Go Muskies!

  • We are still in need of volunteers to help with C.A.P.E. (Carnival After Prom Extravaganza) this Saturday, May 2nd.   Volunteers would need to be at the school from 11:30pm–3:30am.  If interested, please contact Becky Wichers at becky.wichers@mcsdonline.org  or ph # 263-7005.
  • 2-Hour Early Out – Wednesday, April 29 for Teacher Development.
  • Mr. Armstrong’s freshmen classes will meet in Room 222 TuesdayApril 28.
  • Any high school boy interested in playing baseball, tryouts will be on May 4th at Tom Bruner Field. All 9th and 10th grade boys will tryout at 6:00pm. All 11th and 12th grade boy will tryout at 7:30pmIf you can’t make your allotted time slot, please contact coach Edwin Colón at edwin.colon@mcsdonline.org or 563-263-0411.
  • Girls’ Basketball: Open gym this week will only be held on Monday from 6:30-8:00pm in the main gym. There will be no open gym on Thursday night. This is a change from our original schedule.
  • FFA Plant Sale starts Thursday, April 30 in the MHS Greenhouse. Get all of your flowers and vegetable plants while supporting our FFA.  For detailed information, please view the following link:  FFA Plant Sale

  • MUSKIE MERCHANDISE SALE – Come get your Muskie gear at HALF PRICE during the MHS Track meet on Monday, April 27th 5pm until 7pm. The Muskie Booster club will be having a half price merchandise sale and you can take advantage of some great deals.  $15 Sweatshirts and $7 T-Shirts. Ladies V Neck Tees $10, plus much more.   Stop by the Sale tables and pick up your great deals. 
  • Giles Joslyn Memorial STRINGFEST 2015 – Friday, May 1, 2015, 7PM – MHS Auditorium.  Join us for a wonderful concert that will feature string players from around the Muscatine area. Admission: Adults $7, Students $5.  Tickets sold at the door.  All proceeds will go towards scholarships for private music instruction, instrument repairs, and purchase of new instruments.
  • All varsity volleyball players for the upcoming season, please stop by the Athletic Department Office and pick up 2015 summer volleyball camp information — it will be handed out during open gym time on Mondays as well.  There will be three forms needed to be filled out and returned to Coach Martin – Coe College, Loras College and our own Muskie Team Camp.  The Muskie Team Camp is being presented by Pacesetter and these forms need to be turned in prior to May 15thfor a discounted price –our Volleyball Boosters will take off an additional $20 by way of a voucher that Coach Martin has.  Please try to get this done ASAP so that registrations can be mailed in and rosters filled out.  Any questions, please contact Coach Martin.
  • MHS Show Choirs Fundraiser – Boonies on the Avenue – Tuesday, April 28th and May 12th.   10% of total sales from 5pm-close will be generously donated to the MHS Show Choir program.  The money raised will allow us the additional funding needed for the various expenses incurred during our show choir season and to help our program grow.  We hope to see you there!
  • Boys Basketball Players:  Anyone that is interested in playing basketball next year, there will be an informational meeting Monday, April 27 at 6:30PM in the Stan Howe Commons.  Off season work will be discussed and calendars and registration forms will be passed out.   If you cannot make this time, please see Coach Welsch in Student Services. 
  • Juniors & Seniors: CAPE tickets are available Tuesday, April 21 through May 1 during lunch by the Commons. CAPE tickets are FREE, however, a waiver needs to be signed. For those that are not familiar with CAPE, it is an event that takes place after Prom at MHS from 12-4Am with games, activities, prizes and food — all FREE!
  • Juniors & Seniors: Prom tickets are on sale Tuesday, April 21 through May 1 before and after school in Mrs. Bobay’s Room – 205A and during lunch by the Commons and on the 2nd Floor of the New Wing.  Tickets are $20 each. 
  • Location Change – Girls Golf:
    May 7 – MHS Girls Golf vs. Dav. North will be at Muscatine Muni (3:15 start time).
  • Rescheduled Tennis Events:
    April 9/April 13 – MHS Boys Tennis vs. Burlington has been rescheduled for April 27 at Muscatine High School (4 p.m. start time). April 9 – MHS Girls Tennis vs. Burlington has been rescheduled for May 7 at Burlington (4 p.m. start time)
  • Rescheduled Girls Soccer Event:
    MHS Girls Soccer vs. Ft. Madison originally scheduled for Thurs., May 7 has been changed to Fri., May 8th. The varsity game will start at 5:00 p.m. at the Muscatine Soccer Complex (the JV game has been cancelled).

** Scholarship Information **

  • Quad Cities Illini Club Scholarship – $500 scholarship is available to a student from the Quad City area who begins at the University of Illinois in Fall of 2015. The 2015 scholarship is open to any graduating senior or community college student who will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Fall of 2015.  All applicants will be evaluated on the basis of need, community service, academic success, an message and other criteria. Due date is May 15, 2015.   Quad Cities Illini Club Scholarship  University of Illinois Alumni Application
  • First District American Legion Glenwood Long Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior who is a member, son, daughter, grandchild, brother, or sister to an American Legion or Auxiliary member.  The application is available in MHS Student Services. Due date is May 1, 2015.
  • Children’s Cancer Connection: Scholarship values range from $500-$5,000. Applicant must be directly affected by childhood cancer and must plan to attend a 2 or 4 year university.  Application and other information are available in MHS Student Services.  Due date is May 29, 2015.
  •  Nursing Schools Almanac Scholarship:  Nursing Schools Almanac is proud to announce our inaugural Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. We will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:

    Competition eligibility: This scholarship competition is open to all US high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.
    Applicants must be in good academic standing and on track to graduate from high school at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. Only one application entry is accepted per student.

    Important dates:
    June 30, 2015: Submission deadline for scholarship applications is 11:59pm PT.
    July 2015: Scholarship committee will meet to review all applications received.
    August 2015: Winner will be notified and $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

  • KWQC Broadcast Scholarship: (2) $1,000 scholarship awards are available to students who are accepted to a college and planning to enroll in broadcasting classes. Students must also reside in the KWQC viewing area.  Applications are available in MHS Student Services with a postmark due date of May 8, 2015.
  • Iowa Section PGA–Charlie Burkart Scholarship: $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year for 4 years). Application is available in MHS Student Services.  Due Date is 6/12/2015.
  • ACACIA Leadership Scholarship for University of Iowa: Up to $2,000 scholarship available to any male high school graduate entering University of Iowa. Should show excellence in academics, extra curricular activities, and community involvement. Application is available in MHS Student Services. Due Date is 4/30/2015.
