Sept. 30th – 2nd Voting for Homecoming King and Queen will take place starting Wednesday, Sept. 30th. Homecoming dance tickets will go on sale before school at 8:00 AM, during lunch/enrichment and after school until 4:00 outside Student Services. Selling will end at 4:00 PM on October 9th. (Homecoming T-shirts will be available at this time as well) |
October 5th – 11:30 AM Coronation Luncheon |
October 7th – Homecoming Dance Permission Forms due. Turn into Asst. Principals Office |
October 8th – Homecoming Parade/Grill-out/Coronation. The Grill-out will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, with Parade starting at 6:00 PM at Grant Elementary and ending at the High School. Coronation starts at 7:00 PM in the high school gym |
October 9th – Senior March cost is $5 (must sign up by end of day October 7th with permission slips turned in — more information to come) |
October 9th – Homecoming Game: Muscatine Muskies vs Ottumwa Bulldogs JV begins at 5:00 PM (Announcement of Homecoming court/parents and King and Queen during halftime) |
October 10th – Homecoming Dance 9 PM – 12 AM |
- Sophomores – Jostens will be at MHS on Tuesday, Sept. 22nd at lunch (11:58-12:48) outside the Student Services office for Class Ring orders.
- Mr. Armstrong’s freshmen classes will meet in room 228 Tuesday, September 22. Bring your laptops.
- SOAP invites you to join us at the front flagpole this Wednesday morning at 7:00 to pray for our school and community. We’ll finish by 8:00; come when you can, leave if you must.
- Intramural Twitter Voting: The Activities Department will be offering intramurals during enrichment (for students that not assigned to enrichment) , and is offering students the opportunity to decide the first intramural activity. Follow Activities Director Andrew Werling on Twitter at @AndyWerling and place your vote beginning tomorrow afternoon.
- The Environmental Club will meet this Thursday, second half of lunch, in Room 146.
- The Environmental Club is selling Infuser water bottles $5 in Room 146.

- The Teen Library Committee (TLC) will be having their first meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 23rd during lunch. Bring your lunch to Mrs. Keltner’s office (behind the circulation desk in the library) to learn more about the TLC. Contact Mrs. Keltner if you have questions!
- Student IDs are available for those that had their picture taken on Sept. 8th during lunchtime. No passes will be given for being late to class for picking up your ID.
- The Magic the Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons Clubs will have a meeting for students interested in participating on Tuesday, Sept. 29th during the end of lunch at 12:40 in Ben Johns’s office (21-029 — the glass office upstairs in the new wing). The club is planning to tentatively start meeting on Mondays after school in the library starting on Monday, Oct. 5th. We have an unlimited amount of free Magic intro decks if you’re interested, but have no cards.

- Vote for the Muscatine/Cedar Rapids football game for coverage by Channel 6 news this Friday on the Highlight Zone. The game that receives the most votes will be the “Six Spotlight” game of the week with exclusive behind the scenes coverage including Snapchat and Instagram. - GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) will have their first meeting of the year Wednesday, September 23, after school in room 229. See Mrs. Kramer or Mr. Falkena if you have any questions.
- Exploring College Options – A unique program featuring five of the country’s leading universities: Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Stanford, and University of Pennsylvania. At each event, representation from the five school will offer brief side presentations about their institutions and answer your questions about the sometimes-mystifying world of college admissions. You will learn about what distinguishes one fine university from another, what competitive colleges look for in the selection process, and what you can do to enhance your college application. The event will take place on Oct. 1, 2015 7:30-9:30 PM at the DoubleTree Cedar Rapids Convention Center. Register at www.exploringcollegeoptions.org Contact Info: 202-687-3600. - Now here: Peer Tutoring! Free math tutoring on a drop-in basis over the lunch hour. For a tutor schedule, check with your math teacher. Tutoring will be held in Mr. Lopez’s room, AA40. Students who attend tutoring will be entered into a bi-monthly prize raffle. If you have questions, contact peertutoring@mcsdonline.org or your math teacher.
** Silver Cord Opportunities **
- The Muscatine Sister Cities group needs some help with the collection of Purington bricks at the City Yard for use in construction of the brick walk across the International Friendship Park at the corner of 8th and Cedar that we have been working on all this year. If you are available to help after school, please call or text Linda Meloy at 299.5262.
- Colorado PTO needs volunteers for their Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 2. Volunteers will need to arrive at 4:40 and stay until 8:30 PM. If interested, please contact Heather Noll at heather.noll@mcsdonline.org or text 563.260.8251. Please leave a name and number where you can be reached.
