Go Muskies!

• Come join us for SOAP! We will be meeting on Thursday, March 5 at 2702 Surrey Court from 7:30-9:00PM.
• TONIGHT, Thursday, March 5th, the MHS Band and Orchestras will be presenting their Pops Concert! The concert begins at 7:00pm at MHS Auditorium and will feature the 10-12 String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. There is a 3 dollars admission but the concert is free for students! The program will include works that range from American fiddle tunes, Russian symphonic masterworks and Pirates of the Caribbean! Come out and support your MHS Band and Orchestra programs!
• MHS Boys Soccer- There will be a soccer meeting in the Commons on Monday, March 9th from 3:30-4:oo PM for anyone interested in playing soccer.  If you have any questions, please contact Coach Varela.
• MHS Annual Arc Welding Contest – Saturday, March 28th. Sign-up in Room 159B.  Contest is open to any student who has taken Welding at MHS.
• New Scholarship information has been added – see Scholarship section below.
• The Winter Concert featuring the MHS Symphonic Band and Central Middle School bands originally scheduled for March 3 has been rescheduled for Friday, March 6 @ 7:00 PM.  The concert begins at 7:00 PM in the MHS Auditorium. There is no admission charge, but we will graciously accept any donations. The program will include works that range from pop music to classic movie tunes! Come and support your music programs!
• Orders are now being taken for the new Muskie Strength T-Shirts. Please see Coach Hawkins or Mrs. Hawkins by Friday, March 6th to place your order. 2015 Muskie Strength T-2
• PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES will be held:
  March 9th (Monday) – 4:00 – 7:30 PM
  March 11th (Wednesday) – 4:00 – 7:30 PM
  March 12th (Thursday) – 1:45 – 3:45 PM
  All conferences will be walk-in held in the teacher room.
• Information Session for Prospective College Athletes
  – Monday night, March 9th in conjunction with Parent/Teacher Conferences
  – 6pm-7:30pm MHS Commons
  
  – Topics covered will include information on:
  athletic scholarships, different levels of competition, recruiting, NCAA Clearinghouse, college selection, and many other related topics
  -The MHS Counseling staff will be presenting the information
  -Any coaches, parents, or students interested in these topics are encouraged to attend.
• 2015 AP Testing Information – AP Tests can be ordered in the MHS Student Services Office through Wednesday, March 25th. Please see the attached document (Ap Testing) for specific tests, testing dates, and cost.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Hawkins.

• MHS Muskie Baseball Under Armour apparel is now available for purchase. There seemed to be technical issues when placing orders on the Muskie Baseball on-line store. • Graduation Announcements will be distributed on Tuesday, March 10th during lunch.  Please call 1-800-JOSTENS to pay by credit card or debit card by this date.  Cash and Money Orders are the only forms of payment accepted at school on this day.  Your account must be paid in full in order to pick up your items at school on Delivery Day.

• Student Athletes – If you are interested in participating in a spring sport at MHS, now is the time to turn in the needed paperwork! Please stop by the A.D. Office at your earliest convenience to make sure you are ready to practice when the season begins.

** Scholarship Information **

• The 2015 Golf Association Foundation Ann Griffel and Herman Sani Scholarship applications are now available.  Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and leadership qualities. Completed applications (Griffel & Sani) must be received by Friday, March 13, 2015.
  
  ANN GRIFFEL SCHOLARSHIP

  HERMAN SANI SCHOLARSHIP
  Any graduating high school senior and resident of the State of Iowa with experience or background in golf is eligible to apply. • Trinity Muscatine Friends Scholarship:  There are 3 categories for applicants, each is for $1,000: 1) High School seniors with any major 2) High School Seniors who are dependents of Trinity Muscatine employees–any major 3) Any prior graduate who is studying a health care related field.  Applications are available in MHS Student Services, Trinity Muscatine Friends Window Box Gift Shop and Main Lobby/Front Desk.
• Golf Scholarship opportunity:
  The Tony Robison Memorial Golf Membership Scholarship is open to all students in grades 8-12. One male and female will be selected. The main criteria is the desire to play golf: not based on grades or financial need. The award is a one year junior golf membership at Geneva Golf and Country Club. Athletic eligibility is not affected. Once awarded, if selected individuals do not use it, it will be re-awarded to another individual. Deadline to apply is April 3, 2015. Applications are available at West Middle School, Central Middle School, Muscatine High School Athletic Office.
• Seniors: Local Scholarship Application Form (see link below). This is a tremendous opportunity for our students to have access to scholarships for their future path.  Please view the link below for the Local Scholarship Application Form. • Attention Seniors planning to attend Muscatine Community College in the Fall: The MCC Foundation Scholarship Application is due March 1st, 2015 (this is a change from years past).  They will be awarding over $300,000 is scholarship money!!  The application is available in MHS Student Services or at www.eicc.edu.
• Applications for the Pilot Club Scholarship in memory of Elsa Bain, Nancy Bauer and other members is available in the Student Service Office  This is a $500.00 scholarship.  Applicants need to be enrolling at Muscatine Community College for the 2015-2016 school year. Deadline is March 6th.

•  ACACIA Leadership Scholarship for Iowa State University:  $1,000 scholarship available to any male high school graduate entering Iowa State University. Should show excellence in academics, extra curricular activities, and community involvement. Application is available in MHS Student Services.  Due Date is 3/16/2015

• QC Auto Service and Muscatine Tire and Auto Center: $1,000 and $500 scholarships.  More information and applications available at www.qcautoservice.com/scholarship.  Due Date is 3/15/2015
• Eastern Iowa Light and Power Cooperative Scholarship: $1,000 and $500 scholarships available to students whose parents or guardians are members of Easter Iowa Light and Power Coop.  Visit www.easterniowa.com for the application packet.  Due Date is 3/13/2015.
• Donald Kiser Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship.  Applicants must plan to pursue studies in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering. Applications are available in MHS Student Services.  Due Date is 3/31/2015
• Edward Bitzer–American Legion Unit 27 Scholarship: $500 scholarship.  Application is available in MHS Student Services.  Due Date is 4/15/2015
• Iowa Section PGA–Charlie Burkart Scholarship: $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year for 4 years). Application is available in MHS Student Services.  Due Date is 6/12/2015
