Upcoming events and dates to remember:

December 16 MAP Testing Grade 7 ELA (English Language Arts)

December 16 – Chorus Concert 6:00pm

December 18 – Orchestra Concert 6:00pm

December 19 – Last day of 1^st semester

December 22-Jan 5 – Winter Break

January 6 – Classes resume – 1^st day of Second semester

The WMS Orchestra Concert is Thursday, December 18th at 6pm in the WMS Large Gym.  Students are to arrive at 5:30pm with their instrument and music.  Students should wear black on bottom and white, red or green on top.
The orchestra program is selling Flower Cards again for $25.  This gets you a beautiful bouquet of flowers each month in 2015 from the Flower Gallery. They make excellent gifts!  Email or talk to Jessica if you would like to purchase one.  For each card sold the orchestra program receives $15 so this is what keeps our program funded!

Winter Break is coming and the Muscatine Community YMCA is planning to keep you busy. We will kickoff the break Monday, Dec. 22^nd with a movie day, complete with popcorn, nachos and hot chocolate. Tuesday, Dec. 23rd 1-4pm is a 3 on 3 Basketball Challenge. Friday, Dec. 26^th 1-4pm is a Wii/Kinect Sports Challenge.  Monday, Dec. 29^th 1-4pm is a Dodgeball Challenge. Tuesday, December 30^th from 1-4pm is Sports Camp. Friday, Jan. 2^nd 1-4pm will be Minute to Win It Challenges with prizes. And finally, Monday, Jan. 5^th 1-4pm is Nerf Wars, The Y will supply ammo, you are encouraged to bring own Nerf gun if you have one! All the Winter Break programming is free for members and nonmembers. For more information contact Amy Hessel at the Y.

The Muscatine Community YMCA will be holding a Super Sitters Class Monday and Tuesday, December 29^th and 30^th from 9am-3pm each day.  Preregistration is required! The cost is $18.00 for members and $36.00 for nonmembers.  The two days will be spent on care and handling of infants, appropriate toys and games, basic 1^st aid and emergency situations.  For more information contact Amy Hessel at the Y!

Students,

We would like to have a student Winter Holiday hat contest.  Wear a hat that screams Winter Holiday on Thursday, December 18th.  Teachers will vote for the ones they think are the most creative.  The top 3 students with the most votes will earn a prize.  Get in the holiday day spirit, and rock out some serious swag.  Let’s see what ya got!

Attention: 7^th & 8^th grade boys…there will be a basketball informational meeting January 6^th during 8^th period for those interested in playing. REMINDER – you MUST have a physical on file to participate. First practice will be January 7^th 3:45 to 5:00pm.

LIBRARY NEWS:

The Holiday Scholastic Book Fair is in the Library until December 17th.  The online fair is available for a wider selection for young readers to middle school title.  It is a great gift resource for family members living far away!  Check it out at http://tinyurl.com/kt22ots

The West Middle School Holiday Choir Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 16th at the West Middle Large Gym. The concert will start at 6:00 p.m. Students please be there by 5:45 p.m. Please dress up in nice clothes! No jeans or t-shirts please!

Join the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department for the 2014 Basketball Shooting Camp. The instructors will help you work on your shooting technique over your school winter break. Learn the proper stance, balance, grip, delivery and follow through as they help you improve your game. Stop in the main office for information and Camp details.

The Muskie Band’s Annual Nut Fundraiser is coming to an end!  To make a purchase contact any MHS band student or call 563 299 0019.  You can also make a purchase by stopping by the band’s retail store front location,  “The Nut House” at 1700 Park Ave. (southwest corner of the Vision Center PC building).   This week  the hours will be Tuesday December 16 from 6-7:30 pm and Saturday December 20 from, 10 am till noon.   Saturday December 20 will be our last day, so buy now while we have a selection available!  Nuts may also be purchased at O’Donnell Ace Hardware, 1420 Park Ave., during regular store hours.

For your convenience all athletic and activity events can now be found on the WMS calendar.  This one stop convenient calendar will make it easy for staff, students and parents to access dates and times for all activities. Just click on the “School Calendar” tab at the top right.

The Attendance Office has purple NIKE athletic bags for sale for $30.00. Stop by to take a look.
