Go Muskies!

  • Muscatine FFA Plant Sale – Starts April 30th. Please see attached for more information. FFA Plant Sale
  • Girls’ Basketball: Open gym this week will be on Thursday, April 9 from 5:30-7:00pm in the main gym. 
  • Any student signing a national letter of intent to be a student athlete for a Division 1 or Division 2 school for any sport other than football, soccer, and basketball for the April 15th signing day should contact Mr. Werling by April 8th. There will be a ceremony which is open to anyone including family, friends, and media to attend. If you have questions, please see http://www.nationalletter.org/
  • Girls soccer schedule change:  
    Tuesday, April 14th – Var/JV Girls Soccer @ Dav. Assumption has been rescheduled for Monday, April 13th. The games will be played at Dav. Assumption High School with the varsity game at 4:30 p.m., JV game to follow.
  • Crossroads will host the 2nd Annual Transition Fair in the MHS Commons on April 8th from 2-5pm. Everyone is invited to this opportunity that will offer information related to services available to individuals with any type of disability. Many local services providers will be on hand to answer questions and help students and families become aware of the options and services that are available in Muscatine and the surrounding area. Please contact Kristyn Manjoine at MHS extension 1167 for additional information.
  • FFA banquet April 9th at Muscatine Ag Center. Meal at 5:30PM, Program at 6:30PM. 
  • Needed — Soccer Work Day Clients on April 26.  Hire 2 soccer players for 3 hrs for $50 to do yard work, clean out an attic or garage, painting, etc.  If interested, please contact Kathy Berns at kathyberns@yahoo.com or any MHS soccer player.
  • MUSCATINE MUSKIE FALL 2015 CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS
    Anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of cheerleading before trying out for the Fall cheer squad is invited to attend 4 free prep clinics on April 7th, 9th, 14th, and 16th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the high school commons. There will be a tryout informational meeting in the commons on Thursday, April 16th, immediately following the final clinic. All prep clinic participants must have a parent/guardian sign a waiver. The waiver form will be available in the attendance office starting Thursday, April 2nd.
    Tryouts are Sunday, April 26th, in the afternoon, in the high school gym. There will be tryout practices on April 20th, 23rd, and 24th. For anymore information or questions, please contact Coach Sink at muskiecheercoach@gmail.com
  • Summer Job Opportunities
    Juniors & Seniors:  Senior Resources in Muscatine is looking for a summer intern. Senior Resources does home repair & renovation for elderly persons who are not capable of doing it themselves. The summer intern will be working under the guidance of a skilled trades person. No experience is needed. Previous wood shop or construction experience is helpful. Must have good attendance and be able to follow direction.   This is a paid position, 25 hours per week during the summer months. Hours are 8AM-1PM (MondayFriday).   • MHS Drama Department presents The Addams Family – A New Musical!  Don’t miss this very entertaining show.  Thursday, April 23 and Friday, 24 at 7 pm, and two shows on Saturday, April 253 pm and 7:30 pm (Yes! ** Volunteer / Silver Cord Hours **

Washington Elementary is looking for approximately 30 volunteers to help out with their Spring Carnival on Friday, April 24th from 5-8pm.  Volunteers will receive a free meal and silver cord hours for helping.  This is a great opportunity for leadership groups like NHS and Muskie Football groups who need community service hours.  Please contact Deb Ortiz by email if interested at debbie.ortiz@mcsdonline.org

 ** Scholarship Information **

  • First District American Legion Glenwood Long Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior who is a member, son, daughter, grandchild, brother, or sister to an American Legion or Auxiliary member.  The application is available in MHS Student Services. Due date is May 1, 2015.
  • Leo H. Grether Memorial Scholarship: IHSMA is offering a $2,500 scholarship to students enrolling in college as a vocal music education major.  Other criteria apply.  See application and other information in MHS Student services.  Due date is April 15, 2015.
  • Children’s Cancer Connection: Scholarship values range from $500-$5,000. Applicant must be directly affected by childhood cancer and must plan to attend a 2 or 4 year university.  Application and other information are available in MHS Student Services.  Due date is May 29, 2015.
  •  Nursing Schools Almanac Scholarship:  Nursing Schools Almanac is proud to announce our inaugural Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. We will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:

    Competition eligibility: This scholarship competition is open to all US high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.
    Applicants must be in good academic standing and on track to graduate from high school at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. Only one application entry is accepted per student.

    Important dates:
    June 30, 2015: Submission deadline for scholarship applications is 11:59pm PT.
    July 2015: Scholarship committee will meet to review all applications received.
    August 2015: Winner will be notified and $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

  • KWQC Broadcast Scholarship: (2) $1,000 scholarship awards are available to students who are accepted to a college and planning to enroll in broadcasting classes. Students must also reside in the KWQC viewing area.  Applications are available in MHS Student Services with a postmark due date of May 8, 2015.
  • ASHRAE Scholarship: ​ASHRAE scholarships are designed to encourage and assist heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration education through the granting of a scholarship at the undergraduate level. The program also serves the public interest in aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers or technicians in the HVAC and/or refrigeration field.
    ASHRAE Scholarships are available to students enrolled in any school provided the curriculum in which the student is enrolled is accredited by an agency recognized by ASHRAE and the student is pursuing a course of study which has traditionally been a preparatory curriculum for the profession of HVAC and/or refrigeration.
    Basic criteria on which all scholarships are granted are as follows:
    Prior academic performance – A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
    Recommendations from instructors and references.
    Character, involvement in other activities and leadership ability.
    Potential service to the HVAC and/or refrigeration profession, and involvement in ASHRAE chapter or student branch activities.
    Applications shall be postmarked no later than April 15, 2015. The following data must be submitted:
    Completed and signed application form.
    A letter of recommendation from Professor or Faculty Advisor.
    Two or more additional letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with applicant’s character, accomplishments and likelihood of success in the HVAC and/or refrigeration industry.
    Applicants will be notified of the Selection Committee’s decision by April 24, 2015. The winner will be invited to attend the Chapter’s monthly meeting on April 30, 2015 to accept the scholarship.

  • Edward Bitzer–American Legion Unit 27 Scholarship: $500 scholarship.  Application is available in MHS Student Services.  Due Date is 4/15/2015.
  • Iowa Section PGA–Charlie Burkart Scholarship: $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year for 4 years). Application is available in MHS Student Services.  Due Date is 6/12/2015.
  • ACACIA Leadership Scholarship for University of Iowa: Up to $2,000 scholarship available to any male high school graduate entering University of Iowa. Should show excellence in academics, extra curricular activities, and community involvement. Application is available in MHS Student Services. Due Date is 4/30/2015.
