** Daily News & Information **

  • Homecoming T-shirts Are In!  If you ordered a Homecoming t-shirt, you can pick it up at the Attendance Center.
  • Pep Assembly:  Friday, Sept. 13 @ 2:45pm in the MHS gym.
  • Sept 11: 2-hr Early Dismissal @ 1:30pm
  • MHS CAR SMASH after the Pep Assembly on Friday, Sept. 13. Car Smash will take place across from the stadium. $1 for one hit, $2 for 3 hits. 40% of the proceeds will go to the 4Oceans Project.
  • PIE A TEACHER FUNDRAISER: Donate money into a teachers bucket and get a chance to win a FREE Homecoming Ticket! The teacher with the most $ gets pied on Friday at the Pep Assembly. Donate before/after school & Muskie Time in front of Student Services next to Homecoming ticket sales.  40% of the proceeds will go to the 4Oceans Project.
  • Juniors: Muscatine Community College will be hosting their annual College Fair on Thursday, September 12th, 2019 from 9:30am-10:30am and 10:30am-11:30am at Calvary Church. You can attend either time slot. College admissions representatives from 60 schools in Iowa and surrounding states will be in attendance. You will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with college admissions representatives to learn more about your school/program of interest. Some of the common topics of discussion include:
    • Financial aid/scholarships
    • Application process, College majors that are offered at the university/college
    • Admissions requirements (I would suggest knowing your current cumulative g.p.a)
    • Important deadlines

We will be taking a bus. We have room to take 20 more students on the bus so it’s on a first come, first serve basis. The bus will leave at 10:15am and be back at 11:30am. We will excuse the students who ride on the bus. You are also welcome to drive yourself. If you drive yourself, you will need to be excused by your parents.

  • Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest: Entries due March 31, 2020.  See attachment for details. Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest Info
  • VFW Scout of the Year Program: Entries due March 1, 2020. Annually, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States awards three individual who are: Eagle Scouts, Girl Scout Gold Award recipients, Venture Summit Award recipients and/or Sea Scout Quartermasters who have risen above their peers in exemplifying the qualities of that rank.  See attachment for program details.

  • Voice of Democracy Program: 2019-2020 Theme “What Makes America Great”.  Student Entry Deadline: October 31, 2019. Patriotic Audio Essay Competition Grand Prize: $30,000 Award. See attachment for details.  Voice of Democracy Program Info
  • Students: Homecoming ballots were emailed to all students by Student Council Advisor Rachel Fallon, please check your email and vote for homecoming king and queen.
    Voting closes Wednesday @ 4pm.
  • Girls’ Basketball: No open gym on Thursday due to Homecoming activities.
  • Boys’ Basketball: Any boy grades 9-12 interested in playing basketball this winter please contact Coach Windham, or Room 23-007 in the Business/Foreign Language wing.
  • Need a dress, shirt/pants or shoes for Homecoming?  There is a clothes rack across from the Attendance Center for you to check out.  All items are FREE — see Mrs. Borde in the principal’s office with any questions.
  • There is a new club this year called Poetry Out Loud. It is a club/contest in which students will study, memorize and recite poetry in a competitive environment with a chance to move on to state and national competitions. Any student who likes poetry and/or theater, and thinks Poetry Out Loud sounds like fun–Join the club by contacting your English teacher or Mr. Gehret in room 11-009 for more information.
  • Seniors and Parents/Guardians of Seniors: Baby Ads for the yearbook need to be submitted to Ms. Brown by turning in the form, payment, and picture at the Attendance Center, mailed to the school (Attn: Katie Brown), or dropped off in Ms. Brown’s room (21-035). This form will be mailed home, linked in this email, and has been emailed to all seniors.
  • Senior Photos are due November 15th and need to be uploaded to the yearbook website directly. Please refer to the Senior Photos link/form for instructions. This form will be mailed home, linked in this email, and has been emailed to all seniors.
  • Silver Cord Form- Google Form: The Silver Cord Form is now a google form that you submit online.  Silver Cord Form link
  • Breakfast starts at 7:30am and runs until 8:15am and is available in the Cafeteria.

  • Homecoming Week is September 9th-13th Our theme this year is “Disney.”
    • Monday: Monster University Day (Wear your favorite University/College apparel)
      (Remember this is also Picture Day.)
    • Tuesday: Inside Out Day 
      • Seniors: Yellow (Happiness)
      • Juniors: Blue (Sadness)
      • Sophomore: Anger (Red)
      • Freshman: Disgust (Green)
      • Teachers: Fear (Purple)
    • Wednesday: Disney Duo Day (Dress as a famous Disney Hero & Sidekick/ Pair of Disney Characters)
    • Thursday:  Toy Story Day (Dress as favorite Toy Story character —
      Have announcement sometime in the day that Andy’s Coming!
    • Friday Theme Day- Halloweentown High
      (Dress in spooky attire paired with your favorite Muskie Pride!)
  • Homecoming Community Events:
    • Monday, Sept. 9th: Junior Girls vs Senior Girls Powder Puff Game: Sept. 9th, 7PM at the MHS Stadium. Entry fee is $5. Proceeds go to the World Wildlife Fund.
    • Thursday, Sept. 12th: Homecoming Parade @ 6pm – Mulberry Street
    • Thursday, Sept. 12th: Homecoming Coronation @ approx. 7:15pm- MHS Gym
    • Friday, Sept. 13th: Homecoming Football Game @ 6pm
  • Homecoming Dance: Saturday, Sept. 14th, MHS Gym, 8pm-11pm.
  • Homecoming Dance Guest Forms: If you plan to bring a non-MHS guest to the Homecoming Dance on Sept. 14, please stop by the Assistant Principal’s office (Room 12-001) and pick up a permission form.  Homecoming Guest Permission Forms are due on or before Monday, September 9th. Guests must be approved before a ticket can be purchased.

** Silver Cord Opportunities/Volunteer Opportunities **

  • The MCSD Food & Nutrition Dept is looking for MHS students to help students at elementary schools with breakfast cards & getting through the serving lines any time from 7-8am during the 2019-2020 school year.
