** Daily News & Information **

  • Girls’ Basketball: There will be NO open gym on Thursday, May 3rd. Our next open gym is Monday, May 7th from 4:30-6:00pm.
  • MCSD Race for the Schools is Saturday, May 5th at MHS: The MCSD Race for the Schools Committee is pleased to announce; Drake Kulick, former Iowa Hawkeye Fullback and Muscatine High School graduate, (class of 2013) will be the guest starter at the MCSD Races on Saturday. Drake scored the winning touchdown ​for the Iowa Hawkeyes win over Boston College in ​the ​Pinstripe Bowl​. He will be at the high school on Saturday to officially start the 1 mile and the 5K races and will stick around to visit with the students and maybe even sign a few autographs!
    ​Musical guests, (​MHS ​students), ​Garrett Auberg, Trey Broderson, Ben Rice and Micah Smith ​of the group “Solid Harmony​”​ will be at the MCSD Race on Saturday to sing the National Anthem.
    It’s not too late to register for the race. Late registration will be held at the Muscatine School Board Office at 2900 Mulberry on Friday, May 4 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. You can also register the morning of the race at MHS, 2705 Cedar Street from 6:30 – 7:45 am. Please note the late registration fees:
    5K – adults $25, students $12.50, Muskie Mile – Adults $15, students $7.50.  The weather should be perfect Saturday morning. We hope you join us!
  • Pizza Ranch is Hiring! Delivery drivers/Caterers (Must be 18 with clean driving record), Kitchen staff, Front of the house. Day and Night hours available. Applications available at Pizza Ranch or online at www.pizzaranch.com or in MHS Student Services.
  • SENIORS  Annual Student-Athlete College Commitment Ceremony: Any senior student athlete that intends to compete at the collegiate level next year may take part in our annual student-athlete college commitment ceremony on Wednesday May 16, 2018 at 12:10 pm in Muscatine Auditorium. Student-Athletes MUST meet the following criteria to be a part of the ceremony:
    • Must present documentation that you are playing for a collegiate institution (i.e a letter of intent from the school you are going to attend, something that states you are going to compete for a collegiate institution on official school letterhead). Documentation should be to the Activities office by 3pm on Friday, May 11th to be included in the ceremony.
    • Must have competed for Muscatine High School in the sport you are competing in at the collegiate institution if Muscatine offers that sport (i.e if you are swimming or playing softball collegiately, you must have competed for Muscatine and not just the club team. On the other hand, if you are going to college to compete on a Handball team, you may be in the ceremony because Muscatine does not compete in Handball or have a team.)
      This is an opportunity for us to recognize your excellence as a student athlete while at Muscatine High School, and to recognize you as compete at the next level.
  • TODAY! Support MHS FFA – get frozen custard at Culver’s this THURSDAY, May 3rd. Get a $1 scoop of fresh frozen custard and all proceeds will be donated to local FFA chapters and other agricultural education programs to help ensure our nation’s future food supply.

  • Poetry Club: This week for Poetry Club we have a few challenges!
    • Write a stanza, an incomplete poem, and we’ll trade them at Poetry Club so that someone else can pick up where you left off.
    • Write a poem about something you wish you could experience – an event or era you want to be a part of. Use imagery to describe the scene.

  • The MHS Cheer Program would like to invite you to tryout for our 2018 Fall Season. Remaining tryout practice will be held on May 3rd from 6 pm to 7 pm in the MHS Gym. Tryouts are the morning of May 5th in the MHS Gym. Tryout packets are available at both middle schools and at the Attendance Center at the high school. Please come to our clinics and see what it is all about!   • McDonalds Photo Contest Reveal Party, Wednesday, May 9th at 6 pm – Muscatine McDonalds – 2520 Park Ave. Over the last month, Muscatine High School students have submitted photos to us that portray the city of Muscatine. The winners will receive a cash prize and their photos will be displayed in the restaurant. The winning photos will be revealed, the prizes will be given out to the winners and cupcakes will be served. We really would love for the school and community to support the students great photos that will be displayed in our restaurant for everyone to see!  McDonalds Photo Contest Reveal Party
  • The City of Muscatine Public Works is seeking a candidate for a Civil Engineering Tech Intern for the summer. The hours will be approx 8-5 most days, maybe some Saturdays if there is a big project going on. A job summary and application is in Student Services. Intern would also be able to work during Thanksgiving break and Christmas break. Even if the applicant does not have all the certifications, they want you to apply anyway.

The Boys will be playing at the MHS High School Courts and the Girls will be competing at the Weed Park Courts.   • Junior Tennis Tournament Committee is looking for volunteers on July 11th following the tournament for court cleanup from 5 pm to 7 pm.   • MCC Harry Potter Festival committee is looking for volunteers on May 19th. They will need volunteers from 9 am to 6 pm. Our plan for volunteers is to divide our festival map into quadrants and divide volunteers accordingly. Areas of assistance needed will be: Some of the things we need assistance in are: greeting people, directing people where they want to go, if necessary helping bands with their stands and equipment, and running activity booths. All of these areas will be supervised by either staff members from the class, or the instructors. If interested, please contact Kayla Leming at kaylaleming3@gmail.com.   • MCSD Food Service is looking for students who would be willing to volunteer at various elementary buildings to get the students through the breakfast line. Times would be 7:40-8:05 daily. Please email Alisha Eggers at alisha.eggers@mcsdonline.org if you are interested in volunteering.
