The Stanley Center for Peace and Security’s Global Education program announced its 2025 Catherine Miller Explorer Award winners this afternoon! They include Danielle Hern, a second-grade teacher at Madison Elementary School-Muscatine; Clay Harland, an Industrial Tech teacher at Muscatine High School; Melissa Shumaker, a sixth-grade teacher; and Sarah King, a fifth-grade teacher at Grant Elementary! Each recipient will receive a study abroad tour to an international destination of their choosing in 2025. This was the first time educators could apply to travel in pairs, as did Ms. Schumaker and Mrs. King. The award is named after Catherine Miller, a longtime Muscatine educator who was an avid traveler and always sought to expand her students’ understanding of the world. This is the 20th anniversary of the program, and 44 teachers have received the award. Thank you to the Stanley Center for their continued support of our teachers!
