Go Muskies!

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA): We will meet over the lunch hour today in room 12-018 in the science wing. There will be pizza!
  • Boys’ Basketball Open Gym will be held, starting on Monday, September 25th, from 7:15 ‐ 8:45p.m. in the MHS gym. Open gyms will be held on Monday and Thursday nights at the same time.
  • Come join in a world-wide prayer event! Wednesday, Sept. 27 is the annual SEE YOU AT THE POLE event. Youth and community members around the nation and around the world will meet at their school flag poles to pray for our schools, communities, nation, and world. Everyone (including parents and other community members) are welcome to join us at the front flag pole from 7:00 to 8:00 am. This year’s theme is ‘let us fix our eyes’
    (Hebrews 12:2). Hope to see you there!!
  • September 18-22 is Deaf Awareness Week
    Deaf Awareness Week Interesting Facts for Wednesday

    • Sitting in front of the speakers at a rock concert will begin to damage your hearing in only 7 1/2 minutes. This damage cannot be reversed.
    • 37% of children with only minimal hearing loss fail at least one grade.
    • Listening through earphones for just one hour will increase the bacteria in your ear up to 700 times.
    • The sound of the roaring ocean you hear when putting a seashell next to your ear is the sound of your blood surging through the veins in your ear.
    • Contrary to popular belief, a cochlear implant does not result in “restored” hearing for the recipient, but does allow him or her to perceive sounds. A person with a cochlear implant hears an electronic version of sound similar to a computerized voice.
  • Anyone interested in joining the Teen Library Committee: Our first meeting of the year will be Wednesday, September 20th during the second half of lunch in Mrs. Keltner’s office (just off the library). This committee is a great group for anyone who loves to read and wants to help promote the library.
  • Juniors: The PSAT test will be held on October 11th at 8:30 a.m. in the Muskie room at the Board Office. The PSAT is a standardized test to help you prepare for the SAT and is also the only way to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Cost of the test is $16. You can sign up for the test in Student Services at MHS. Last day to sign up for the PSAT is Monday, 10/9. There are a limited number of test. Please contact your school counselor if you would like more information.

  • Seniors: Baby ads for the yearbook are due October 6th. Baby Ad Form
  • Seniors: Senior pictures need to be uploaded to the yearbook website by November 17th. Senior Picture Form
  • Sept. 23 Volleyball – Parking at Iowa City West: The best (and only) entrance for the volleyball tournament is on the north (front) side of the HS building. Spectators can park in the angle parking in front of the school, our auditorium parking lot, or our West Wing parking lot (and enter through Door 1).New Scholarships: See Scholarship section below (Sept., Oct., Feb., March)
  • The library is selling autographed books by our visiting author, Trent Reedy. Order forms are available in the library; orders and money are due Friday, September 22.
  • Students interested in being a Peer Tutor during the school day, please fill out the attached form to be contacted by either Mrs. Hawkins or Mrs. Hirschfeld. We appreciate your willingness to help!
  • The yearbook staff has several extra yearbooks from the following school years:  2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2015-2016. If you would like to purchase a copy, we are selling these for $20 (originally $56) What a deal! Please contact Katie Brown at if you are interested in buying one.

** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • The Mulberry School Fall Carnival is Friday, September 29 and we (PTO) are looking for MHS students who want to have some fun volunteering. We are looking for students who would help parent volunteers take tickets and help run the children’s games, paint faces, watch kids in the bounce house, and the photo booth. The carnival activities run from 5:30-8:00. Please contact Niki at 563-554-9239 to choose your games and time slots.
  • Senior Resources is looking for volunteers to help run kids’ games at the Memories Start With Us Walk, Run, Ride benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association on October 14 anytime from 7:00 am – 1 pm. If interested, please contact Angela or Shannon at (563) 263-7292.
  • CrossRoads is looking for 10 volunteers to work their Carnival on September 30 from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. If interested, please contact Tiffany Hood at 563-260-2630.
  • Youth Sports Foundation is looking for students to work the YSF concessions on Sundays. If interested, please contact Jim Miller at 563-288-2541.
  • MCSD Food Service is looking for students who would be willing to volunteer at various elementary buildings to get the students through the breakfast line. Times would be 7:40-8:05 am daily. Please email Alisha Eggers at if you are interested in volunteering.
