Winter BallSaturday, Jan. 14th at MHS, 9-11 pm. Tickets  on sale in front of Student Services through Jan. 13th. Tickets are $5 each and dress is semi-formal.

MHS Cake AuctionIt’s that time of year for the 27th Annual MHS Cake Auction, Muskie Jam is the theme. Friday, February 10th, Snow date February 11th. Girl/Boy Doubleheader basketball games vs. Bettendorf. Girls game @ 6 pm, Boys game @ 7:30 pm. There will be live cake auctions in the gym, silent auction in the Cafeteria, 50/50 Raffle, Cake and Ice Cream for Sale. Join in the fun! If you would like to bring a cake for the auction, please have cakes to MHS by 4 pm on Feb. 10th.

  • MHS Orchestra night at Boonies on the Avenue – TONIGHT, Jan. 10, 5-9 pm. Come out and get some great food and support the MHS Orchestra program!
  • Girls’ Track and Field will be holding a short informational meeting on Wednesday, Jan 18 at 3:35 in Coach Falk’s room (11-010, old AA-18). Bring a friend for some snacks and info about the upcoming season. Can’t make the meeting? Send Coach Falk an email at josh.falk@mcsdonline.org or stop by his room.
  • FCA Meeting Room Change – We will meet on Wednesday, January 11 back in room 228. There will be pizza!
  • #ReviewsDayTuesday Lincoln’s Last Days by Bill O’Reilly
    In the spring of 1865, President Abraham Lincoln travels through Washington, D.C., after finally winning America’s bloody Civil War. In the midst of celebrations, Lincoln is assassinated at Ford’s Theatre by a famous actor named John Wilkes Booth. What follows is a thrilling chase, ending with a fiery shoot-out and swift justice for the perpetrators. Checkout (or hold) a copy with the library staff!
  • Model UN – There will be a meeting on Tuesday, January 10th at noon in room 11-024 for students attending the Chicago conference. We will hand out background guides and committee assignments.

  • MHS Baseball Open Gym – If you are considering playing baseball this summer, baseball open gym will begin Sunday, February 12th from 6-8pm in the MHS Gym.
  • WQAD 2017 My Favorite Teacher Contest – Deadline: Feb. 6, 2017 @ 5 pm. See attachment for details and application. WQAD My Favorite Teacher Contest
  • New Silver Cord Opportunity – see Silver Cord section below (Grant Carnival & Show Choir Invitational).
  • Environmental Club Meeting – The Environmental Club will be meeting Friday, January 13, in room 12-005 (Mrs. Baillie’s room #12-005) during lunch. Newcomers welcome, bring a lunch and join us!  Let’s make a difference!!!
  • Component Recovery – Students – Please check PowerSchool to see if you have Component Recovery.  If you raise a failing grade to a passing grade by Friday, Jan. 20, you will recover the credit for that class and you will not have to retake that class (if a required class or prerequisite to another class) or a replacement class (elective) with same number of credits prior to graduating.
  • Reminder – Student Council will be opening its doors to new members in February.  Stay tuned for applications! 

** Silver Cord Opportunities **

  • Grant Elementary is still looking for volunteers to help at the Grant Carnival on Friday, February 24. The carnival is from 5:00-7:00 pm. Volunteers need to arrive at Grant at 4:30 pm for instructions.  Please contact Jaimie Caffery, Grant principal at jaimie.caffery@mcsdonline.org if you are interested.
  • The Show Choir Invitational is coming up on Saturday, January 14, 2017. (There will also be setup help needed on Friday evening, January 13, 2017) There are many areas where we need help. Concessions (selling food items, cleaning tables, preparing food, etc.) and Security ( monitoring halls and the auditorium to help keep things in line) are the biggest need currently. There may be other areas that we need help as the event gets closer. The shifts will be various times according to each area. Please indicate what time of day you will be able to work and which day(s). Please contact Gail Ryan 563-299-8760 or mgryan2@msn.com as soon as you can so we can get you on a committee.
