Go Muskies!
- Seniors: Reminder – Ad for Grads for the yearbook are due TODAY, October 2. Everything needs to be turned in at the same time.
- The HS Library is working with Musser Public Library on their Teen Reading Challenge. Between October 4th-October 24, students in grades 6-12 are encouraged to keep track of how many minutes they have read. Reading Logs are due October 29th to the HS Library OR Musser Public Library. Students who read at least 250 minutes will be invited to the Teen Reading Challenge Party at the Moline Public Library on Friday, October 30th (Musser will provide free bus transportation). Students who read 500+ minutes are eligible to win prizes including a $15 gift cards to area businesses. Pick up a Teen Reading Challenge log in the High School Library or at Musser Public Library.
- Music Club will hold their first meeting on October 7. Meet at the Choir Room door at 12:25PM.

- Tickets for the Homecoming dance go on sale today until next Friday, October 9th. They can be purchased before school, during lunch and after school in front of Students Services. Homecoming T-shirts are not on sale yet. We expect them to arrive on Friday. Please see the list of Homecoming Spirit Days listed at the end of announcements. Go Muskies!
- Homecoming Dance Permission slips for guests can be picked up in the Asst. Principal’s Office — see Mrs. Chatfield. These need to be returned by October 7.
- Intramural sign up forms are outside the Activities Office. (This is for activities taking place during lunchtime for those that qualify.) Detailed information is on the form and will be sent to team captains.
- If you purchased LifeTouch pictures, please pick them up in Student Services.
- Visit the Muskie Boosters website to see event pictures, buy Muskie apparel and get your admission punch cards. Be sure to check out the list of our supporters too. Go Muskies!

Oct. 9th – Muskie Spirit Day (Purple and Gold)October8th – Homecoming Parade/Grill-out/Coronation. The Grill-out will be from 5:00 – 7:00PM, with Parade starting at 6:00PM at Grant Elementary and ending at the High School. Coronation starts at 7:00PM in the high school gym.
October 9th – Pep Rally at 2:40PM in high school gym.
October 9th – Homecoming Game: Muscatine Muskies vs Ottumwa Bulldogs. JV begins at 5:00PM

- Seniors: Senior March will take place on Oct. 9th from 12-2. Pick up your permission slip in Student Services. Cost is $5.
- Chemistry Olympiad – There will be a meeting on October 7 at 12:20 for anyone interested in Chemistry Olympiad: a contest sponsored by the American Chemical Society. The meeting is in the auditorium, so please finish lunch before:no food and drinks allowed in the auditorium. For more information, please contact Mrs. Kramer.
- S.O.A.P. – September is gone! Come begin October with S.O.A.P. We meet this week on Thursday at 3220 Tipton Road at 7:30. Bring a friend and join us.
- NEW Disc Golf Club: A meeting/practice will take place October 6th at 4:00 for the MHS Disc Golf Club. Please meet at the tennis courts shelter. Practice ends at 5:15. Golf Discs will be provided if you don’t have your own. Any questions contact Scott Harmon: scott.harmon@mcsdonline.org

- Eagle Scout Project
When: Saturday, October 3rd 9:00 AM
Where: Deep Lakes Park
What: Constructing and placing fish habitats.
Why: The conservation board is introducing red-eared sunfish to the lakes, and there isn’t enough natural habitat. Questions? Contact Kevin Dirth at (563)-264-3593- Washington School is in need of volunteers to help with their Family Gathering. Volunteers will be helping students read and then choose a book they can take home.
Thursday, October 15th from 3:45 – 6:00 at Washington Elementary. ContactAmanda.mckillip@mcsdonline.org if you are interested.- The Juntos program is looking for 4-5 students who would be interested in providing child care to the siblings of students participating in the program. Juntos runs for five Sunday evenings from 4-6:30 starting October 4th. Please see Mrs. Hawkins (Guidance Office in Student Services) if you are interested in volunteering.

- Senior Resources is looking for dependable, hardworking Chore Workers* to provide lawn care and/or snow removal services for Seniors. Positions open immediately. $11 per hour!! National Scholarship Search Websites:
Horatio Alger Scholarship: Must demonstrate financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required). Must be involved in co-curricular activities and community service activities. Must display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Must be a US Citizen. Scholarships range from $7,000-$22,000. The application is available at www.scholars.horatioalger.org Application deadline: October 25, 2015.
Hagan Scholarship: Must have 3.5 GPA or Higher. Must have 23 on the ACT or higher. Other eligibility requirements are on the website.
The scholarship award ranges from $1,000-$40,000. The average disbursement is $24,000. This scholarship is only available in 10 states, including Iowa. The application and more information is available at www.hsfmo.org Application deadline: November 15, 2015.Jerry Woods/Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) Scholarship: Must be enrolling in the first year at an Iowa community college or tech school building trades program including concrete technology and practice. Must be a resident of Iowa. Scholarship is $2,500 per year for 2 years.

Application deadline: November 30, 2015.Young Entrepreneur Foundation Awards: Must have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative. Must be a graduating senior that owns/operates his/her own small business. Must plan to attend a 2 year, 4 year or vocational school. Scholarships/awards range from $2000-$15,000
The application is available at www.NFIB.com/YEA Application deadline: December 18, 2016.Iowa Newspaper Foundation: Must be preparing for a newspaper career. A total of 9 scholarships, all available with ONE application. Total awards will be approximately $6,700. The application is available at www.INAnews.com Application deadline: February 12, 2016.
Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship: Must be of Protestant Faith, resident of Iowa, and will attend the University of Iowa full time in the Fall of 2016. The scholarship award is $800. The application is only available in MHS Student Services. Application deadline: May 2, 2016.
Midwest Technical Institute Scholarship Program: Must plan to attend MTI in Fall of 2016.
