  • Mr. Armstrong’s freshmen classes will begin swimming Tuesday, January 16, be sure to have proper swimming attire and a towel.
  • Carnival After Prom Extravaganza (CAPE) 2018 is looking for adult volunteers & committee chairs.  The CAPE Committee is in need of a Decoration Committee Chair and a Volunteers Committee Chair.  We are also in need of adult volunteers to help during the CAPE event which following prom on April 21, 2018, at MHS (12 am – 4 am).  If you are interested, please contact Amy Fortenbacher at
  • TONIGHT – 8th Grade Parent Night – Jan. 16 6:30-7:30 pm, MHS Auditorium  8th Grade Parent Night Info
  • TONIGHT – AP Information Night – Jan. 16, 7:30-8:30 pm beginning in the Auditorium.  This meeting is for all MHS parents and students who would like to know more about the different AP courses that are offered at the high school. Additionally, AP teachers will attend the event so this will give parents and students the chance to talk one-on-one with AP teachers about curriculum, class expectations, the AP test, and other course information. Even if your son or daughter has already taken an AP course, this is a good opportunity for you to plan which course(s) your child will take during following years.  Parents have found this to be a very beneficial event to attend – we hope to see many of your next Tuesday night!

  • 2018 Humane Society Apple Fundraiser: Orders will be taken until Feb. 5, 2018.  Apple Order form
  • St. Ambrose University Teacher Education Open House
    For interested high school students and parents. Saturday, February 17, 2018, from 8:30-1:30 at St. Ambrose University Rogalski Center Ballroom. For more information and the itinerary:

  • Yearbook Orders: The last day for yearbook orders is February 12th. Order yours today at the Attendance Center – $56.
  • The Boys’ Swim Meet on Jan. 11 has been rescheduled to Jan. 16 at Bettendorf. 6 pm start.
  • Bus 17-5 will be 17-2 until further notice.
  • Juniors and Seniors: Would you like visit Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids? We are taking students on Tuesday, January 23rd. We will be leaving school at 8:30 AM and returning around 2:30 PM. Lunch will be provided. You must be passing all classes. Please email by 1/18/18 if you would like to attend (first come, first served basis).

  • Poetry Club: Join us for the first ever meeting of the new Poetry Club at MHS, the Free Expression Society, Thursday, January 11 after school in Mrs. Walker’s room 21-024.
    Feel free to bring a poem you love or one you’ve written to share!
  • Seniors and Senior Parents: FAFSA Completion Night will be on Monday, January 22, 2018, from 1:30-7:00 pm. Appointments will be 30 minutes long starting at 1:30.  To schedule an appointment call the Student Services Office or email or
  • Bowls of Hunger – January 26 during the Girls’/Boys’ bb doubleheader vs. Dav North
    • 5:30 to 8:00 pm (or until soup is gone) in MHS Commons
    • $5 for 2 bowls of soup, bread, and a dessert
    • All proceeds will be donated to MCSA (sponsored by MHS Student Council)
  • MHS Cake Auction: Feb, 2 @ 6 pm – Dreaming of Summer Fun theme Cake Auction Information

  •  K-POP Club meets on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30 in Rm 11-023  K-Pop Club Info
  • Black Hawk College Health Career Pathway Program for 9th-12th graders:
    Spend two Saturday mornings getting hands-on experience and interacting with BHC health sciences instructors and investigating the challenges and rewards of the following careers: Medical assisting; CNA (certified nursing assistant); Surgical technician; RN (registered nurse); EMT (emergency medical technician); and Physical therapy assistant.
    Dates and times: 2 Saturdays- January 27 and February 3 from 8:30 am-12:30 pm
    Location: Health Sciences Center Black Hawk College Quad-Cities Campus.  Fee: $99
    Registration form can be picked up in Student Services Office (online registration is NOT an option)  Deadlines: Registration ends Wednesday, January 24
  • Winter Thaw Dance: January 20th from 9-11 pm in the Cafeteria. $5 at the door.

** Silver Cord Opportunities **


  • Juntos is in the process of organizing a Juntos series at the high school. We are looking for two students interested in earning Silver Cord or volunteer hours to provide child care for the following dates: February 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and March 1st from 5:30 – 8:00 pm.
    A meal will be provided. Students who are interested can email Jennifer Zamora at


  • MCSD Food Service is looking for students who would be willing to volunteer at various elementary buildings to get the students through the breakfast line. Times would be 7:40-8:05 daily. Please email Alisha Eggers at if you are interested in volunteering.
