Go Muskies!

  • 2015-2016 Pre-AP students need to meet with their Pre-AP teacher (either Mrs. Cantrell or
    Mrs. Fallon) Thursday, May 21 after school at 3:35 to receive summer homework. Please contact your teacher if you cannot attend. Email either pam.cantrell@mcsdonline.org or rachel.fallon@mcsdonline.org.
  • May 22 – MHS Boys Soccer vs. IC Regina. The Sophomore game will start at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game to follow (note change in start time). The games will be held at the Muscatine Soccer Complex.
    May 22 – MHS Girls Soccer vs. IC Regina will be played as scheduled with a 5:00 p.m. start time.
  • Students – please make certain that PE lockers are emptied by 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 29.  Any items left after this time will be donated to Goodwill.
  • Freshman-Juniors: All library books and materials are due by Friday, May 22nd. If you need to keep a book longer for a class assignment, please contact Mrs. Keltner.
  • Muscatine High School Bands and  Band Boosters present their fourth annual Drum Corps competition, ”Percussion on the Pearl,” on Sunday night, July 12, at 6 p.m., at the MHS stadium. Eight drum corps – from Wisconsin, Texas, New Jersey, Michigan, Tennessee, and Iowa – will compete, with the goal to make it into the lineup of competitors in the World Championship held in Indianapolis in early August.
    We are very proud to announce that two MHS band members, Luke LeBeau and Teddy VanWinkle, are members of the Colt Cadets who are headquartered in Dubuque, Iowa.  Tickets range from $20-25 and will be available at the gate.   • Good luck to the Boys and Girls Track team members participating in the State Track Meet in Des Moines May 21-23. Go Muskies!
  • The Muskie Library will again have extended hours for finals week! During finals week (Tuesday 05/26 – Thursday 05/28) the library will be open from 7:30am – 7:00pm. Students are encouraged to come use the extra study time to prepare for semester tests or final projects – snacks (brain food) will be served from 5:00-7:00pm. Good Luck, Muskie Nation!
  • Any students in a Social Studies AP class for next year should attend a meeting on Wednesday, May 27, in the auditorium @ 2:45 to receive summer information. Teachers will be available at this meeting.
  • There will be a meeting on May 26th Tuesday at 3:30PM in Mr. Foxen’s room 11-033 (new wing) for all those interested in Boys XC. Summer schedules and much more will be discussed. Please see  or e-mail Mr. Foxen if you can not attend.
  • 2015 Muskie Boys Golf information is available at the Attendance Office for those that were unable to attend the sign-up meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Randleman at harley20@machlink.com or at 563-263-9960.
  • The Jefferson PTO will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts beginning at Noon this Saturday, May 23rd, at the District Administration Center, located at 2900 Mulberry Avenue.  For convenience, customers may stay in their cars and drive through under the canopy.  Donuts will be $10/dozen.  Krispy Kreme Donuts make an easy “graduation weekend” breakfast for families and guests!  Get ’em before they’re……   gone!
  • MHS Graduation is on Sunday, May 24, starting at 2:00 pm in the MHS Gymnasium. Doors open at 1:30PM for seating.

  • Are you interested in an inter-cultural experience, but can’t travel abroad?  Language and Friendship is looking for host families THIS SUMMER for students from France and Spain.  They will be here for a month, and just want to experience American life and practice their English.  If you are interested, see Mrs. Paulsen in Room 201 as soon as possible.
  • The 2015 FFA Plant Sale is being held throughout the month of May. We have had a very successful sale this year, but there are still more plants for sale! Feel free to stop in on Thursday or Friday through the end of the month and support the FFA between  7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.!

    Summer Lifeguards – If interested in being a lifeguard, Geneva Country Club is hiring.  Please stop in and pick up an application.

    Attention students!  If you are interested in earning some money this summer, please stop by the counselor’s office to pick up information about detasseling.

** Volunteer / Silver Cord Hours **

College 4 Kids – If you love hands-on classes and would like to help younger children, this is the opportunity for you!  College 4 Kids is in need of volunteers June 15-June 26 at West Middle School from 8:00AM-12:00 Noon.  Please contact Laurie Schroeder @ 263-0411 or lschroed@muscatine.k12.ia.us Deadline to apply is May 22, 2015.

Grant Elementary School will be holding their annual Field Day on Friday, May 22. We are looking for several volunteers between the hours of 11:15-3:15 to help with outdoor games. You will be awarded Silver Cord hours. If you are able to help us out, please contact Emily Shield at emily.shield@mcsdonline.org .

CROSSROADS is in need of volunteers to help with the games at the 2nd annual CROSSROADS Carnival.  It will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 11am-4pm. You can stay for the whole day, or work in half day shifts.  Shifts are 10:45-1:30 and 1:15-4.  Lunch will be provided for volunteers that stay for the whole day.  Please contact Shannon Walsh @ www.crossroadsmuscatine.org or at 563.263.3545 x. 101 if interested.  Please view the attached flyer for more information.

Carnival 2015

United Way is working on keeping the summer free lunch program, but we need your help.  We are needing volunteers to help us deliver and serve meals during the summer.  You can help 2 times or 10 times this summer.  We just want your help. Please view the attached flyer for more information.

** Scholarship Information **

  • Children’s Cancer Connection: Scholarship values range from $500-$5,000. Applicant must be directly affected by childhood cancer and must plan to attend a 2 or 4 year university.  Application and other information are available in MHS Student Services.  Due date is May 29, 2015.
  •  Nursing Schools Almanac Scholarship:  Nursing Schools Almanac is proud to announce our inaugural Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. We will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:

    Competition eligibility: This scholarship competition is open to all US high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.
    Applicants must be in good academic standing and on track to graduate from high school at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. Only one application entry is accepted per student.

    Important dates:
    June 30, 2015: Submission deadline for scholarship applications is 11:59pm PT.
    July 2015: Scholarship committee will meet to review all applications received.
    August 2015: Winner will be notified and $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

  • The Bright Scholars Award — please see attached document for more information. The Bright Scholars of Iowa
  • Iowa Section PGA–Charlie Burkart Scholarship: $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year for 4 years). Application is available in MHS Student Services.  Due Date is 6/12/2015.
