Registration 2012/13 School Year:
The registration process for the 2012-2013 school year at Muscatine High School began February 13th for students currently in 8th-11thgrade. Grade level counselors have visited classrooms to provide students with course information, current transcripts and guidance on the registration process.Beginning February 21st, students have been called by homeroom to the IMC to complete their online registration for the 2012/13 school year. Counselors, Master Scheduler and support staff were available to guide students through the process and answer any questions regarding registering for classes. In the weeks to follow, School Counselors will make contact with students who were absent or did not complete their online registration during the scheduled time so that all students will have had the opportunity and guidance to register properly for classes.
The Registration Process will be open to students and parents on Power School through March 8th. This will give everyone an opportunity to review and/or make any adjustments to student requests for classes. During this two-week period, students may review course choices with their parents and teachers and make any necessary changes. It is important that students and parents put a great amount of thought into this course selection process, in order to insure they are placed in the right classes leading toward graduation. After March 8th, Counselors will be conducting a follow-up to the scheduling process by contacting students to resolve scheduling conflicts that have occurred as a result of the completion of the schools master schedule.
Students will then be provided with a copy of their 2012-2013 schedule during the week of May 7th. Students will be asked to double-check the accuracy of their schedule for next year. May 14-23 will be devoted to giving students an opportunity for schedule changes. Additional time will be set aside on Wednesday’s during the months of June and July and again during the week of August 13th for students to make any necessary student initiated changes. These changes could include schedule conflicts, pre requisites not being met, adding college level coursework or the need to repeat a failed course. There will be no student-initiated changes once the 2012-2013 school year has begun.
We believe that by following the designed Registration procedures as outlined above, we give all MHS students the ability to start the 2012/13-year on time with an accurate schedule. It also allows school personnel the ability to maintain a balanced student-to-teacher ratio, important in the master scheduling process and in support of academic success.
For additional assistance in the Registration process, please contact a grade level counselor at (563) 263-6141, extension 1126 or 1127.
