Design Packet to each 10th grade student. Orders are due online or by dropping off completed order forms to the MHS Student Services office by October 20th.  Don’t miss out on the tradition or on your free gift with purchase. • Silver Cord Opportunity: The Food & Nutrition Department is providing a free meal pick up service at Central Middle School on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday for families in our community. We need help packing meals and carrying boxes and bags to cars.  Please email schoolmeals@mcsdonline.org for details.
• Carnival After Prom Extravaganza (CAPE) Committee Chairs/Co-Chairs Needed: We are looking for several parents to fill out our CAPE Committee for this year. Being on the committee requires a commitment of a few meetings, usually in the winter/spring, the day and night of prom, and some extra hours of work on your own getting community support, advertising, shopping for prizes, etc. There are past and present committee members who will help train anyone new, so you are not on your own! You can also recruit friends to help with your area. We have an urgent need for committee chairs this year.
  The following positions need to be filled in order for CAPE to happen this year:
  • CAPE CHAIR or CO-CHAIRS 
  • CAPE letter to businesses and parents
  • Large Prizes
  • Publicity
  • Food

Once again, if we don’t have parent volunteers, our students won’t have CAPE!

• REMINDER: Students need to log in by 9am in order to be counted Present for the day.  If you log in after 9am, an automated call will go out to your parent/guardian that you are Not Present.  In order to get this cleared, a parent/guardian must contact MHS Attendance at 563-263-6616 to excuse your absence.
• Seniors:  If you haven’t registered to vote, here is a resource for you to register online. Note: You must be 18 years of age by Nov. 3, 2020 in order to register and vote in the Nov. 3rd election. Visit: https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/voterinformation/voterregistration.html  (look for the “box” for Online Voter Registration).  Simply follow the steps to get registered to vote.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Acord in Rm 11-030.
• Make-up Picture Day will be on November 10th for all students – Virtual & Hybrid. (If this is not your scheduled day to attend, you can still come in and get your picture taken.)

• 2019-20 Yearbooks: If you purchased a 2019-20 yearbook, you can pick it up at the Attendance Center.
• Did you or someone you know attend Muscatine High School during the 2012 through 2015 school years? If so, this is your chance to purchase a yearbook that reflects those school years and memories! Each yearbook is $20 until sold out. All proceeds go back into the Yearbook Club to purchase new equipment and expand the program for students. To purchase, call the Activities Office at Muscatine High School at (563) 263-6141 and ask for Mindy.

• Use the BookDash Order Form to request books & get more information from the BookDash Flyer. 
• Vehicle Registration Form/Parking Tags: If you are a new driver to MHS and do not have an MHS Parking Tag, you will need to pick up & complete a Vehicle Registration Form. Stop in Student Services during the first week of school to pick up the form or print out and return completed Vehicle Registration Form during the first week of school.  Students that have a parking tag from last year will continue to use that parking tag. If you no longer have the parking tag, please stop in the Student Services office.

** Silver Cord Opportunities/Volunteer Opportunities **

• Silver Cord Program:  Students recording hours of volunteer service during their years at MHS will be awarded a Silver Cord to wear at graduation. In order for volunteer hours to count towards a Silver Cord, students must complete the online form to verify. Silver Cord Form
  Service qualifies for Silver Cord recognition if:
  • The student is not paid for the service
  • The student does not receive credit for the service.
  • The service is not for the purpose of fundraising for a group/activity/team that the student participates in.
    *140 hours are required for students in the Class of 2021, 2022 and 2023.
    *160 hours are required for students graduating in the Class of 2024.

• Show your Muskie Spirit with a Driveway M. The Muskie Pom Squad will be painting Driveway M‘s this summer and early fall. A Driveway M is a great way to show your Muskie Spirit to everyone!
