Today is a BLUE Day!

 

Upcoming events and dates to remember:

 

The Muscatine Community YMCA will be hosting the last middle school dance of the school year on Sat. April 23rd from 7:30-10:30pm.  Tickets are on sale now at the Y for just  $4.00.  If any are left, they will be $5.00 at the door.  DJ, Dancing, Dodgeball, Open Gym, and other contest throughout the evening.  Food will be sold for a nominal fee.  Parent Chaperones are always needed.  Contact Amy Hessel at the YMCA, 263.9996 for more information or to volunteer.

 

Current 8th-11th grade football parents, we will have a Spring meeting on Sunday, May 15th at 4:15 PM in the MHS cafeteria.

2016 Muskie football players (grades 8-11), Sunday, May 15th at 5pm, we will have our Lift-a-thon letter writing night. We will meet in the MHS Commons.

 

Check the ‘Virtual Backpack” for information and registration forms for Muscatine Diabetes Walk on Friday, May 6 2016, the Youth Sports Foundation’s Summer Football Camp and the 3rd annual Youth Basketball Academy benefitting the Erika Kate Hope Alliance.

 

REMINDER: Scooters and Skateboards are NOT allowed inside of the building.

 

Stop in the main office for information regarding the 2016 Muscatine Girls’ Basketball Fundamentals Camp, June 28-30. Cost is $50.00. Deadline to register is June 28th.

 

Wednesday, April 20th all 8th graders will be touring MCC from 12:30 – 2:30. The bus will be here at 12:15 to board.  8th graders will get to see what a community college has to offer and attend 5 sessions of interesting activities with MCC leaders.  A tour of the campus will also be provided.

Thursday and Friday (half of 7th grade each day) will be attending the University of Iowa to see what a 4 year college has to offer. We will board the buses at 8:30 and return by 2:45.  Please wear good walking shoes as we will be going on a walking tour as well.

 

Yearbooks will be available to purchase for the next two weeks. Please take your $16 to the main office to reserve your copy. Make sure you get yours paid for before we run out.

 

Attention 8th grade students!  If you are 14 years old and would like to make some money this summer, please stop by the counselor’s office to pick up information about detasseling.

 

MHS CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS FOR THE 2016 FALL SEASON are scheduled for Friday, April 29th from 4:30 – 8:30 pm in the Commons and Cafeteria. Doors will open at 3:30 pm that day to practice and warm up. Tryout material will be posted on Sunday, April 17th. All students in grades 8th-11th are encouraged to tryout!

There will be tryout prep clinics from 5:30 – 7 pm in the commons on April 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, and 21st. Prep clinics are for anyone who would like to start learning the basic skills of cheerleading and go over tryout material. The clinic on April 21st will be followed by an informational meeting at 7:00 pm in the commons.  Material review practices will be held from 5:30 – 7 pm in the commons or outside on April 25th, 26th, and 28th.

Can you sing, can you dance, can you put someone in a trance?????  If you have a talent, we want to see what you got!!!!!!  Sign-up outside the office to AUDITION for the end of the year talent show.  Prizes for 1st – 3rd place!!!!!!

Auditions are May 3rd and 4th after school from 3:30 to 5:00 in the small gym

Just remember the following:

1)  If you have music as part of your act, you need to bring it to auditions

2)  No a cappella auditions

3)  No more than 5 minute auditions

Attn: 8th grade parents – Muskie Booster Members needed.  The Muskie Boosters are currently recruiting new board members for the 2016-2017 Board.  Board members help with special events like Fall kick-off, Cake Auction, etc. also helping with concession volunteers.  The Muskie Boosters support all MHS sports, activities, clubs, etc. raising funds and helping keep the activities/sports going. If you would like to hear more about being a board member or signing up for the board, please contact Susan Eversmeyer at saeversmeyer@machlink.com or Dena Bates at batesdc5@gmail.com.

 

For your convenience all athletic and activity events can now be found on the WMS calendar.  This one stop convenient calendar will make it easy for staff, students and parents to access dates and times for all activities. Just click on the “School Calendar” tab at the top right.

 

The Attendance Office has purple NIKE athletic bags for sale for $30.00. Stop by to take a look.
