  • Congrats to the Muskie girls’ varsity cross country team for their victory at Saturday’s Clinton Invitational, the first time we have won this meet in school history.
  • Aquarium Club – Those who’ve expressed an interest in Aquarium Club are invited to join
    Mr. Johnson’s Google Classroom, so we may begin planning feeding schedules, finishing the office saltwater aquarium, and deciding our spring trip venue. The classroom code is: bwca4
  • The 6th Annual Muskie Marching Invitational will be held this Saturday, Oct. 8, from 5:30-10 pm at the High School. The Mighty Muskie Marching Band starts off the event with the National Anthem and wrap up the event by performing their fall show “Swan Lake” by Tchaikovsky. Seventeen area high school marching bands will then vie for awards. The public is invited to attend. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students K-12; under 5 free.
  • Model UN: Paper Night is tonight (Mon, Oct 3) from 6:30-8:30pm in Ms. Hansen’s room (11-024). If you plan to attend the Des Moines Conference, you need to come and work on your position paper with your committee.
  • FCA: We will meet over the lunch hour on Wednesday, October 5th in room 11-037 (first floor, new wing). Wednesday evening will also be our Kickoff Bags Tournament at Coach Orvis’ house. Arrive as early as 6:00 pm. The tourney will begin around 6:30pm.
  • Girls’ Basketball: Open gym this week is Monday and Thursday from 5:45-7:15pm in the main gym.
  • Class of 2017 – Do you need help completing your college applications? On October 5th, bring your lunch and your laptop to the Student Services Conference Room during Enrichment to get assistance from MHS Counselors and staff.

  • Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards – Students must be in grades 9-12. Deadline to submit entries to local VFW Auxiliary is March 31, 2017.   • VFW Voice of Democracy Essay Competition – 2016-17 Theme – “My Responsibility To America”. Student entry Deadline: Nov. 1, 2016.

  • Student IDs & pictures, if purchased, can be picked up at the Attendance Center if you had your picture taken on Sept. 6th.

  • Colorado School PTO is looking for volunteers for their Fall Festival on October 7th.  20 volunteers are needed to help with games and activities from 4:40 – 8:30 pm. If interested, please email Jill Meineke at jill.meineke@gmail.com or text at 563-260-1893.
  • Grant Elementary – Mrs. Lawrence is looking for students to assist students with reading in her 1st-grade class from 12:00-1:00 every day. If interested, please contact Mrs. Lawrence at michelle.lawrence@mcsdonline.org
  • Grant Elementary is looking for volunteers for the Grant School Family Reading/Tailgating Night on Friday, October 14 from 4:30-7:00 pm in the Grant School Parking Lot.  Help is needed with Face Painting for the Muskie football game or to help serving food or cleaning up. If interested, please contact Gina Schliesman at gina.schliesman@mcsdonline.org
  • Jefferson Elementary is looking for volunteers for their Clifford the Big Red Dog Family Reading Night on Thursday, October 13th from 3-5pm. Students would run the book walk and/or craft station. Please contact Stephanie Zillig at stephanie.zillig@mcsdonline.org if interested.
  • Jefferson Elementary is looking for volunteers for their Build It Family Night with the Bettendorf Family Museum on Wednesday, October 19th from 5-7pm. Students would volunteer at a station to build with legos, kinex, or another material. Please contact Stephanie Zillig at stephanie.zillig@mcsdonline.org if interested.

The Elks Most Valuable Student (MVS) Scholarship. Deadline: November 30, 2016. Applications available online at enf.elks.org/mvs   Must apply online, no paper applications.

There are 500 scholarships available to high school seniors nationally:
500 Four-year awards
Two $50,000 scholarships ($12,500 per year)
Two $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 per year)
Two $30,000 scholarships ($7,500 per year)
Fourteen $20,000 scholarships ($5,000 per year)
480 – $4,000 scholarships ($1,000 per year)
Eligibility to apply: US citizen, High school senior
