Go Muskies!
- There will be a meeting today after school for anyone interested in starting their own business. The meeting will be in Room 217, Mr. Fladlien’s room, immediately after school today. It will run until 4 pm. There will be a make up meeting for anyone who cannot attend. If you can’t attend, you should see Mr. Fladlien for additional information.
- Girls needing to turn in cross country uniforms should do so ASAP.
- The Girls’ Cross Country Banquet and awards night will be held Monday, November 10 beginning at 6:00 PM. The banquet will be held at the lodge at the Saulsbury Bridge Recreation Area. Directions are cross the bypass going north on North Mulberry Road about 3 miles, turn west (left) to the Recreation Area about 3 to 4 miles. From F 70 turn south on North Mulberry Road about 1 1/2 miles turn west (right) to the recreation area, about 3 to 4 miles. Parking to the left of the lodge. Any questions, see Coach Armstrong.
Freshmen should bring desserts, sophomores side dishes, juniors table service, and seniors main dishes. Bring your own drinks. Any questions, pleas contact Coach Armstrong.
- The Football Banquet will be held Sun Nov 16 at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. This is for all Freshman, Sophomore and Varsity football players and their families. Ice cream and cupcakes will be served after the awards ceremony in the cafeteria.
- Boys Basketball: There will be a mandatory player and parent meeting for Boys Basketball on Wednesday, Nov. 5th, starting at 5:30 pm in the MHS Library. Information regarding the upcoming season including calendars and expectations will be discussed.
- Any Ag Student who needs more info about fruit sales or isn’t in a class this semester and need the paperwork- Meet in the Ag room at 8:00 am on Friday, Nov. 7.
- Any student signing a national letter of intent to be a student athlete for a Division 1 or Division 2 school for any sport other than football and soccer should contact Mr. Werling by Nov. 7th. National signing day for the early period for all sports other than football and soccer is Nov 12. MHS will do a brief ceremony on Nov 12. The ceremony is open to anyone including family, friends, and media to attend. Remaining signing dates:
2/4/15 for Football and Soccer
4/15 for All other sports (regular period)

- As the fall season rolls around Student Council is beginning their annual Food Drive.
We wanted to take the time to update you with all of the upcoming activities that raises large amounts of money and perishable food items for those who have little.
- The Tootsie Pop competition beings on November 3rd. It runs for 4 weeks, and all students are encouraged to bring cans to their third period class! The winner (the 3rd period class with the most cans) at the end of each week will win a bag of tootsie pop’s, and then at the end of the contest the winner will win a pizza party! Make your 3rd period the winning team.
- CanBall takes place November 6th. This is an all male volleyball tournament that is immediately after school. You have the choice to play or come and watch. Either way you are supporting the Food Drive. Forms to participate can be found in Room 205A and are due no later then Wednesday, November 5th at noon. Each participant pays $5 or 10 canned food items to play. Anyone wanting to watch pays $2 or 5 canned food items.
- Mr. Muscatine is an all male beauty pageant. Mr. Muscatine will be held on November 26th from 8:30am – 10am. We are need of participants, it is open to any male senior with a 3.0 GPA. Packets are available in Mrs. Bobay’s office (205A) and are due November 7th. Tickets to watch the show will go on sale November 17th and are limited. $5 per ticket
- Finally, Bowls for Hunger, which is a soup dinner will be Friday, December 5th. It will take place in conjunction with a home Muskie Girls’ basketball game. Each meal includes two bowls of soup, bread and dessert. The cost for a meal is $5. Great way to support the girls basketball team and give back to the community!
- Boy’s XC Reminder: The end of the year banquet will be this Thursday Nov. 6th at 6:30PM in the HS Commons. It will be potluck style so please bring your own table setting. Drinks will be provided. If you have questions please see Coach Foxen.
- Attention all Sophomore and Varsity Football players: Equipment/Uniform check in will be this Wednesday (Nov. 5) after school until 5pm. Please make sure and wash your uniforms and practice gear.
- Girls’ Basketball: Open gym this week is on Monday (7:00-8:30pm) and Thursday (5:30-7:00pm). Practice begins on Monday, November 10th at 3:45pm in the main gym.
- The MHS Drama Department will present “The Man Who Came To Dinner” on November 7 & 8 at 7 pm in the MHS Auditorium. Tickets are only $5, or you may use your activity pass/MCSD Partner Pass for entrance. All tickets sold at the door – box office opens at 6:15 pm each night! This very funny play, follows the exploits of the obnoxious Mr. Whiteside, a famous personality, who takes over the quiet mid-western home of the Stanley family after slipping on ice at their doorstep. He disrupts their world with the comings and goings of his friends. When his long-time assistant falls for the local journalist, he brings in a famous actress to break up their relationship, causing even more trouble. Don’t miss this classic comedy!
- Blood Drive – Key Club will hold a Blood Drive on Monday, November 10th in the main gym. If you are 16 and older, visit www.mhskeyclub.org to sign up and donate. Students who are 16 years of age must get a parent permission form signed. These are available at the attendance office.
- The fall Vocal Music Fundraiser has begun! Our discount cards for the 2014-2015 year are good through October 31st, 2015 and only cost $10! THESE ARE NOT PUNCH CARDS–THEY ARE DISCOUNT CARDS YOU CAN USE OVER AND OVER AGAIN!! You get great deals at 15 Muscatine businesses, including Domino’s, Taco John’s, McDonald’s, Salvatore’s, Blimpie Subs, Miracle Car Wash, Flowers on the Avenue, and others. - Volunteers are needed to Ring the Bells at each Salvation Army Red Kettle location. Groups or individuals would work. Call the Salvation Army at 263-8272 to sign up for a time and location.
- Students interested in MHS Winter Sports. Please remember that you are required to have your parent permission/concussion form and sports physical form on file in the A.D. Office. Before practice begins, check with Mrs. Hansen in Room 162 to make sure your paperwork is complete.

- The Muskie Band’s annual nut fundraiser is underway! Order cashews, mixed nuts, puddles (turtles), and chocolate dipped cherries and blueberries now – they make great holiday gifts or a treat for yourself! For a flyer with pictures and prices, or to make a purchase, call Janet Clark at 299-0019, email mclark@machlink.com, or talk to any of the MHS band students. Walk-ins are welcome at the band’s “nut house” at 1700 Park Ave. (southwest corner of the Vision Center PC building). Hours are every Tues. evening from 6-7:30 pm and Sat. morning from 10 am till noon until Dec. 20, so buy now while we have a large selection available! Nuts are also available at O’Donnell Ace Hardware, 1420 Park Ave., during regular store hours.

Senior Pictures and a Senior Saying is due November 14th. This year, senior pictures will only be accepted by submitting them to the Josten’s website. If your photographer wants to submit your picture for you, it is up to you to talk to the photographer and tell them the process. All photos need to be submitted electronically by November 14, 2014. Photos received after this date cannot be guaranteed a place in the yearbook.
- Class of 2015 – If you are a student athlete who plans or has the potential to participate in athletics in college at the Division 1, Division 2, or NAIA level, please make an appointment to meet with Mr. Welsch in the next few weeks to make sure that you meet the NCAA Clearinghouse requirements. It is important to note that some of these requirements differ from MHS graduation requirements and must be met in order to participate in athletics at the Division 1, Division 2 and NAIA levels.

University of Iowa Presidential Scholarship is now available at http://admissions.uiowa.edu/finances/scholarships-first-year-students.
Deadline is December 12, 2014
