- MHS Baseball – Anyone interested in playing baseball is invited to participate in open field at Tom Bruner field every Monday from 6:30-8 pm as well as Saturday (beginning this weekend) at 9 am for Freshmen and Sunday at 1pm for Soph/Varsity. Follow the MHS Baseball Twitter page at https://twitter.com/MHSMuskieBBall for possible cancellations and any other updates.
- Key Club – Come to our second meeting! Friday September, 16 at 7:30 am in the Commons.
- Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) – Golden Circle College and Career Fair, Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Iowa Events Center – HyVee Hall, 730 3rd St, Des Moines, IA. Largest college & career fair in the State of Iowa, bringing the greatest variety of colleges and universities from across Iowa, and the nation. The fair is sponsored by ACT, Inc, The Greater Des Moines Partnership, and Hy-vee. There will be a career feature that will have 16 Career Clusters represented by Iowa Businesses, enabling students grades 9-12, to discuss prospective career pathways with the leaders in those fields. - Homecoming Mumz Information Meeting – Sept. 14 & Sept. 15 in Room 228 from 12:00-12:45 and 3:30-4:00 pm. Stop in to find out how to make Homecoming Mumz and show your Muskie Spirit!
- ATTENTION GOLFERS AND NON-GOLFERS…. Sunday, September 18th is the 7th Annual Muskie Booster Golf Outing at Geneva Country Club. The weather is shaping up to be a picture perfect day so why not come out and support Muskie teams/clubs! If you’re not a golfer, why not come out to Geneva for lunch only and shop the silent auction items! So far, these items include: HON chair, Date Night Basket, Wine Basket, as well as your favorite MHS sports baskets. Please see the attached flyer for details. MHS Golf Outing Registration 2016
- Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) – Our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 14th during lunch (12:00pm – 12:45pm) in Room 11-037 on the first floor of the new wing. Pizza will be provided. Bring a friend!
- Girls’ Basketball – We will have open gym on Thursday from 5:45 – 7:15pm in the main gym at MHS.
- Model UN – Students planning to attend the Des Moines conference should stop in Ms. Hansen’s room for a brief meeting on Wednesday, September 14th. Choose the meeting time that works best for you: 2nd part of lunch (12:25pm) OR after school (3:30pm).
- Anime Club – Tuesdays and Wednesday starting at 3:45 pm in Ms. Wilford’s room, 11-028. Anime, anime discussion, and video games. See Ms. Wilford for more info!

- All Kinds Of People Jr. (AKOP Jr.) – First meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, September 14th at 3:45 pm in Mrs. Walker’s classroom (Room 130 in the Science Hall). There will be snacks and drinks provided for this first meeting of the year. Looking for a safe atmosphere to share your thoughts and ideas regarding a variety of topics? Then All Kinds Of People Jr. (AKOP Jr.) is the club for you to join! Formerly we were known as the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), but after reading the mission statement, it was decided we needed a more all-encompassing name. This club is student-run in a high school or middle school that brings together students to support each other, provide a safe place to socialize, and create a platform to fight for racial, gender, LGBTQ, and economic justice.
- Boys Basketball Open Gym will be held, starting on Monday, September 19th, from 7:15 ‐ 8:45 pm in the MHS gym. Most open gyms will be held on Monday and Thursday nights at the same time.
- The Teen Library Committee will have their second meeting of the year this Wednesday, September 15th. We will meet during lunch/enrichment in Mrs. Keltner’s office – bring your lunch and a friend!

- Muskie Homecoming Spirit Mumz – Show your Muskie Homecoming spirit and make a Homecoming Spirit Mum to wear.
Here are the Rules:
Mum must be in Muskie colors and ALL items on your mum must be school appropriate!
Ladies — you will be wearing your mum so keep that in mind when thinking about the size of your mum.
Guys can make a Homecoming Garter to wear around their arm.
Decorate with your favorite sport, activity, etc. Get ideas from Pinterest — type in “Homecoming Mums”.
Get creative and show your Muskie Spirit!Freshman – ribbon length cannot exceed 1 foot
Sophomores – ribbon length cannot exceed 1 foot 6 inches
Juniors – ribbon length cannot exceed 2 feet 6 inches
Seniors – ribbon length cannot exceed 3 feet
Muskie Homecoming Mumz Contest
Enter the Homecoming Mumz Contest for $2 in the Main Office with Mrs. Borde to win a pair of tickets to the Homecoming Dance on Oct. 1. (Ten (10) entries in each grade level (9, 10, 11, 12) needed in order for contest to take place.) Contest entry runs from Sept. 12 – 21. Winners will be announced on Sept. 23. Proceeds from the contest will be split between the Muskie Locker and the funding for New Electronic School sign at the Cedar Street entrance. Wear your Homecoming Spirit Mum in the parade on Sept. 29. A special promenade between the parade and coronation for the designers to show off their Spirit Mum will also take place. More information on time will be released as Homecoming Coronation information is available.
- The Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program was established in 2010 as Notre Dame’s first merit scholarship program dedicated to enabling intellectually gifted, principled, civic-minded young men and women to fulfill their potential through formal study, experiential learning, social engagement, and mutual reinforcement. We are happy to welcome the HYSP Class of 2020 and now look forward to the selection of the Class of 2021. - Corinna Aguirre is a Vista through the United Way of Muscatine and Americorps. She will be working in Student Services every Wednesday and Thursday for the school year. We will introduce her at a later date, but for now, be aware that she will be sending an email to all staff asking for various things like where did you attend college, etc. This is part of the Iowa College Student Aid Commissions 3 step process to “build college-going culture in Iowa high schools”. - The Healthy Living Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 24th from 10am-3pm and we are looking for volunteers to help out at the Kids Activity Tent at Weed Park with miscellaneous activities. We also have other kids activities at the Riverfront that we are looking for help with. We would like to do shifts of 10am-1pm and noon-3pm on that Saturday.
