  • #ReviewsdayTuesday Hidden Girl by Shyima Hall Shyima Hall was born in Egypt on September 29, 1989, the seventh child of desperately poor parents. When she was eight, her parents sold her into slavery. Shyima then moved two hours away to Egypt’s capitol city of Cairo to live with a wealthy family and serve them eighteen hours a day, seven days a week. When she was ten, her captors moved to Orange County, California, and smuggled Shyima with them. Two years later, an anonymous call from a neighbor brought about the end of Shyima’s servitude—but her journey to true freedom was far from over. Checkout (or hold) a copy with the library staff!

  • Muscatine Head Start Opportunity – Head Start works with children 0-5 and their families in a classroom setting. We are a comprehensive program that offers these services to low-income families in a high-quality early childhood center. We are currently looking for classroom substitutes and volunteers. This would be a great opportunity for high school students who are looking for experience in an Early Childhood classroom. Volunteers would be matched with a center at a convenient location to their home/school. This is not a paid position but would offer students experience with children. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. This would be day time hours and may be a great match for a class or summer time. Background checks may be required.  Muscatine Head Start Volunteer Information
